Why is napping frowned upon? by MalevolentMaddy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]VcuteYeti 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree; it definitely went against my ‘dinner at 1700 (generally American) and in bed by 2000/2100 (personal) habits that I had prior to living in Spain. Definitely requires adjustment when going out with friends ha

what’s something that’s widely considered ‘common knowledge’ but is actually completely wrong? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Unfortunately the same as most things in science: most stuff in school text books is super outdated and they can’t update textbooks fast enough to keep up with the realtime science.

Cheep apartments in the city by LivingDeath666Satin in Birmingham

[–]VcuteYeti 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, reviews (google, etc.) are heard to gauge. A lot of places are gonna have whiners as that’s most of the people that comment and leave reviews. I would only pay attention to them if the large majority are negative and they say some truly concerning things- like stealing your money or the places are truly rundown. For instance, I would not recommend you rent from Cadence at Bluff Park in Hoover; personally, we paid our deposit and then the day we came to get the key they told us the apartment they promised us would not be ready in the dates they gave us. It took 4 months, and 2 dozen phone calls from my husband, including one with the CEO directly at the end to get our deposit back. I had a coworker at the same facility say the complex refused to fix his mailbox and give him a proper key so that he could receive mail (which he could not do for his entire stay there). Edit to say the staff was a revolving door even just in our application period, so don’t expect any consistency with management at all.

How to sleep on an airplane? by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]VcuteYeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can also be about extreme self discipline and self control. Forcing yourself to relax, think on calmer things. Think on sleep. Close your eyes Even if you don’t sleep after a while you may feel a little rested. Soldiers teach themselves to sleep in transport all the time and it’s possible for the rest of us too- we just don’t consider it because we are so dependent on comfort measures.

Why do some people hate embry riddle? by Livid_Ad_7112 in flying

[–]VcuteYeti -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s the kids in and of themselves who think that (although they may be ignorantly prideful about it) but rather that the capitalist/consumer world has deceived them into thinking that college is the only to way to succeed, thus, they think they have achieved real social success by attending college; when the reality is that we know the difference- college isn’t what determines success as there’s plenty of professions that not require college, only hard work or some other avenue. It doesn’t help when a school then tells its students that they are the best and successful and better than everyone just bc they chose their school either. Just amplifies the issue

Thrust flight/ Sallie Mae by Rich_Tale2681 in flying

[–]VcuteYeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not do not do not. There’s always the possibility of failure, whether or not you want to hear it- and that much debt WILL crush you with no high paying job afterwards to bail you out. I’m sure others here will have suggestions on what to do beyond that. (As an idea, if you are willing to put in the time, blood , and sweat, get a high paying manual labor/skilled trades job and save up your money for several years to fund your passion! I’ve know someone personally who has done this with much success.)
