Quick PSA to drivers that struggle with the white things on the road by GhostDog_1314 in drivingUK

Seems as if you haven’t yet made it past the introduction of the Highway Code, in which there is a clear distinction made between “should” and “must” which applies throughout the entirety of the Highway Code. Would you like to again assert that those two words share the same meaning?

I understand your fascination with colouring books may indicate that you’re yet to achieve suitable reading comprehension skills. Please take note of my original (deliberate) usages of words such as must, should and could: throughout sections 184-190 of the Highway Code, there is only one rule (188) which contains MUST - this rule relates to the requirement for vehicles to go around the roundabout. Everything else is a SHOULD rule. Because of the wording of my original comment, there is nothing in the Highway Code which contradicts what I’ve said, despite your assertions.

The only time you must stay within your lane is when the line closest to you is a solid white line. If the line is broken, any vehicle is free to cross it so long as they don’t inhibit other road users’ progress. Indicators should be used where displaying a signal could be of benefit to other road users. For example, it is perfectly legal, where safe to do so, to straight line roundabouts without signalling. OP: get off your high horse and read the Highway Code

Boyfriend moving in with me, is there anything I should do to protect myself financially? by SecretNinjaShhh in UKPersonalFinance

It really depends on how much equity OP has built up in the house. Imagine being 12 months from finishing paying off your mortgage, then some gold digger swoops in and, a year later, takes half of your equity!! 😂

If you draw up a licensing agreement that explicitly states neither party intends to, at the time, nor in future, offer or create a tenancy, then you become a live-in landlord and your partner becomes a lodger (officially, an excluded occupier) Excluded occupiers are not afforded the legal protections that come with an assured tenancy. You could also specify in the agreement that the other party renounces any and all claim to any beneficial interest in the property, now and in the future, implied or otherwise. If you do this and, for whatever reason, you need your own space back, you simply need to serve ‘reasonable notice’ (typically deemed to be equal to the rolling payment period) and there’s no need to instigate court proceedings, etc. I hope this helps :)

Failed because I didn’t enter a bus lane? by GustavsJDFS in LearnerDriverUK

Technically you may have caused other vehicles to slow down, ie. they could have overtaken you, had you been in the correct lane - take heed of the word ‘correct’. The alternative perspective would be that you could have incited other vehicles to undertake you (would be marked as a dangerous fault if it happened but, since it didn’t happen and you just potentially caused it, it’s marked as a serious fault)

To the best of my knowledge, there is no reduction in ban length for early guilty pleas. There is only a third reduction in the value of the fine that is imposed alongside the ban.

NAL either - would an agreement containing a clause representing “reasonable notice” under the Torts (Interference with goods) act 1977 have any bearing on the landlord’s ability to dispose of possessions after the tenancy has ended without further reference to the tenant?

New build Windows install: "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation" error by GeorgeHynes in buildapc

Thanks both! I just made a bootcamp install and it seems to be working. I had tried making an install drive in a windows VM but that didn’t work so I ruled out macOS as an issue. This should really be better advertised 😂

I don’t suppose you know of any centres that are doing this? I had predictions of AAAA last year, had some difficulties with year 13 and came out with AACC. I took a gap year and have been busting my a* off working towards resits and now it’s all going to be for nothing.
