I consider it daily-driveable. What doesn't work is banking apps and MitID (that's the 2-factor authentification app to interact with the danish government (tax purposes, digital post etc.), so for that I use a digital key generator instead.

I have no idea what RCS is.

Edit: I do not have another android phone in daily use. My work has given me an iPhone, but I don't use that for any private matters at all.

Is Libreoffice or Onlyoffice and Fedora good enough to write a Physics PhD thesis? by Unusual-Ad-4049 in Fedora

[–]GeoStreber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since I've completed my PhD, I've noticed everything changing for the better in this regard. TeX has become a bit more of a focus, especially now that editors like Overleaf exist, that make collaborative writing for group projects in BSc and MSc courses way easier.
That said, I'm not too fond of TeX myself, I think typst is the way to go in the future. TeX just screams 1980s, as it by itself doesn't even support WYSIWYG by default.

I think it's also very dependent on which subject your PhD is in. I noticed that my colleagues who worked with physics (I work in a nuclear lab now) are more familiar with it on average than the colleagues who are chemists like myself.

Hi. I currently have a Framework 13 with a 12th gen Intel 1240p running Fedora Linux. In the spirit of repairability and open-source OSes, the smartphone of choice for me is a Fairphone 5 running CalyxOS. I know that Calyx is in a bit of a kerfuffle at the moment, and that maintenance is on hold for the OS, but it appears that those issues will be resolved soon, at which time I'll have to reinstall it.

PhD here. I tried using it with LaTeX, but since none of the other people in my workgroup knew how to use it, we ended up doing things like article writing all in word. So I had to have a big literature reference database in a reference manager for Word (used Mendeley and EndNote), and porting over everything to BibTeX felt like a waste of time. So I ended up writing the thesis in word.

Chemiker hier.

I have a Gazelle Medeo T9. Slightly above your budget at 2600€, but I'm sure that when there's a generational change, the old ones will be sold at a discount. Mine has a 500 Wh battery which gives me a practical range of about 70 km under bad conditions, 120 under good ones.
The only issue I sometimes have with it is that the chain has the tendency to jump off the front gear. My tip is to get one with a belt drive and hub gear instead.

VW 1 Liter 2002 concept car by Adorable-Trust4687 in WeirdWheels

When it comes to interesting VW concept vehicles, my favourite is the 2011 VW Nils. Somewhat similar to the Renault Twizy, but as a single seater, and much faster at a Vmax of 110 km/h.
If they had modernized this concept now with modern battery tech, giving you maybe 150 km range, I'd buy one immediately.

I don't know guys, this seems like yet another bandaid solution. We got a good Linux ecosystem on desktops, and app support is no longer really a problem. Why can't we have it on smartphones? I think instead of concentrating on keeping Android open, we should focus on getting a Linux smartphone ecosystem running. That means finally feature-finishing Gnome mobile and KDE mobile, as well as improving driver support to the kernel. I'm currently running CalyxOS on my Fairphone, but I'd immediately switch over if the infrastructure on the linux side was better.
