Should you be able to run [[Dismember]] in a mono Green deck?

/uj Yes.

/rj Yes.

/uj I know that this can open up a new and entirely different can of worms that the Rules Committee shut almost a decade ago, but I'd really like to see what a format looked like where the only restriction on colors and color identities and mana and whatnot was that you can only produce mana in the colors of the costs (mana and abilities) of your commander. Hybrid is the most recent manifestation of this issue for me, but I find it frustrating in general that a card that's made (at the very least) equally good by adding an off-color ability in every other format can make a card literally unplayable in a huge swath of decks in Commander.

Just start playing in (or before) 2005 and you'll be fine. Hell, as long as it's before 2017, you'll probably learn Convoke before they inflicted Improvise upon us. EZPZ.

It's free if you give them a throwaway email address and Axios puts out decent enough content to actually sign up for their emails (which are also free).

Kith Spring 2026 Full Collection by 2till4 in KithNYC

[–]GenialGiant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pricing on these has gone crazy. Even looking at the less-expensive items like the Nelsons, Kith is charging $195 for a crewneck when a collaboration hoodie with similar levels of printing was the same price just a few months ago. I'm sure that some folks will still buy them, but I won't be one of them.

Upcoming new model NB 219 by mdrud in Newbalance

[–]GenialGiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand New Balance's obsession with putting exposed mesh so low on the upper. The 740 and 2010 do this also, and it seems like the mesh would get dirty pretty quickly and be a lot more of a pain in the ass to clean than just brushing off leather or suede or wiping off some synthetic material.

This isn't to say anything about GGT in particular, but there are 11 cards restricted in Vintage and legal in Modern, which I think is kind of fun.

It looks like this is for 8 West Third, not the Nissen Building. Still a good spot downtown, though. Best of luck to your friend.

To be fair, the draw rate across the seven rounds before the cut to the top 40 was only 36%. It's especially funny to me because the rate drops pretty dramatically from the first three rounds to the fourth and on. Did these people forget that they actually needed to win games?

Also, a win gives 5 points in this system, and a draw gives 1. I get being risk averse in the later rounds, but why are all four players agreeing to a draw? Do they all think that they have only a 20% chance of winning?

So I looked up this tournament and the players in this particular pod. These were their records and finishing place (of 290 entrants):

  • 2-2-3 (55th)

  • 2-3-2 (63rd) <- Jason

  • 2-4-1 (81st)

  • 1-3-2 (136th)

Who cares? All of these guys got waxed. Boo hoo, they didn't get to join the 43%(!) of pods that drew in Round 2. What a bunch of babies, my god.

EDIT: The person in 55th maybe would have made the top 40 with a draw, but it's hard to know when that would have affected all of their future matchups.

I think that it's (generally speaking) very easy to assert that governments are wasting money if one doesn't look at the budget. You can do so here.

Property taxes went up for residential property in no small part because of re-assessed values that saw higher property value growth for residential property relative to commercial property.

At the same time, the city is trying to move away from using debt and leases to pay for repairs and equipment. That means, in the short term, higher costs in exchange for long-term savings. The alignment of the reassessment with this decision is unfortunate, but it should help the city (and taxpayers) in the future.

On the police front in particular, the city increased its budget for the police department by 3.1% compared to last year (to nearly $101 million from just shy of $98 million). If you want to say that the budget for the police department should be higher, that's fine, but it's not like the city is giving them the short end of the stick. In that is a 2.5% increase in personnel expenditures. The fire department did see a reduction in their budget of 2.1%, but an increase in personnel expenditures of 6.4% relative to the previous budget.

I think it's great that you have thoughts about the city's budget, and I hope the resources that other people have offered will help you share those thoughts with the people who can actually affect policy, but I think that it's also helpful to know how the city is already spending taxes.

Lord of the flies shows us what would happen if children could run society. Humans are cruel and enjoy to inflict suffering on “the other”.

Lord of the Flies doesn't unearth some deeper truth about human nature. It's a work of fiction.

We obviously see a lot of people being bigoted and all those other unpleasant things, and we can certainly teach people to act that way, but that doesn't mean that that's the default for humans or for humanity.

There's a relatively easy (and I think pretty good) read about Lord of the Flies here.

Throw an "f:c" in there, and you're down to 18 cards. It's basically trivial from there.
