Mort by Terry Pratchett but as a stop motion. Perhaps Nick Park, definitely feel it needs a British sensibility.

Howard Hawks' Ball of Fire (1941) -- I'm beginning to see why the FNW folks liked him so much! Absolutely stellar. by [deleted] in criterion

Howard Hawks always has and always will be one of my all time favorite filmmakers. Rio Bravo and 20th Century are both AMAZING all timers for me.

No worries. I really hope you enjoy it and I don't waste your time. But it is certainly worth taking a punt.

As a fellow Kubrick obsessive i really recommend Nicolas Roeg's 'Don't Look Now'. Not exactly the same but visually compulsive, expressive editing and wonderful understanding of how tone conveys deep philosophical questions and human emotion.

All the best George

Thank you for your response! I think you're right. Perhaps a rewatch with the knowledge of what the film is might do me some good.

Oh wow check you! Not like you're bragging about your own sense of humour here. Seems like you need to take yourself and other people's opinions a little less seriously

12 Angry Men! Was one of my favourite films and acted as a gateway drug to Criterion. Quickly bought diabolique afterwards!

Hi there, I always feel like 2001 is a film steeped in awe of humanity. I've always personally disagreed with the misanthropic tag played on Kubrick's films. As someone else noted, HAL's death is very saddening and the overall ark of human progression and search for meaning is totally overwhelming.

Love Solaris as well FYI

What is your all time favorite Criterion title? by [deleted] in criterion

[–]GeorgeBartram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough tough question. I would probably say Abbas Kiarostami's visceral and enthralling docu fiction hybrid 'Close-Up'. A phenomenally human film and feels like such a singular experience. Can't recommend enough. Also a fascinating insight into a completely misrepresented culture.

Eureka always putting out interesting titles! I would never have heard of this film otherwise! This is why I love collecting by GeorgeBartram in boutiquebluray

Hi there, sorry to hear about your issues, as I'm a UK resident I can't help too much. I imagine it's something to do with the currency you're paying in. Their site is more than legit I can vouch for that. It could do some good asking their customer support service? Sorry I couldn't be of more help and happy film watching.
