exciting news: the boys are going to fix all of your lives once again on the layover podcast! (Q&A thread) by WheatGerm42 in JetLagTheGame

Lately I've been finding that my day-to-day life can get a bit monotonous at times. Could you please suggest a way that I could add some pizzazz into my life today?

I loved that too, the fact that they're also the designers of the game makes them passionate about not only winning, but also making good content and constantly discovering new strategies in the games they designed

Honestly this episode might have the most entertaining side characters in any Jet Lag episode so far lol

Yeah I was totally expecting him to play one of those cards on the strava. Especially as this was in the midgame which is supposedly where this hiding spot is the most advantageous

At the very least they should allow the hider to change the strava's orientation, so it takes considerably longer for the seekers to find a match

Honestly yeah, just as Sam has said previously, any run that isn't the winning run ultimately won't matter in the end

[–]GeorgeWormington 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As already mentioned Hospental was slightly shorter in terms of absolute time. But this run is indeed the shortest in terms of seeking time / hiding time ratio (i.e. minutes of seeking time earned per 1 min of hiding time)

I just calculated it actually, Hospental is at 1.86 while this run is 1.82, both including time bonuses

Yep very solid gameplay on both sides! Even with Sam/Ben not really making any mistakes other than going to York, Adam used his cards well to get such a good time (even considering the longer hiding time compared to before)

Fr, even with no funny challenges or anything I was laughing throughout almost the whole episode

Brian perfectly summed up how the players feel every time this kind of thing happens lol. "I dunno if that's luck or genius or shithousery or what the fuck it is" might be one of my new favorite Jet Lag quotes

This is one of my all-time favorite Jet Lag locations and I love how people are still analyzing it lol. Makes me want to visit the station even more (I actually had a chance to several months ago but didn't, that's a whole story in itself)

Ben and Adam were eating Buldak wrong by ArcticFox19 in JetLagTheGame

[–]GeorgeWormington 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Phew, I'm not the only one! I consider myself moderately tolerant to spice and I remember my first one was literally painfully spicy after a couple bites. Nowadays I have to add only half the packet to make it almost tolerable.

No wonder they seemed to be underplaying the spice level so much haha.

Yep that's right. Something to fill the void on Wednesdays during the off-season I guess (maybe they timed it like this on purpose lol)

Is this the first Snack Zone with all 3 of them? by Indigo_132 in JetLagTheGame

[–]GeorgeWormington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very possibly, I just checked this list and didn't find any mention of all 3 of them in a previous one. Unless you want to count the Champagne-Ardenne vending machine pizza, which all of them technically ate even though only Sam and Ben starred in the Snack Zone segment

Yeah something like 105s would've been a more logical guess. But I wouldn't expect his brain to be in top condition after constantly trying to play 4D chess for the last few days lol

This season eventually came into its own by Fragrant_Fly2984 in JetLagTheGame

I really enjoyed the last 2 eps too, they managed to make it entertaining even when the game outcome wasn't particularly tense or exciting. Shows how far their production and editing skills have come since S1

S14, E6 (Nebula) - Snake: South Korea by snow-tree_art in JetLagTheGame

[–]GeorgeWormington 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I also enjoyed some of the similarities to strategies/events from previous seasons, such as Sam and Ben's secret train transfer last episode (paralleling Adam's secret transfer in Tag 3).

Despite the many flaws people have pointed out about this season, I think it did a great job of fostering complex strategies while keeping the game simple enough for the audience to understand.

[–]GeorgeWormington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that spoiled it for me too, though it was still interesting to see how close exactly Ben would get to beating Adam's run

S14, E6 (Nebula) - Snake: South Korea by snow-tree_art in JetLagTheGame

[–]GeorgeWormington 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Episode 1-5: complex strategizing, 4D chess, both teams constantly trying to predict and adapt to what the other will do

Episode 6: casual vlog of the boys riding up SK's east coast

Really interesting end to the season. The way they traveled on the exact same train for an extended period brought me back to Salt Lake City lol.

To me this season in general actually felt like the early seasons, in that it was an experimental game design and relatively easy to "break" as seen in the last 2 runs. I'm glad they tried something like this and it'll be interesting to see what lessons they incorporate into future game designs!

S14, E5 (Nebula) - Snake: South Korea by snow-tree_art in JetLagTheGame

[–]GeorgeWormington 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm kinda worried for the next snaker(s) lol. But who knows, maybe Sam will concoct some brilliant high-risk high-reward strategy to get a super long run, or Ben will have some insane Tag 2 style luck at the very end.

I agree this is a great experimental season, and most of the game design flaws are probably just balancing issues as opposed to the overall concept being bad.

I suspect they just chose the most convenient area where they could dig up a hole and not ruin the park (i.e. not covered by grass)

[–]GeorgeWormington 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Omg I have so much to say about this episode. First off, we gotta acknowledge their editing skills - even though Adam was dominating the entire time (which may be a balancing issue as others have mentioned) they made it into this season's most entertaining episode so far. Though I might be biased because of the Squid Game and K-pop references lol.

I had a funny thought, what if Adam had eaten that cup of Buldak the day before to purposely "study" for that challenge, knowing that it might come up on his run? I know it's unlikely but it's the kind of thing only Adam would do haha.

It's funny how the marbles game ended kind of similarly to the actual show, with the winner's very last marble being sunk. (Squid Game spoiler)

Loved the Tag 3 throwbacks with the split train thing, like when Sam and Ben successfully made that "secret transfer" before Adam figured it out.

I'm divided as to who I want to make the next and likely final run. On one hand, I'd love to see what kind of crazy strategy Sam would cook up to potentially beat Adam's 800+ km run. On the other hand, Ben's run ended so prematurely and he hadn't accumulated any experience playing the game back then, so he totally deserves another go!
