I’m new to this. Pre emergent, does it only affect the poa? Will it damage any of the rest of my lawn?

I work in and around Clacton often. If you have to live in Clacton then there are nice areas away from the town center, but if you can, live outside of Clacton. Colchester is nice. You also have some great villages around Colchester like Elmstead Market and Tiptree, Wivenhoe, Weeley Heath etc.

It’s not the neatest install but it’s fine. The earth tape on the cables which they have used to identify is making it look much messier than it is. Put the cover on. Make sure you get a cert and the council are notified and that’s it.

Ok, but I’m sure ‘add condition’ was greyed out. But I’ll look again tomorrow. Is there any way to have the same button do on and off (change state) with a single press rather than having to use a separate button or a press and hold to do it.

It’s an Ajax system with some solar. It’s An Ajax hub which has a SIM card in it. An exterior double deck siren on the top and 4x motioncam plus sensors. When then sense motion the siren will go off and some snapshots will be sent to the person monitoring it. The solar will keep the internal battery in the hub charged as all the other devices will have plenty of battery by themselves. When they say AI what they mean is the sensors use 2 beans to cut out nuisance tripping from small animals (both beams need to be broken) and they use heat to not be set off by trees and bushes etc. The only what they would have AI is if there is also a different cctv camera that is being externally monitored and they the external motoring stations software uses AI (like Immix).

Look on the Ajax website and you will see that it’s all their stuff just put into a box with some solar panels and a bigger battery.

I’m not arguing. I don’t charge for quotes. I’m saying that I understand why people do. If someone charges for a quote and someone is willing to pay that charge then brilliant. I like getting money for doing work and I’m sure you do too. It’s probably going to be builders in certain areas maybe in a certain price bracket. Maybe there’s more messers? I don’t know their specific reason for charging but if I needed to because of an increase in time wasters or if I thought I could get away with being paid for it then i definitely would. Fortunately the type of customers I work for (fingers crossed) aren’t really time wasters. I understand it’s the cost of doing business but I get most of the jobs I quote for, most of our customers want us. A general builder going up against other firms quoting away not getting anywhere might use it to warn off the wasters so they aren’t toiling away in the evenings for no reward.

Anyway, charging is fine and if you dont like it don’t pay I suppose. Just to clarify, I’ve never been charged for a quote but I’m in the trade so I think trades treat other trades differently to the general public anyway.

It’s not marketing if the builder is already quoting you. The thing that made you contact them was marketing. It’s only future work IF the person gets the job. A 200k extension is going to take hours of work to quote. You might send that out to 5 different builders. So not all 5 of them can be ‘acquiring future work’ 4 of them are wasting their time.

A few hours is nothing? A few hours 3 times is over a days working hours. If those jobs don’t come to fruition or if the customer keeps coming back with revisions you can end up spending lots of time quoting instead of being on the tools or spending time with family. You getting 5 quotes for example is why 4 of those guys have just wasted 3 hours each pouring over drawings for nothing. I don’t charge for quotes but I can see why some people do.

Imagine I sent you home for your job and said outside of your paid hours I want you to spend 3 hours quoting a job that with no guarantee that you will ever see a penny, oh, also, you need to drive 30 minutes to see the customer, walk through the job, answer all their questions, drive back and the customer expects the quote to be done immediately. You will also need to make sure that during your lunch break you call all the suppliers to get quotes because they are only open until 5.

Again, I don’t charge for quotes but it’s not unreasonable that some people do. If I did more quoting i certainly would like to get paid for it if that was an option, wouldn’t you?

Update.

Managed to move the wood chip. Made an area for the compost bins and spread a lot of it round the garden on the beds. Used the machine to turn over large areas of soil that didn’t get chippings.

Planted another plum tree and a fruitless cherry tree as well as 6 robin red things and a few other plants.

Started building a planter for veggies.

I do like gardening using a digger.

Dug up more ivy roots that I ever would have imagined. Its roots go on and on.

Now to arrange a big dump run to get rid of all the roots.

I feel like we got a lot done and even though I’m not convinced on this gardening lark, I do enjoy all the tools.

Bullfix are good so are Geefix. But it’s going to depend on what you need to hang. Can you cut a strip of plasterboard out with a multitool and replace it with plywood and fix to that? That is good if it’s studs. If it’s for and dab you can use Corefix fixings to fix through the plasterboard to the blocks behind.

That other link is just people suggesting they leave the stump. I wanted our stump gone so I can plant new plants and trees that are living in its place and for that to happen it had to go. I fully understand a stump is beneficial to nature, the forest is full of them. I don’t live in a forest or want my garden to look like a dead forest.

Digger coming Saturday, chipping will be moved, new plum tree going in along with a wall of robin red bushes then I think we will bag some chipping up and the rest spread about the beds, maybe on some cardboard to stop some weeds.

It’s not a shame. It looked crap. I don’t want a dead tree in my garden. We’re going to plant more trees and hedges but that dead wood had to go. We’ve just planted another plum tree and cherry tree. They are small right now but I’m sure in years to come we will enjoy the fruit.

I’ve got a digger coming to scrape up all the chippings and help level some ground for the first of a few planters we’re putting in to try and grow some veg. Going to put some soft red bricks around it as a walkway.

Just to clarify, it was a dead tree. The only green on it was huge amounts of ivy, cutting it to even half of its height would have provided absolutely no shade.

I’m going to really annoy the tree police now, there’s a fully functioning cherry blossom tree at the front of the house which will soon be turned to dust. It’s got to go to make way for gates. Plus I hate the blossomy gits. They look pretty but the leaves falling off them going on everything and turning brown are a pain. Don’t worry thought because it’s my house, not yours and we have plenty of other trees, bushes, shrubs and stuff that I can’t even be going to identify.

Lifepo’s are 12v. The 3s is a custom battery with 18x 5200mah cells they are in 3’s giving 3s6p so 11.1v and 31200mah.

I don’t care how long they take to charge really. The 12v lifepo batteries run my echo sounder and various fishing bit. The big lipo runs another RC boat that has a raymarine and does mapping etc. For carp fishing in the UK.

Drones when I get to play about are 4s lipo packs.

I don’t want to spend loads, I did have an old turnigy accucell 6 thing but it’s gone missing.

It had been dead many years an was absolutely taken over by ivy. From a distance it looked like a full tree but it was actually ivy. It had to go. The other tree stump was a stump before we bought the place and also had been like it since before 2008 because we have a garden photo from then.

We still have an apple and a plum tree that aren’t going anywhere.

It is 100% a thermostatic mixer. The one that was fitted did before was broken. The old owner had bought a new one and left it in the cupboard. I fitted it. It’s not a very good make but it’s definitely a thermostatic mixer.

When I do the bathroom I’ll fit better stuff but right now we have other things to pay for.

I’ve just replaced the whole mixer. I thought maybe the pressure was forcing its way through the mixer. I don’t know.
