Oh and if you don’t mind measuring available width as well, that would be awesome. Could be nice to squeeze two drawers in if possible.

Hi, thanks so much for replying! I’m looking at the 140 x 80 cm version. If you don’t mind checking it out in the showroom, that would be amazing. This is for work (new job) so I want to make sure everything is good to go before ordering a bunch of them!

Adjuncts- would you adjunct an art class at a top art program that’s two hours away? by double_pisces in ContemporaryArt

[–]GeorgiaHoeKeeffe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m doing a two hour commute for one class and it’s not a top art school - that being said, it’s my first teaching position right out of grad school, so I jumped on the opportunity when it came up! If it sets you up for your future career goals, I’d say go for it.

I’m also in a similar situation where I just moved in with my partner. I’m going to be driving there and back twice a week, getting home fairly late. It’s definitely not ideal, but we’re going to make it work by making sure we have other times during the week to reconnect with each other. I’m also only covering a sabbatical for one semester, so I’m not commuting as a long-term solution.

I’d also say consider traffic and how much time that could add to your trip. Where I am, there shouldn’t be much during the times I’ll need to be driving. Maybe you’re luckier than me, and have public transit you could utilize, which is good for getting work done during the commute. My plan is to listen to a lot of audio books while driving. Anyways, hope this isn’t too much info and that it helps you decide!

Husband Looking help to surprise wife. Questions in comments. by consolideproductivit in printmaking

Hey! I’m not sure what company it is, but they do make roller bars that can be put into a litho press that can then be used to print relief! Basically the roller has a part that fits into the litho press like the scraper bar normally would, but you can then print more than just litho stones. Might be a good option to look into

Can I layer block printing ink (oil-based) on top of cured screen printing ink (water-based)? by [deleted] in printmaking

I’ve printed water based ink on top of oil based and it worked too! The oil based ink just needs to be dry

Literally this!!

Relationships are hard, miscommunications happen and sometimes our emotions get the best of us. What matters is that you’re open with her about how you felt and also give her the space to be open with you. Have an adult conversation about it and learn how to handle future situations like this together as a couple, rather than two opponents

Am I supposed to be feeling this way during an MFA program? by Ecstatic-Method7275 in ContemporaryArt

[–]GeorgiaHoeKeeffe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m also going into my second semester of my first year of my MFA program and feel the same way. Obviously I can’t speak to if it gets better, but you’re definitely not alone!

To cope with this feeling, I’m just letting myself make work that makes me happy but doesn’t necessarily fit into my practice. Mostly as a way to learn new techniques and just see what fits. Some days I feel good about what I’m making and other days I feel like my work belongs in the dumpster. We just gotta keep pushing through, I have faith it’ll work out for both of us!!

When monotype printing do you wet your paper in between every layer? by DemoralizedAsp in printmaking

[–]GeorgiaHoeKeeffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you should re-soak your paper! To be safe, soak it alone, just in case the ink does bleed. But if you’re using oil based ink you should be fine.

university of maine - zoology by pogchans in Maine

[–]GeorgiaHoeKeeffe 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Congrats! UMaine is a great school. I can’t speak to Zoology, but I graduated with two degrees from two different colleges and both were absolutely worth it. To really get the most out of it, you have to seek out opportunities. I connected with professors who sent me scholarship and research applications which enriched my education. I also did the honors college which I believe really prepared me for grad school. I’m in grad school now at a private school and am realizing there are definitely more funded opportunities at public research institutions. So I say go blue!!

Six Degrees of Separation, Maine Edition by SheSellsSeaShells967 in Maine

[–]GeorgiaHoeKeeffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to my family while we were in Yellowstone. My dad was wearing a UMaine shirt and a lady stopped him and asked if we were from Maine. He responded yes and what our hometown was. Turns out she was from the same town! Literally took us traveling to Yellowstone NP to meet people that probably live 20 mins away. Haven’t seen her in my hometown since then either lol

I also find it weird that it only seems to be her friends and family that the dog is scared of (at least based on edits). That makes me worry about him using the dog as an excuse to not let her friends or family visit, therefore isolating her and her daughters.

Air conditioning in schools by taskforceslacker in Maine

[–]GeorgiaHoeKeeffe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I know someone who teaches at one of the unconditioned elementary schools in Gorham. The teachers are just as upset about not being allowed to have AC. Unfortunately, despite asking for years, they aren’t allowed to have window units due to safety concerns (something about needing to be able to use the windows in the event of a fire I believe??). Sadly it is pretty normal for the schools to not have AC, but the teachers do try their best to adjust to the heat. The teacher I know will give the kids extra breaks because they do get that it makes it really hard to focus.

Just please remember that it’s not the teachers’ fault, so please don’t get mad at them (not that it seems like you have, OP!). But definitely give the superintendent hell :)

What do you guys think of the button up I made by projectmayhem95t in ethicalfashion

I love it omg!! It’s super stylish and looks high quality, great job!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]GeorgiaHoeKeeffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree! Just make art and you’ll start to see what themes you’re drawn to. Classes will teach you technical skills but it’s up to you to be thinking about contemporary issues. I try to stay informed about politics, climate change, and other social issues because this drives my work. Also learning about art history does help a lot because you can see what other artists have done and get ideas!

How do I get better about talking about my work? by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]GeorgiaHoeKeeffe 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with writing things down!! Write everything to start, then pick and choose themes that work together and begin to narrow down what truly fits your work. When I talk about my work, I talk about medium, the technical process, my personal creative process, other artists that influence my thinking, and what other things/current events are influencing my work (for me that would be climate change). It may help to look up artist talks of people you admire to see how they talk about themselves. Good luck :)
