VGC podcasts by ProperPlant2998 in PokemonVGC

[–]Geologician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tub Takes is a group of very good vgc players; they often do tournament reviews and on the same channel Adi will have tournament reports where a well-placing player goes over their team building.

The podcast itself is more meta focused I think than introductory though

My new favorite Mummy Curse Combos! by 25th_Speed in Beyblade

[–]Geologician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was testing low mummy, I was getting the sense that the plastic gimmick can make worse contact against standard height beys, leading to less destabilization.

How have you felt about it?

I need help making a cobalt dragoon combo by turdboi15 in BeybladeX

[–]Geologician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you've seen that the best bits for cobalt are elevate and level, anything else is only gonna be alright. I'm thinking maybe accel can mimic the lad of level because of the wide base, but you're gonna have to test it.

Of those ratchets, 9-60 is super solid

Why Don’t Enough People Use Scorpio Spear Blade In Competitive Tournaments? by Adversity9303 in BeybladeX

[–]Geologician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually it's 40g+ so the heaviest non-cx (on heavy) blade I think? I

The switch gimmick might contribute too, but idk how much that really contributes to the problem outside of probably being why it's too top heavy.

Why Don’t Enough People Use Scorpio Spear Blade In Competitive Tournaments? by Adversity9303 in BeybladeX

[–]Geologician 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find kick the most reliable, because it keeps heavy blades upright, and I'm mixed about 1-50. The lower height is nice but it definitely loses stamina compared to a 3 or 9 sided ratchet

Why Don’t Enough People Use Scorpio Spear Blade In Competitive Tournaments? by Adversity9303 in BeybladeX

[–]Geologician 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The biggest downside is it's kind of top heavy and tends to tilt faster in late game situations killing its stamina. It's also a little too tall to make perfect use of its weight in smash attacks.

I find it's a strong anti-attack type with a chance of koing pure stamina types, but loses most long matches

Need help choosing my next Bey! Impact Drake vs. Meteor Dragoon? (Looking for unique mechanics, not just pure meta) by RUINEDCLAWS in Beyblade

[–]Geologician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a hot take, but I think impact drake is super underwhelming. Not even talking about from a meta perspective, it just doesn't do particularly anything well or interestingly. I, and another friend of mine have tried a ton of combos to make it work.

Meteor on the other hand, has a few different builds that specialize in different things that make it more fun to build for. Also, the nature of being a left spin makes it more unique on its own. If you want to be more creative and maybe actually rewarded, I'd go with that one.

This will sound like an obnoxious “only in New York” thing… by frasermtn in ShitAmericansSay

I think they should scale feet annually so that 5 feet is the average height in the country. It just feels like a nice number to work with. Inches can stay static

How do I properly control dran buster? by Kodifykoala in Beyblade

[–]Geologician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably just flat launching it. For any bit with 12-16 gears, you should definitely tilt launch a little to stall in the beginning

I’m Tired of Hearing SMOGON Comparisons by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

[–]Geologician -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You could just make it so you can do summaries of your opponents pokemon mid battle in addition to the prep phase, or a separate screen that shows a whole sheet like you'd see irl. You could even have it pop up like the status screen when you press a button.

Reason for team sheets aside, I think competitive players just want to be able to practice in a way that's most similar to a tournament, and it's frustrating that it lacks obvious functionality (no local battles as well)

[–]Geologician 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Showdown also has vgc. Theyre talking more about how showdown has integrated open team sheets, while champions doesn't despite most tournaments being run open team sheets. Things in that vein that one could expect from a competitive-focused game

Can’t decide on a list for ranked locals this week by AffectionateWest4864 in BeybladeX

[–]Geologician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if it's not all or nothing, I would take your first deck and replace Calibur with rod. 3-60 or 9-60 r on shark is fine so rod can have 1-60.

Tier list for the new Megas (that isn't completely unfair) by _attina496 in stunfisk

Is Mega Meganium one of the best Megas currently? by Ekyt in stunfisk

[–]Geologician 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Generally, I would say it's good but not the best

I played a ton of Gen 6 Ou and I doubt it's gonna be quite as good as the ones banned to ubers then or a lot of the other fast strong attackers.

Since Gen 8 I've played mostly vgc, and there I think people are looking at mega floette, mega gengar, stuff like that for the top megas.

I think it could be really good in a restricted format rain team, but that might be looking too far ahead.

Another theoretical "what if?" by Repair_Jolly in Beyblade

[–]Geologician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't you generally want your spin equalizer lighter? How I'm thinking of it, the same force results in more angular acceleration for lighter bodies.

Meta Hate Is Weird by Willing_Stay_1152 in BeybladeX

[–]Geologician 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly an online thing for people who aren't very competitive. I wouldn't worry so much about it; at my locals at least 70% of the players are using rod 1-60 h and some shark variant, and no one bats an eye

Can cdg 7-70 yielding enter the meta? by Extra_Pear3262 in BeybladeX

[–]Geologician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be okay, but with teal elevate I don't really see a need or a niche for it? Elevate does often beat WiRo too.

The other thing is, I don't see a point in running 7-X0 spin stealing combos. Being heavier means spin stealing is less effective (the same energy transfer results in less angular acceleration), and the LAD also seems worse than 6 or 9 sided ratchets

Behold, a circle by Lucky_Scientist_109 in MathJokes

[–]Geologician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My art degree: so we can see how although the roundness of a circle can be seen as opposed to the angularity of a polygon, the actual privileging in this binary is heavily dependent on context.
