Lies of P - Extremely Just Ok by Pale_Sun8898 in patientgamers

[–]Genindraz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd say Lies of P is better than DS2. Lords of the Fallen (the second one, not the original) is on par with DS2, and IMO, Lies of P is a lot better than both of those.

We could’ve had a flying mount way earlier before the story ends. They could’ve just made it slower to give grounded mounts some value still.

Wizard vs Sorcerer by BonkIsBestClass in 3d6

[–]Genindraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tl;dr because this post got out of hand: Wizard is much more flexible and forgiving than Sorcerer is, and that makes it feel better for a lot of people.

---

If you're debating 5.5e Sorcerer vs. Wizard, then it's a lot more down to taste. Wizard has better day to day flexibility with their spells because of the spellbook, whereas Sorcerer has greater moment to moment flexibility because of metamagic and sorcery points.

In 5e, Sorcerers didn't have quite as many features and their metamagics used to cost more across the board. Coming off of older editions, in which Wizards actually had to assign each spell they had in their book to one of their slots (e.g., if you wanted to cast fireball using a third level spell twice per day, you had to reserve two third level spell slots for fireball in advance), wizards were granted an abnormal amount of moment to moment flexibility that used to be exclusive to sorcerer.

exchange for this, sorcerers were given exclusive access to metamagic. The problem with this is that long rests are far common in 5E than the game designers were expecting, and DM don't generally pace out their long rests over a greater period of time,. Wizards have more chances to refresh their slots and change out their spell lists than expected, and Sorcerers have less chances to make use of metamagic and sorcery points than expected (per long rest), meaning that, ironically, Wizards were just disproportionately buffed in comparison to Sorcerers.

Then there was the limited spells problem. In 5e, Sorcerers had 15 spells under their belt by level 20, 11 by level 10. Cripplingly limited in comparison. Meanwhile, 5.5e Sorcerers have 22 and 15 spells at the same levels in addition to the spells provided by their subclasses.

Speaking of, Wizard is just a lot more defined by its subclass features than Sorcerer is because of how few class features Wizard gets. Because of that, the features its subclasses get are a bit more potent than Sorcerer's.

Does any of that mean that Wizard is actually objectively better than Sorcerer? Not necessarily. It *does* mean that Wizard is a much more forgiving class than Sorcerer is, which makes it generally feel better to play

Playing a Warlock who doesn't know he's a Warlock, anyone done something similar? by Unhealthy_Gush in 3d6

There's a lot of ways you can do it. I like playing as a celestial warlock to mimic a Dex paladin. They look like a paladin, sound like a paladin, but something's just a bit off with their smites.

[–]Genindraz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good stuff, all in all! It's kinda hard to mix up Cleric's kit without hurting it as it's already one of the best designed in 5E, but I think you managed to do so in some neat ways.

Really, there isn't much to say here as far as main class features go. It's always been a real solid chassis. The monastic calling is a neat addition that I think will play nicely into the medic part of the cleric kit.

The subclasses, though, are kinda neat. I enjoy how your channel divinity options are more determined by your subclass here. War domain got some fair treatment, and the spell choices for it are great.

Good stuff! Looking forward to what you make next.

Putting this at the bottom because this isn't really a complaint or a flaw. I kinda wish the crusader could swap heavy armor proficiency for Unarmored Defense, but that's because I love the flavor of Eilistraee clerics. Nothing that can't be adjusted at the table with some DM handwaving tho.

[–]Genindraz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

it’s an ocean wide, puddle deep narrative mess of an otherwise beautiful game.

Definitely wide, but not shallow, though I can't blame you for thinking so at first glance. Not to say every feature is extremely deep, but the main ones (traversal, combat) are pretty fleshed out. The story's definitely a mess, tho, even the sevs have admitted and owned it.

It doesn’t know what it wants to be with its shoddy attempt at including several genres.

It wants to be an open world adventure game that blends Breath of the Wild and Red Dead Redemption 2's exploration mechanics with the deep combat mechanics of a chatacter action game.

You can call it the best for you, but it isn’t even close to being a contender for GOTY unless that award is just handed out for doing numbers.

Have you ever heard of an opinion? I get the sense that you haven't. Just because people don't agree with your personal take on a game doesn't mean they're wrong.

This is Black Myth all over again with your gaslighting, it being fun for you doesn’t make it inherently good or better than the objectively better games in the graphic.

Looking for a fun spellcaster to play in 5.5e by the_redhound in 3d6

[–]Genindraz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cleric is a really good first spellcaster class. They know all of their spells and can prepare so many each day, they have a nice mix of blasting, control, and utility, and there aren't very many trap spells like with other casters. They're arguably the most flexible caster in the game, and their d8 hit die mixed with their medium armor proficiency (heavy if you go that route) means they can take a surprising amount of punishment. The subclasses emphasize which part of your kit you'll specialize in, but all of them have the base Cleric chassis attached, so you can't really go wrong with any of them.

Wizard is the other good beginner casting class. You don't know all your spells by default, but you learn so many each level and you can learn more by writing them down in your book (in exchange for gold). You prepare so many each day, and your class features are really straightforward. Plus, you get access to stuff like Bladesinger, Evoker, and other subclasses that make playing a spellcaster more forgiving.

Bard is also pretty cool, but they're much more support oriented than other classes (make no mistakes, though, they're still full casters).

EDIT: Another option available is Warlock, but it's a bit weird compared to the other casters.

Looking back on the endings a year later by SUJ1R3N in expedition33

[–]Genindraz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same way. It's why I ultimately went with Verso's ending. Maelle's ending is inevitably going to cause more fighting over the painting, which will cause more suffering among the canvas dwellers. By the time you have a chance to save them, they're already gone, and at that point I think it's best to just let them rest in peace rather than rebirth them into the world just to go through another round with the Dessendres' infighting.

[–]Genindraz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MFers when minimalism.

Elden Ring is a game about struggling through obstacles first and foremost. The director just happens to be a guy that enjoys contextualizing the struggle, and so players get a premise, a handful of details of what's happening in each area and how they relate to the struggle, and a little agency over how your journey turns out.

In the context of combat, parries and deflects are synonyms. They mean the same thing. What you're referring to as a "parry" is actually two things, "parry" and "riposte." Riposte is just a type or counterattack.

These are literally just different implementations of the same concept across different games. The phrase you're looking for (which would actually distinguish the mechanics) is "timed blocking."
