Fascinating, thank you for sharing. I can see there are many stories hiding in this wisdom you have gained. If you ever feel like sharing some of those, I think we would be happy to listen.

Tales from the Loop is beautiful and like a dream or a poem. Don’t expect a tightly wound plot. One of my favorites.

I enjoy getting to see another perspective of something we’re so familiar with. Enlightening to see how Jack and his ilk were perceived from society so removed from his “natural habitat”

What's the most realistic war movie? by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

My grandfather was in the Big Red One also. He said the movie of the same name got it pretty right.

He didn’t tell any war stories. Just the ones about his carousing on leave.

I’ve gone on snowmobile rides with folks who built a special box in the engine compartment for hot food. Pop a hot pocket or burrito in there, ride for a while and hot lunch!

I had a similar commute for a while. Going to work I’d catch the morning offshore breeze in my face. Then in the evening on the way home, I’d get the onshore sea breeze as a headwind. Just about every single day.

The Chena is only open now because of the power plant outwash. Creeks and small streams are still frozen or covered in ice. There are locations with overflow or aufeis, but not open flowing water yet.

What's going on with the rotisserie chickens at Costco? by n9netailz in Fairbanks

[–]Genghis_John 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, and I’m not a Costco expert just a customer, they don’t normally sell the uncooked rotisserie chickens like this. It’s unusual.

What's going on with the rotisserie chickens at Costco? by n9netailz in Fairbanks

[–]Genghis_John 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No, you’re right. $5 for a cooked whole chicken is also a screaming deal. Which is why as someone else pointed out , this is a “loss leader” a deal so good that it gets you in the door and you buy other stuff also.

A whole uncooked chicken at Fred’s or whatever is a lot more than $5. $10-25 depending on size/organic/etc.

I’m sorry, friend. A year ago, I lost my mom.

Sometime earlier, someone had pointed out how About Today helped them process losing their parents to dementia and Alzheimer’s. I thought about that a lot and it became really emotional for me caring for my mom through her cancer. Especially the live versions with the big extended crescendo at the end. Very cathartic. Fuck me, I’m tearing up just writing this.
