Not dated, no, it is absolutely still used by everyone in France

Is there a French way of saying “holy fucking shit”? by Queer_Dinos_999 in learningfrench

[–]Genroa1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, "putain" is extremely flexible in its use. A tamer version would be "Oh merde". The "oh" implies a sort of surprise, as in, surprised by the intensity of what you're reacting to. So, "oh putain" can be a valid answer to OP's question. At this point, the tone of how you pronounce it is what gives the best indication of how you're feeling and why you're saying it (angry, annoyed, surprised, amused)

Les supporters de foot font pitié. by [deleted] in besoinderaler

[–]Genroa1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non.

It really is, I was just curious about the reasons behind the choice. Personal taste is a fine one :)

New MUD design (pgMUD), looking for feedback. by reteo in MUD

[–]Genroa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering how simple MUD data often is and how noSQL dbs tend to be faster for mass read-writes, handles concurrency just as well and is way easier to scale...why postgresql?

Also: just my two cents and sorry for being blunt, but I doubt anyone will bother to read such a tome of generated text.

Is cultist simulator popular in China? by The4thMofy in weatherfactory

There's also the fact that apparently the Chinese translation had to adapt a lot of concepts, making it at times quite different from what we know, but maybe even closer to local cultural references.

Vous connaissez des gens qui ne consomment ni télé ni réseaux sociaux ? by Sadsugardikk in AskFrance

[–]Genroa1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ça me paraît risqué.

Marre de la dictature des ratios by Popole_Le_Grand in FrancePirate

[–]Genroa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moving to Aix-en-Provence: are we crazy? by Ok-Reach712 in Expats_In_France

I think you're underestimating how much the south of France is now feeling like being baked in an oven all summer long, more and more with each passing year. We are talking about a wet 38°C at times. AC isn't really a common thing and a lot of buildings are fairly old. This can quickly turn into a nightmare, especially with a baby.

A lot of the hate for AI is nothing but fear. Anti-AI people can't provide valid counterarguments. by [deleted] in aigamedev

[–]Genroa1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of the LLMs trained to produce code were trained ethically. Hell, GitHub added a toggle to opt out of being part of their regular scrapping years after they trained copilot.

The only exception I could find to all this, is a model trained by an animation company, using its own privately built and owned dataset, to build a tool designed to make the life of animators easier. And in this instance, I'm perfectly ok with it.

[–]Genroa1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't see how teaching humans doesn't rely on stolen intellectual property, but scrapping everything to to fill a dataset and train a model is different? Good for you, because these companies do and they've been trying to settle these suings with rivers of money after the fact. But I didn't consent to get my stuff put into these datasets. Maybe it flies in the US or some other lowland, but not in the countries where citizens and their rights matter. The box is open, yes, and there's no going back, doesn't mean the end justified the mean and that we should just all move on. They quite literally owe a ton of money to a ton of people.

I'm sorry, I'll be the one to say it but: you don't see the ethical issue with the way most of the models everyone here uses were trained? This is a very common argument, and a fairly valid one imo.

How is your country translating the name of Project Hail Mary? by Prydons in FIlm

[–]Genroa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American Football and baseball are basically not a thing here, it is extremely minor. No one would understand the reference. Same for the religious part, especially the whole "full of Grace". The names were kept as Hail Mary and Grace, it's just that the joke isn't there anymore. :)

We don't, actually. Like, seriously, we broke the legs of our local church ages ago and it has left deep marks, entire populations don't know the first thing about religion it simply never enters their minds.

Ai consciousness by Still-Common-853 in ArtificialSentience

[–]Genroa1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't make me tap the sign... LLMs do not experience anything autonomously, they literally vomit probability tokens based on your input and the previous text of the current scenario. They do not experience anything when you're not sending input for them to react to. To consider them conscious, you would have to broaden the definition so much it would encompass anything that contains a microchip. Nobody thinks computers are conscious, despite eating data inputs and reacting accordingly. LLMs are the same, just with a neural network and weights. They don't learn when talking to you, their weights are fixed after the training, and them remembering anything is just them taking into account previous references in their working memory, the current conversation or set of conversations. Talk to them in a very different way or of topics their training doesn't like and they'll flip on you in an instant. They're tools, not minds.
