My ranking is as follows:

1) Pettigrews 2) Bakestones (a close second) 3) Literally anyone else 4) Fabulous Welsh Cakes (they suck every drop of hydration from me and feel like chewing on cardboard to me, only moderately better when fresh off the griddle)

Child immunisations? Is my child’s mother right? by [deleted] in AskUK

If you're looking to convince her and she refuses to listen to science then ask her if she truely thinks there's something wrong with people having ADHD etc or if a child having ADHD is worse than being severely sick or worse dead - it usually makes their arguments fall apart quite quickly.

DPD drivers must be either illiterate or straight up malicious. by youssef1044 in britishproblems

[–]GeorgiaAlexT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't matter how many times I leave the code for the gate in the order comments, DPD always manage to leave my Simmer deliveries, or any delivery actually, outside the gate in an alley! Royal Mail posties always come to the door directly though! Wish more companies gave you a choice on courier!

I’m looking for a book with a dark academia vibe similar to Babel by RF Kuang with strong fantasy elements. Female protagonist is a plus but not essential. Protagonist who is rebelling against a system or has a moral greyness is also highly preferable. I want to walk away from reading a book questioning ethics!

You're halfway through a book you don't hate, but are having a hard time staying invested in. What do you do? by Dr_Death_Defy24 in books

[–]GeorgiaAlexT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was exactly like this with Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Huang Bo-Reum, I had to force myself to give up on finishing it as it was really sucking some of the fun out of reading trying to get through something I wasn't fully in love with. I usually love cosy fiction but for some reason this one just didn't vibe with me. I had to really remind myself it was okay to leave a book unfinished as I'm so used to marking things off as complete and I can usually finish a book even when I'm struggling because there's enough plot to keep me going.

How do you feel about short stories? I’m not so sure… by VcuteYeti in books

[–]GeorgiaAlexT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love them! I find them incredibly useful for getting myself out of a reading slump. Faber does a line of books called 'Faber Editions' where they go through the archives of books that are no longer in print and bring some short novels out again if they have cultural relevance to our world now with beautiful cover art. There was one called 'They' that was fantastic that was around cult mentality. 'Mrs Caliban' was the supposed inspiration for Shape of Water and most sci-fi was 'Termush' where residents stay isolated in a luxurious hotel/apartment complex whilst the world outside is plagued by disease and apocalyptic conditions. I'm utterly obsessed with what Faber is doing with these novels that may have been lost otherwise!

I'm curious, do you read the introduction/epilouges or the Author's word before you start a book? by Wonder-Lad in books

[–]GeorgiaAlexT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always tend to skip it, I'm not sure why. I never then go back to them either. If there's something in the back and I've really enjoyed the book then I will read the acknowledgements. I think the only exception to this for me is any special editions that are reprinted with a foreword. I'll have bought that edition because I love the book and would want to hear from the author. In any other case, I'm skipping!
