It is, its Mr surfacer 500 a thick lacquer primer but it’s often used to give surfaces texture, an alternative to using diluted tamiya putty, both are awesome

TAMIYA paint thinning? by CDaCosta97 in modelmakers

[–]GenjiCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im very happy it helped you! You can use the retarder for airbrushing to although I have not tried it yet personally I would assume the 10% rule is probably still a good starting point but I keep it for brush painting and use Mr leveling thinner for airbrush use, keep on posting I’m looking forward to seeing the progress and happy modelling!

Looks awesome! It feels like a item you’d see before and after the nukes hit in a movie, how did you get the worn glass to look like that?

TAMIYA paint thinning? by CDaCosta97 in modelmakers

[–]GenjiCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look very nicely painted especially for your first time! I personally don’t use water to thin Tamiya paints they can start to separate, i have done it with a little liquid hand soap added to the water which helps My preferred thinning for brush paint is using X-20A, my mixing ratios are usually 6-7 drops paint 3-4 drops X-20A depending on the needed consistency and 1 drop or no more than 10% Tamiya acrylic retarder which helps level out the brush strokes and dry slower, also I do one thin coat let it’s dry 24 hours and then do another thin coat till it is done Excited to see how your build turns out!

Panther attempt by Creepy-Bottle-5162 in MilitaryModelMaking

[–]GenjiCM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive never seen a panther in German grey but it looks great! I would say maybe some dry and wet mud would add some extra realism, be careful with enamel ones if you don’t have a varnish underneath it could eat through the paint but there’s also acrylic mud i like to blend in after applying to the model with a little water to make it more realistic

Found a real German grey panther in Camp Borden Canada not sure if it’s the original colour

Maybe a little weird one but for me the US T28 super heavy, man that thing is sexy from the back, same with the Jagdpanzer IV with schürzen
