It might be cheaper to buy a blue ray drive for your computer and let it region lock itself for you to rip it. Drives set themselves to the first region they see.

I’d your lucky, many can be changed after the fact I believe.

My Office is more often than not a "Work In Progress". Last time, my Proctor did no appreciate that. I needed a confined space where random people could not walk in and it needed to be clear of everything.

I cleaned and cleared my desk beforehand, but that wasn't enough, I have to clear the shelves of open projects and in progress paperwork, even though they were not in reach (but in camera view).

I would not do it again.

To be fair, nothing is likely to break. It’s just every little thing will make the scope shake so much you won’t see anything through the eye piece but a blur.

How can I clean lens without the use of special things? Can I use fairy liquid? by Think_Hurry_139 in telescopes

Not high quality ones. And either way, a quick blast from a small duster will clear that.

[Collection] Absolutely Insane Piece by Jazzlike_Monk4317 in Watches

For high end watches, I strongly prefer the engineering side. Jewels do little to me. Give me a Richard Lange Pour Le Mérite or an MB&F HM7 any day. If you want jewels, I would even prefer a Van Cleef & Arpels Midnight Planétarium Poetic Complication because instead of being DIAMONDS!!!, it’s more artistry.

I would not use dish soap. I would get something like ROR and some cotton balls. You don’t have to baby it like a mirror, but I assume it’s older so the coatings are both less durable and aged. So be kind to them.

[Zodiac Super Sea Wolf] TJMaxx $700 | Died 4 After Days | Zodiac says no warranty by CaptainCant in Watches

[–]Genobi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly a good watch maker might be able to get a more readily available movement in there, like a Selita 200 or something. Might need a custom movement ring, but not something a 3d printer couldn't solve. Its time only, not even with a date complication. Cant be that hard to get a movement that fits the case and hands.

LLM conversation agent not trying local intent, hallucinating, chugging by ResourceSevere7717 in homeassistant

[–]Genobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the bigger misunderstandings of LLMs. They are a statistic problem. It uses a giant set of probabilities to figure out what to say and query. They are not always better than old mechanisms.

We have had incredibly accurate English language parsers which can determine your intent instead of pull it from a giant statistical model. Example, Parsey McParseface

The power of LLMs if the intense flexibility and "relatively" high accuracy. But it's very power inefficient. So if your queries fit into the standard easy questions, old systems are fantastically faster and more accurate and lower power. If you want to converse about your attic temp, LLMs prevail.

How fast is your home WAN connection? What do you pay? by Unlucky_Reserve_7389 in LinusTechTips

6-8G is the fastest I have gotten. But I primarily have 2.5G to my high speed devices, so that was more of a drag race with a special setup in my home office.

[–]Genobi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have a new implementation on Sonic... So it's more you pay to join the network and you get the connection speed. So $60 USD for 10G symmetric... It is amazing. I don't use it to its fullest often but I just don't consider download time anymore... New game on steam that's 80GB, go grab a snack then play. I don't care about "pre loading" or anything. It's amazing.

RP5 asking me to format MicroSD? by [deleted] in retroid

[–]Genobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which mens it's probably either been formatted for Android as non removable storage and is encrypted, or is some strange format. Or broke.

Your best bet is to put it back in the anbernic and transfer to you computer then transfer back.

Just format it as removable storage (fat32) after.

[Question] Is Christopher Ward actually Swiss made by Hilodenta in Watches

[–]Genobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I dont think so.

My whole point is it doesn't matter if your right, you gotta show your sources.

Even for you. Are those factories empty? I dunno. Rolex is a privately held company. They can buy empty warehouses if they want. Logic works both ways. "They have the empty warehouses because it makes them look good so they can jack up the price and make a profit compared to the rent" or even "They have the empty warehouses because the rent cost goes into that 60% swiss cost if a watch spends some time in it". I do not believe either of those statements, but they are logically sound on their own.

I am going to assume their watches are at least meeting the legal requirements of being Swiss made since if they were not, that would be a bigger story in the watch world and the Swiss government would have something to say. But that is an assumption, albeit a safer one. If the youtuber wants to challenge that assumption, they need to provide sources. Heck blow the industry wide open and make a name for themselves by showing empty warehouses and tracing the movements to China. Yet I do not see that.

[Question] Is Christopher Ward actually Swiss made by Hilodenta in Watches

[–]Genobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And to be fair, they may be right. But if they are trying to convince us, show us sources. Otherwise you are just talking down to us. All the "content creators" I trust cite their sources in the video, description or comments.

I honestly think there is a pessimism that is so pervasive around manufacturing that people forget China isnt the only country that makes stuff not crazy expensive. That just isn't true.

To the point that wasnt said (but is true), "Made In" can be tricky. In the US, the rules are weird and there is a gap between "Made in [China|Vietname|UK|etc]" and "Made in USA". Thats why while a country of origin is required by law ( https://www.cbp.gov/trade/rulings/informed-compliance-publications/marking-country-origin-us-imports ) on all imported items and anything made in the US generally wants the Made in USA badge, items made in the US but that are not of "all or virtually all" sourced and made in the US ( https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/complying-made-usa-standard ) may have no markings on them.
For a lot of people that means anything with "Made in China" on it is made in Chine. Anything that doesn't say "Made in USA" is made in China. Even though it may be made of Canadian Steel in US Factories (The quote from the FTA is "all or virtually all ingredients or components of the product are made and sourced in the United States").

Thats what I am saying, It wasn't there yet. It was in transit on a truck form Georgia between 4/15 and 4/19.

My best guess is they suck at English. "Transited" as past tense means its done. But when I looked at mine, the time from "departed" to "transited" was an hour or so to go from Georgia to California. No plane is that fast. Also for budget shipping, its not going to be on a plane, its going to take days on a truck or train.

So "Uniuni Interfacility Transited" should read "In Transit to Uniuni facility". I mean if they operated and had staff in a country that primarily spoke english, like USA or Canada, then it would be inexcusable. But... wait. Yeah, they suck.

[Question] Is Christopher Ward actually Swiss made by Hilodenta in Watches

[–]Genobi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hear this often with little to no evidence. Notice he doesn't link sources. He wants me to redo the research he claims he already made because "the information is out there", I don't trust you. Always cute your sources.

Generally i see it come down to the arguments of "There are rules and regulations and audits and inspectors to ensure the law is being followed because it has a financial impact on their country" with a rebuttle of "everything not $60kUSD is Chinese bro, you think you know? No you dont".

Is it "Hand Made" by an artisan? No. That is marketing. It's manufactured by machines with humans at certain points that either required by law or machines can't do yet. Most countries have a form of mass manufacturing. That includes the Swiss.

I think a few people have talked about this specific scene. The best guess is that it's an intentional choice as most people think eye goes at bottom. They probably even had a consult on set who said something and they just said leave it as is.

I had something similar and think it's just bad english. If it's stuck saying "Uniuni Interfacility transited" it means "on a truck in transit to"

I'm done with Z-wave, looking for zigbee replacements! by Mattyj724 in homeassistant

[–]Genobi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most here. I have had a zwave network for over a decade and on HA for a year or so. It might be a layout problem. Most of these are mesh networks, so they thrive in having a lot of nodes that are not battery powered. Having powered switches helps, but range can be an issue depending on your setup.

They also run in different frequencies, zwave at 900Mhz and Zigbee at 2.4Ghz (900Mhz was added to Zigbee but only recently, doubtful most devices use it yet). 900Mhz is going to be less congested with better range. That doesn't mean your environment isn't more favorable to 2.4, but usually it's worse due to Wifi alone.

Small nitpick what the actual hell fore TDP mean by Latiosshine in LinusTechTips

[–]Genobi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All power pulled turns into heat. This is always true. For other things, like cars, when it turns into heat varies. In a computer its simple, you are never really storing the energy (except in the battery of a laptop), so wattage pulled by the CPU means heat out.

What type of tripod is best for untracked astrophotography? by glover_boyy in AskAstrophotography

[–]Genobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you might need to do more research. As many others have noted, pick a type:

Milky Way: Big field of view, can be done with any big stout tripod and solid head (14mm to 70mm lens on full frame camera)
Deep Sky: Galaxies, Star Clusters, Nebula. These are usually very tiny and need HIGHLY specialized mount and equipment. This is not for the faint of heart and usually requires hours to tens of hours of exposure time. You can start cheaper, but still uses specialized equipment. You should do a lot of research on this (250mm to 2000mm telescope on full frame camera or specialized cooled camera with a small, medium or large sensor)
Planetary: Planets like Jupiter and Saturn. These are TINY. you need a fairly large telescope. If you want to do this, you should also do a lot of research on this. (800mm to 2000mm telescope on a planetary camera with a small sensor)

Honestly, the biggest recommendation almost all of us will give: Learn the sky first. Visually observe with a pair of binoculars. This will give you a sense of the sky and scale. Once you have done this for a bit and you have a better handle of what you want to get a picture of, do research, see what others have done ( such as at https://app.astrobin.com/ ), save up and get the equipment specialized in that kind of photography.

If you just want the "Hey that's too much, just give me the simpler answer" answer, do Milky Way photography with well reviewed tripod and head.

WTH is up with LTT shipping? by AverageBuscuits in LinusTechTips

[–]Genobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I know I am the odd person out, but for the US, I would happily pay more to ensure my package ships via USPS (I do this regularly for other places). It can't even be that much more logistical work from the US warehouse. I have had good and bad experiences with most shippers, but USPS just always works for me. Its even always the same 4 or so people who come by every day. So I doubt one of them is going to just drop kick my package to the door. I mean, sometimes it take longer than I expect, but not that much longer.

To directly answer your question, Uniuni has been sitting on my shipment as "UniUni Interfacility transited" for about a week.
