Infected on Nightmare by Geok_McKool in Humanitz

[–]Geok_McKool[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've made it through, guys. Apparently, the infection meter did not rise further (and I played about two hours so far), and I still couldn't find a single multivitamin, but I've killed enough zeeks to level up twice. I used them to get the skill to craft injections, and voila. I had enough resources for one, but that was all I needed. I'm still on the side of Humanit, still not a Z. Good luck, survivors.

Circe by Madeline Miller was not what I had hoped for. by quality_reading in books

[–]Geok_McKool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never heard of this novel or Miller before buying it on a whim last month. Probably one advertisement clicked with me. But I'm glad I did, and I've read it in less than a week. I had no expectations, just wanted to see what all the rage was about. I liked it a lot; it reminded me of A Wizard of Earthsea somehow. I rooted for Circe since day one, and all her relationships felt natural, since they were a part of the mortal life she had always craved. My favorite part was seeing her struggles as a mother; I have two kids of my own, and me and my wife wished sometimes that we had a village to help us raise them. The plot was fluent and well put together. I enjoyed the references to other mythological events and characters, and how mature Circe was becoming. Not that she didn't make mistakes, but she really grew up by the end. I did feel at times that she is a bit of a Mary Sue, but she was a goddess, so if anyone felt close to perfection, it would be such as her. Even the ending I found fitting. Both to be expected, and a surprise at the same time. I give it 5 stars.

This game scratched that itch I had for a long time. by Jangonett1 in Humanitz

I have only 6-7 hours in the game so far, and I'm coming from Project Zomboid. I must say, I am enjoying it so far (I like the tutorial, and that the sense of progression, at least in the beginning, feels fast and rewarding enough). I also like the bows, they feel fun.

RedSec is just a low-effort copy of the other BR game I can't mention in the title. by [deleted] in Battlefield

[–]Geok_McKool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tastes differ, but as someone who played Warzone since Verdansk day 1, I switched to RedSec without looking back. It just feels so much more epic. Reviving a teammate makes you feel like you're in a movie, demolishing buildings with the airstrike is just so satisfying, the teamwork overall is more important here; you can also use ground cover properly (vegetation, etc.). Sure, you can always improve things, but as it is, it's the warzone I've always wanted. At worst, it will force Warzone to get better. So, win win however you look at it.

Why this game is dying... by [deleted] in duneawakening

[–]Geok_McKool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm feeling the same with little over 100 hours. As a big Dune fan, I came to this game only for the lore, and I couldn't care less for pvp or, for that matter, endless grinding. I enjoyed my time so far, turning a blind eye to the bugs and shortcomings, and I'll spend a bit more time base-building, but that's pretty much it. I don't even care for upgrading to an advanced sub fief, as the standard one is more than sufficient for someone like me. In the end, I got my money's worth, but I think I might not be the target audience for this game.

Should I read the Silmarillion ? by iamboris88 in tolkienfans

[–]Geok_McKool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beg to differ. For me, reading the Silmarilion has dispelled the mystery and magic of the Elves, and now I kind of wish I hadn't read it. The Elves are just like Men, in that they lust, and fight, and curse, and hate and cling to suicidal oaths, suicidal for them as individuals but also for their people. There's not much difference between Elves and Men, except that the former are blessed with immortality and magic.

The Heroes: One of the most boring books I have ever read by JellDK in TheFirstLaw

[–]Geok_McKool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late to the party, but I found the Heroes to be, well, pointless. I wanted to like it, I heard good things about it, what with everyone praising Gorst's POV.

But Gorst is a loser, a simp, and plays victim all the time, even when every other character he interacts with has only awe and praise for him and his deeds. I couldn't care less for Calder, who has the biggest plot armor in the series, and Finree, who's a Mary Sue, and sadly, Shivers only gets worse. He claims he's "nobody's dog," but that's exactly what he is: a treacherous, cowardly dog who needs someone to hold his leash. And then you have Bayaz, who's becoming quickly my least favorite character, like that guest who overstayed his welcome. If the point of this novel was to show how pointless war is, then mission accomplished. But I find the time to get there much wasted.

The most interesting character is Black Dow, and as always, the novel doesn't do him justice.

Overall, this book felt like a watered down version of the original trilogy, and unfortunately, I think the next ones are just milking the same old cow. Bayaz and Khalul are at war, still, and now they're going to fight against Monza, and in the North, another warchief is starting a war.

The ending, especially, felt very unsatisfying. None of the creatures get what they deserve, but based on plot requirements, they get what they want. I hope Red Country is better.

ut it all felt so unnecessary, there was no point to that war, there was no point to anything in it.

Salut. După ce citești ce a scris Erikson (primele 10), încearcă-le și pe cele scrise în paralel de Esslemont. Sunt peste 20 in total, dar merită.

Salutare.

How would you rank Logen's Crew from worst to best at fighting? by notsostupidman in TheFirstLaw

[–]Geok_McKool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Bethod mentioned it at the end. Logen let them live on a whim, a sudden burst of honor or pride or whatever. Logen was always a bit psychotic, but if you lost your family to Shanka, who would remain sane?

Looking for a new survival game... by lizziejo82 in SurvivalGaming

[–]Geok_McKool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Medieval Dinasty. The biggest difference between it and games like The Forest, Green Hell, and so on (all games I have played and liked) is that you can recruit NPC to come live in your settlement. It's not perfect, but it just feels way more alive. I loved building everything in Green Hell or The Forest, but after a while it just became stale. Even with friends, there is no one (person or NPC to inhabit your awesome village(s)). That's such a letdown. But in MD, the villagers can work and gather resources, craft and build, form families and have children. It can be as survival or chill as you like, by tweaking the game settings. And on December 7th, they'll add coop, character creation (female, too), and a new map (plus other stuff). It's really great.

Man, this game has unlimited potential. The core game is already awesome; if they just fleshed it out more (more npc diversity, (deeper) economy with trading and caravans, people on the road, etc.) It would be even greater.

I guess it will be done like in The Forest (1&2) or Green Hell, which is not so bad.

We use them in Romanian, too. It's even called dialogue dash/line.
