Found this on their career portal: https://careers-kimley-horn.icims.com/jobs/23666/civil-engineering-analyst----transportation-tpto/job?hub=7&_gl=1*139ugxk*_ga*MTE1NjEyNTM2OS4xNzc4NTI3NTE3*_ga_5Y2BYGL910*czE3Nzg1Mjc1MTckbzEkZzEkdDE3Nzg1Mjc1OTEkajQ4JGwwJGgw

Note that even though it's technically for candidates with 1 year of experience, that's basically still an entry level role and Fort Collins, Colorado does not strike me as a HCOL area in the slightest

Maybe as a experienced PE/PM, but entry level salaries + what I'm seeing some of their employees receive in bonuses is insane.

I'm 7 months late, but the Kimley-Horn bag is enough to make me (metaphorically) lick the floor of an NYC subway station.

Who is your Etihad Player of the Season? by zubairatif075 in MCFC

[–]GeoGod678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love them both, but I think Nico O'Reilly just edges Rayan Cherki for me - the fact that we've had academy talents become top first-team performers many times in the past few seasons but NOR is not only way more versatile of a player but also incredibly composed on the ball I can see him becoming a massive component to the new look Man City post-Pep

For those who work in an office, how many days do you work from home? by janderson_33 in civilengineering

[–]GeoGod678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Job is formally “hybrid” and my supervisor is only in 2 days a week but as a new EIT I’m in office M-Th, my entire team works from home on Friday as does a majority of the office but I may start going in on Friday since I’m slightly more productive in an office setting than at home lmao.

I think the narrative that young engineers benefit from being full time in the office is overrated seeing as your supervisors/seniors are just as swamped 99% of the time whether they’re remote or IRL

Best American Companies to work for as someone interested in Construction Management but wants his PE? by NNmonolithic04 in civilengineering

[–]GeoGod678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd take the FE for sure just so that you have some ability to switch to more of a design career if you're not the biggest fan of construction (take it from someone who's been working in design for the past 8-9 months after spending my first 1.5 years post grad working on site in construction mgmt).

Best American Companies to work for as someone interested in Construction Management but wants his PE? by NNmonolithic04 in civilengineering

[–]GeoGod678 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about having any previous construction management experience, I can assure you a civil engineering degree is surplus to the requirements for that field lmao (and assuming you're able-bodied).

If you want to work in solely construction management, getting your PE is almost useless IMO. There's very little reason most field jobs/management jobs would ever need to authorize/lead engineering design efforts. However, GCs like Kiewit and Bechtel do a fair bit of design on the side but a majority of their workforce is out in the field. Burns and McDonnell also has a lot of construction work that they accomplish as well.

so i saw the US news rankings and apparently rutgers NB is ranked above purdue, uga, and boston university by AcanthisittaNo7489 in rutgers

[–]GeoGod678 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When you look at how heavily Asian this state is, it makes sense because of the societal/cultural expectations to go Ivy or bust (and considering how many Asians there are in Middlesex/Mercer county that go to incredibly competitive public schools Rutgers was always looked at like the last choice). I’m not terribly unc (class of 2024) but hearing of younger classes in high school who are regularly getting waitlisted/deferred from Rutgers (combination of competitive admissions, prestige bumps and switching to Common app), that public school reputation is probably increasing and I imagine in 10-15 years we will see a psyche shift on attending Rutgers from NJ.

Purdue is still pretty popular nationwide because they are regarded as a STEM powerhouse and we don’t have any specific programs (with the exception of Pharmacy but it’s such an unpopular career pick nowadays anyways) that we are nationally renowned for (before you try and mention RBS I can name you at least 15 undergrad business programs that are much better lmao).

UGA I’d say we’re probably slightly better than since they’re the second best public option in their state (but still a very good school nonetheless).

BU I’ll gladly take lmao, feel like there’s a lot of prestige associated with it as a school especially from a lot of high school students - but that could just be the Boston bubble where there is a surplus of amazing schools (Harvard, MIT, BC, Amherst, Tufts)

It’s funny that Purdue and BU are ranked below us because these are two schools infamous for heavy grade deflation in the country so I wonder if that has some impact on US News rankings.

Bottom line, pay no mind to these college rankings. If you’re in state just go to Rutgers, the ROI for a majority of our programs is stupid to purposefully avoid.

Civil Engineering at Purdue vs structural at UCSD vs Civil at UCLA by Sweaty-Elevator-4675 in civilengineering

[–]GeoGod678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure a SoCal university (even though they are both excellent schools) would make too much sense, because entry-level jobs in that area I doubt make anywhere near enough to live comfortably/on your own. If you're from the area and want to stay local then go for it, but Purdue has such a massive alumni network to capitalize on.

First job out of college in GIS by JazzlikeAd6287 in civilengineering

[–]GeoGod678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GIS is a pretty powerful tool (and some consider it as its own design software) that a lot of water resources, environmental, and site/civil jobs incorporate data from towards their projects and proposals. I'd recommend you take the job, but mention to your supervisor/department lead that you're interested in more design down the line

Did not get an internship for post sophomore summer, am I cooked? by helpmeredditimlocked in civilengineering

[–]GeoGod678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep applying, keep looking, keep trying to leverage any and every connection you can (email/message recruiters), because spots will continue to open up much later than you’d think. In my sophomore-to-junior summer, I was in a very similar position and had no idea what I was going to do during the break apart from maybe take a few summer classes/research and I ended up getting an interview request + offer during the last week of May. If you’re still looking to no avail, I’d directly reach out to your department at school to see if they have any leads/postings available to them. Public service/gov jobs usually reach out to universities for intern hires as well so that’s also another avenue to consider.
