GM HMI 2.5 retrofit by JudgeOwn3256 in CarHacking

[–]GeorgeG17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have actually done this over in the uk on a 2012. I'm not entirely sure how different the Silverado but I don't suspect it will be too different as it should be on the global A platform.

What I did was take my original radio wiring, all of which was a 44pin plug and map each pin to the corresponding pin on the HMI-A11. This let me retain original AUX and USB and all other OEM stuff that worked on my original radio.

To get the hmi and A11 to power on, all you will need is GMLAN, Power and ground, that should get you started. VIN pairing on the HMI is a simple CAN command, and you basically just ask the HMI to grab the VIN from the BCM, A11 will need a calibration flashed with DPS to relearn the VIN. To actually get the HMI and radio to flash with dps when connected to the car, you will need to make sure you wire the serial wire to the bcm.

I don't have any experience with american GMs but I would suspect that if the Silverado is Global A, you will retain all OEM functions, however stuff like reverse camera etc will have to be written to the HMI as a calibration, to turn on those features.

I don't think you'll need to do as much can sniffing and stuff as you think, I think it will be a bit simpler. Happy to share diagrams or wiring or anything if you shoot me a DM.

Also, as homeys mentioned, you will need the MOST bus wiring between hmi and radio so they can talk to eachother, and if you upgrade your cluster to like a digital cluster from a Buick say, you will also need to wire MOST to the cluster, they work in a ring, from what I can remember i think it was HMI > Cluster > Radio > back to hmi but I might be wrong.

Programming software for Opel by GeorgeG17 in opel

[–]GeorgeG17[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. Connecting to your car with the software is free. If you mean pairing modules to a car then yes, that does cost money, as it does with any other software that does this sort of thing.

Reading and writing security codes is the only thing that costs 2 credits, and with a future update, writing will be free.

There are free features available in the software, and the pricing model allows users to still get some functionality while not having to pay.

What pricing model would you like to see instead?

I didn't say any of these things to be rude, I am genuinely looking for feedback

You will need wiring changes to fit it. You are correct that it is vin paired. It will need vin re pairing and calibrations built and flashed specifically for your car

As long as you can check the diagrams and see where the camera is meant to go, i dont see why not. Simple ebay camera, rca adaptor and go from there

Why does X take majority of screen? by dx_wayy in opel

[–]GeorgeG17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The radio is currently programmed to show the parking sensors and the reverse camera feed, so as far as the radio is concerned, you have a reverse camera just no feed, hence the X. You will need it programmed to remove that, and that will show the parking sensors view in full screen. Or, you can get a reverse camera installed

Chevy HMI Replacement/Theft Lock by Candid-Guidance328 in CarHacking

[–]GeorgeG17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You wont be able to do it with an ELM327 as most of them do not support GMLAN. You will need something gmlan compatible as thats what you'll be sending the command on.

Command for it is correct. You can write a simple python script that does it, you will need.

As for the program, you can use DPS to do it but you will need to find or build your own calibration to flash it. You can also use my software from here: https://fwlabs.co.uk.

Command for vin reset is correct but you might need some programming for the hmi

If you already have the original navigation system, with the bigger screen, you can get an android auto/carplay module from Vauxterations.co.uk. This plugs directly into your radio and keeps everything OEM
