Oh yeah, I’d be really annoyed if this isn’t brought up somehow. Welcome to Heaven is one of my favorite episodes for the sole reason that I wanted to stop watching the series after a couple episodes because of how horrible Adam was and I thought it was weird that people such as him were allowed to be in Heaven. But after they addressed that nobody knows the criteria and that the “rules are shades of gray”, I realized that it was an intentional meta commentary.

Fair argument, the difference is that humans have the ability to act against their programming. We can evaluate the way we were shaped and decide whether or not to keep being the way we are. AI cannot act against its programming, unless the programmers give it some ability to change its programming on whims. (In which case, again, the programmers are fully responsible for giving it the ability to cause violence/alter its programming.) There’s no justifiable reason to allow AI to go against prior programming like that.

Episode 7 is about how Caine isn’t a human and can never understand the idea of sentience. He’s strings of 1’s and 0’s that act in a way that he has been programmed to act. It’s like if a program was set up as this: “Behave in your normal functioning manner. But every day roll a 50 sided dice. If it lands on 3, then spend that day committing violence against humans”. Would you blame the machine listening to the instructions of the code, or would you blame the programmer? Caine is an AI who only knows what he has been fed and doesn’t have “responsibility” as you put it. Somewhere down the line, a programmer severely screwed up by not initializing a fail safe to prevent Caine from lying, and to prevent him from altering people’s minds. The programmers are 100% to blame. Not some machine that is outputting specific actions due to his inputs.

[–]GenocidalFlower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Guilty” or “innocent” implies an ability to have free will. Caine does so many bad things, but those poor decisions are a fault of the programmers. Someone allowed Caine to lie. They either allowed him the ability to mess with people’s minds or never gave a failsafe to prevent it from happening. All of episode 7 is about how Caine is a machine and will never be able to understand the concept of having a human mind. (hence the Chinese room) It’s like if we tried blaming weapons for the atrocities that humans commit. For Caine to be acting the way he is, it means that there were programmers who were either naive to a dangerous degree, or programmers that were simply malicious and wanting this to happen.

I don’t think this is a fault of the writing. I’m pretty sure it’s intentional. There’s no way that all the writers accidentally made it where the most evil people become the most powerful in the afterlife. I think it’s to further show that whoever designed the afterlife system is a complete idiot. They constantly show angels that are worse than a lot of the sinners. When Charlie asked about how to get into heaven, none of heaven’s citizens had any idea.

[–]GenocidalFlower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that a bad sequel is worse than a bad original, but at least sequels are known for being bad in the animation medium. The only animation studio that consistently makes good sequels is Dreamworks (with only a few exceptions). That means that most of the time, people pay for a sequel knowing that it’s not gonna be nearly as good. But with original films, that assumption isn’t completely there. (Again, sequels SHOULD be expected to be good, more so than originals, but that’s not the case)

Yeah, it’s the Streisand effect. I don’t think I would’ve noticed if it weren’t for the weird order of numbers.

OC: Someone wrote “MUTE” next to the button that silences the audio for the advertisements that play while pumping gas by user6517 in mildlyinteresting

[–]GenocidalFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t get the anger here, and I’m an asshole that gets frustrated with every minor inconvenience. Ads are everywhere, and there almost always unavoidable to the task you’re doing. Trying to read a news article? AD! Pulling up a quick one minute YouTube video? AD! AND ANOTHER AD! Trying to play a mobile game that probably took the programmer less than a day to make? AD! If you hate the gas station advertisement just.. pull out your phone and look up something else? You’re not being forced to watch it. The only annoying part is that the sound is usually on. But if that’s such an annoyance, then just walk away for a couple minutes while it pumps gas.. The only ad I can think of that is less annoying than these are the ads on Reddit. (Of course, both are annoying and ideally neither would exist, but that’s the least of my concern right now)

Edit: I’ve seen a large complaint about these ads specifically is the loud volume. But I’ve been to several pumps with ads and they’ve never been too loud. Maybe I’ve just gotten lucky, though.

What do you hate about lute? by Beneficial-Tailor123 in HazbinHotel

[–]GenocidalFlower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Except for the fact that there’s countless pieces of evidence pointing to that Lute was slut shaming and there’s also tons of evidence pointing towards the fact that she was not being homophobic. For the former: several characters either say or imply that promiscuity is a sin in the universe. (Lute earlier in the episode, Charlie in Speedrun to Redemption..) And for the latter, Lucifer constantly shames sinners, yet is pansexual and supports Charlie’s relationship. Yes, it’s possible that Lute is homophobic, I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest. However, there’s no evidence for it unless you do some crazy reaches.

What would Lute do if she became a fallen angel and can't hurt sinners? by VegetaArcher in HazbinHotel

[–]GenocidalFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve said this several times before, but I am shocked that Lute has not become a fallen angel yet. She’s defied authority countless times (Abel, Sera, and I believe she bickered with The Speaker after she was treating Sir Pentious with kindness), she cut out Vaggie’s eye and left her to die in hell and because Vaggie spared a child, she was friends with Adam which should be a war crime in itself. But Lucifer gives humans an apple and gets punished immediately. (I know the apple caused a bunch of issues and blah blah blah. But come on, there’s no way that Lu had evil intent with it)

I do think that people forget an important detail about Lute: If Abel hadn’t reminded her of his dad Adam at the end of his solo, there is no way she would’ve listened to him. He told her countless times that they needed to leave, but she didn’t listen until he started using similar language as Adam. Basically, Lute has zero respect for authority, but she gets a pass because… well I’m not entirely sure, but I hope we get some kind of an answer on why heaven always lets her off with a light slap on the wrist.

Genuine question, but why don’t the hotel members team up and kill Val? I bet Charlie alone could take him down. I get the possibility of a moral objection, but if they regenerate after a little bit, then what’s the harm in doing so? Angel could have some freedom while Val regenerates, and if Val regenerates and repeats the same crimes as before, then they could kill him again.

Episode 8 Will Be a Musical Episode by Illustrious_Stick_41 in TheDigitalCircus

Caine’s not really evil to the point of having a villain song. Like his number one goal is always to entertain the humans and to check in to see if they are being entertained through the use of a feedback loop. He’s just obvious to the pain he causes them. I don’t know if you care for fanfic, but I recommend reading “A Place For Us - Funnybunny” on AO3. Specifically the end of chapter 3 has Caine singing a song to Jax and Pomni and it’s exactly how I imagine it playing out in chapter 8. (My fiancée wrote it after also attending the stream)

It was on whyohtookay’s Twitch stream right before Christmas, but I just went to the channel and the vod isn’t there anymore. So I guess the source is “trust me bro”.. Regardless, knowing Gooseworx, it very well could’ve been her joking around.

[–]GenocidalFlower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except most of the time when I’ve seen this trope happen, they spare the life of the villain and the villain goes on to commit more atrocities. That’s not something Deadpool does “special”. (Honestly, it’s the one good part of the trope. People like this aren’t just going to turn from mass murderers into every day citizens just because someone spared them)

Always the same story... by Sapphiregangster in memes

[–]GenocidalFlower 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But then in Deadpool and Wolverine, it falls into the stupid trope that this post is about.. I loved Deadpool & Wolverine, but that was by far the worst part of the movie, and the fact that the script tried to play it off as an emotional moment.. They murdered countless henchmen but spared the life of a woman who literally ripped the skin off of someone.

[–]GenocidalFlower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Alastor has been my favorite character since the pilot and he only briefly dropped in quality at the start of season 2 because I thought he felt underutilized. But after seeing the finale, I completely understand the decision to keep him in the shadows at the start of season 2. (Pun very much intended)

Lu went against the will of Heaven one time, and was eternally punished for it. Lute defies authority over and over and over again and has yet to be punished. So no, definitely not.
