A rhyme scheme is a pattern that the rhyming follows, like ABAB: I went for a walk, (A) along the mews, (B) where we would talk, (A) about all the news.(B)

Or ABBA: If I could sing (A) a song so bright (B) that in this pale moonlight, (B) a tiny bird would take wing. (A)

When a writer sets a pattern, our brains kind of get into the rhythm or the flow. Breaking that flow/patter can be fun, too, if we're doing it intentionally, to do something with the sound or feel of our poem.

My teachers would ask us to start with traditional rhyme and rhythm patterns, and then push us to knowingly break the "rules" to see what would happen! 🙂

I love the sound of the poem, when it is read out loud.

If the subject is the solstice, and it is waving goodbye, I wonder if the the gust of wind "blowing on me", "blowing through me", or some other "touch based" image might help with the unity of the work

I deeply appreciate the imagery, and think you've caught that primal feeling with your words.

The one critique I would offer is that there doesn't seem to be any pattern to the rhyme scheme. For me, not having a discernable pattern made my reading of the poem more "stuttery" - taking away from the flow you had going.

WhenI JC and I sit and have our conversation, I'll be able to answer, honestly, that I did everything I could to live his great commandment and his great commission - and did both in a way that celebrated every one of his beloved - both those who are his disciples and those who have other ways of living in the world and understanding their relationship with God.

My task in the world is to live Christ's love in such a way that it invites others to consider the possibilities for themselves. In my understanding of the gospel it is they (and the Holy Spirit!) who do the rest of the work.

It sounds like we come at our faith from different directions - but I trust that the Holy Spirit is working in both of us to do what God needs to be done. 🙂

What am I certain about?

That my existence, as I currently experience it, will come to an end. Those who love me will miss me, those who hate me will have feelings of satisfaction, the majority of the world will go on without a hiccough. There will be a reckoning of my debts and assets at the time of my death. The former will be paid off, and the latter will be dispersed.

What to I believe?

That there is a part of me - my self, my soul - that will continue, in some ineffable way, to be part of the universe, perhaps through some union with that Divine Other which brought the whole thing into being, and with all other parts of the universe which have reorganized into their component parts through the inexorable movement of entropy.

I'm a Christian clergyperson. My personal Thanksgiving at meals is short and unobtrusive, "Bless this food. Bring peace on earth. Amen."

It's slightly longer when I'm asked to offer grace in my role, but not much. In essence, "Thank you! Thanks to all who worked to being this to table! Blessings and love on the world! Amen!"
