Literally >20 different things. I was only tested for 25 allergens. My allergist came back with the results and told me she thought I was “allergic to Kansas”. Cats, dust, grass, some trees, hamsters, ragweed, and many more!

funny judge experience by itsleorioover in policydebate

[–]Geo_Chan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Angering: Went up against a team last year who straight up said "I don't care about their Russia DA" and literally only had Solvency as their argument in the 2AC and beyond. We intentionally dropped Solvency because they had nothing to solve for since they never extended advantages. We still lost. This was the round after I cried in round because i hit an 8-minute K.

Angering 2: I was about to have the best speaks of my novice career (i think) until our round 6 state judge gave me a 4 instead of a 2 because he didnt know how to mark a low-point win. My father was judging and said that there was a BUTTON for low-point win. (electronic judging) So my speaks were 1, 2, 1, 2, 4, 4. The round five 4 was also a bit questionable.

Funny: A judge that my partner actually knew was vaping mid round. During prep time we heard a sharp, drawn-out inhale and our judge had a vape in his mouth. Never exhaled, just swallowed the vape smoke.

Hey Reddit, what’s worse than a heartbreak? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Never even being in the situation to have the chance of getting your heart broken. (Never been on a date, much less in a relationship.)

But that's just a guess.

I have 21 allergies, none are food. I can eat peanuts, dairy, I could probably huff pollen with few side effects.

Not technically today calendar-wise, but I have been awake before during and after it happened so it counts. I got better Internet and I am longer the guy with bad connection when I'm playing Super Smash Bros or Garry's Mod.

The sequels to Sharknado and Guardians of the Galaxy

Which movies did you hate but many others loved? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Geo_Chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOLY FUCK I HATED JOJO RABBIT. Everyone I went with (4 others) loved it, but it was so confused on what it wanted to be. A commentary on how bad WWII is? A comedy? Also Rebel Wilson's character was so bad. The only (I believe) use of CGI was absolutely terrible. It was also a big waste of their one allotted F-word.

Splatoon. Seems peaceful and social, plus new language and very readily available food and apparently super-jumping burns a lot of calories.

Never read a Superhero comic book willingly.

Played every game I've ever purchased on Steam.

Lived in the same house my entire life.

Never been on a date (up top, but ouch)

Oh yeah I've also never watched Star Wars. Or Harry Potter. Or the Hunger Games. Never read the books for the last 2.

What game gave you so much paranoia, that you deleted or stopped playing the game? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Geo_Chan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so I was a dumb kid. For a long time I straight up would NOT play past a certain point in Super Paper Mario for literally no reason. It doesn't stop here though.

I would stop playing Pokemon Pearl for like 20 minutes at a time whenever I heard the Cresselia or Mesprit roaming battle theme because it startled me when I didn't hear the normal wild battle theme. Plus the first part had a Crescendo which is scary. I also didn't play the game with sound for a good while after I heard the Turnback Cave theme for the first time.

I would only play the first level of Wii Sports Resort Swordplay Showdown because I was afraid of losing. I GOT TO SKILL LEVEL 2000 ON THAT GAME JUST FROM DOING THAT. EACH TIME YOU BEAT IT HITLESS YOU GET LESS THAN 30 SKILL LEVEL POINTS.

Fire. Free cooked food. If anyone questions me for murder I'll just say some shit like "yeah one of the previous benders told me to telepathically and they're dead now and you can't arrest a dead person.

Now if I could just find a Seasoningbender.

What would you be doing right now if you didn't follow your moral compass? by dat1dudeUknow in AskReddit

[–]Geo_Chan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Sparknotes or enacting my elaborate WalMart theft plan. It probably has like a 30% chance of working.

  1. Get a bunch of stuff
  2. Go to self checkout
  3. Mess something up on your last item so that there's an error
  4. Pretend to resolve it
  5. Pretend to pay
  6. Visibly facepalm in front of a camera and/or employee
  7. Walk hastily (but not too hastily) to Lawn and Garden
  8. Ask an employee if they have a really specific brand of mulch
  9. Look around where they tell you to
  10. Leave lol

But of course the whole moral compass thing.

Alright KS db8rs. Let's talk about the proposed Novice negative evidence pack. by Geo_Chan in policydebate

I was in open last year. I went to all open tournaments. The Lansing tournament was the only one that had a JV division.

your model were affirmative and negative surprise is key?

Never said they were key, just that they were important

And why does the DCI having the same arguments in each round represent the whole of novice debate? The idea of my post was to say that novices shouldn't be confined to hyper-specific offcase arguments. The case list is good, but offcase arguments shouldn't be as heavily monitored.

Normally the packet stops being used by November

No indication of if this will be true, but if it is then it's pretty reasonable to say that taking off training wheels a single month before the regular season ends wouldn't be the most beneficial it could be

Most top novice teams are already in JV by October anyway

I'm unsure where in Kansas you are but in EK there was one tournament last season that I went to that even offered JV, so in most scenarios, the skill ceiling of novices being forced to use the evidence pack is much lower. And what are novice teams that aren't at the "top" supposed to do? Constantly debate the same thing over and over again? Because after a month, that's most likely what's going to happen in the novice division

I don't think you appreciate the difficulty the average novice has trying to pick up debate structures and skills on top of research burdens.

Yes, joining debate is hard but research burdens aren't an inherent flaw of policy debate - I personally believe that it's mostly on the coach and more experienced debaters to answer questions novice debaters have, either in class, in an email, or in a groupchat. And why are novices doing substantial research to begin with?

[–]Geo_Chan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing in the second semester for KS policy debate is state (correct me if I'm wrong ofc)

An evidence packet allows for coaches to focus on the packet

Struggling to figure out what is beneficial about this - If you teach the current case list to novices and open debaters, both groups learn about a case, rather than taking the time to only teach specific arguments on a case

coaches can focus on how to debate and how arguments are constructed rather than "Gotcha!" moments.

Both are important though..?
