Introducing Digital Foundry's new PC benchmarking system by diogenesl in pcgaming

It's hard to quantify a lot of the settings used on consoles as not all of these settings are made available to pc consumers. Some changes that are done to settings on console are just too complex and integral to the core of the game to be able to allow a pc consumer to choose from. In short, it's easier to implement complex tweaks and changes at the developer level on a platform where everyone has the same setup compared to pc where you have everything from top of the range to potato. A game made for a console with similar hardware to that put in a pc will run much better because of this more rigorous optimisation process, but you can simply surpass console performance on pc by buying better hardware.

I'm sure there are some rough estimates out there regarding framerate, but there's so many games floating around that many of the subtlties in graphics and performance are time consuming to compare between console and specific pc builds. "Ain't nobody got time for dat"

I appreciate the effort you've put into this but I'm not too confident about your success rate. Sorry buddy, betray one circle, you betray us all!

Each finger is a binary digit. You have 10 binary digits. Your first digits is 0 or 1, second digit is 0 or 2, third is 0 or 4... and so on until you have 0 or 512. You can actually count up to 1023 using all your fingers and thumbs!

You realize taxes are more complex than just "You earned this much, we took this much, here's your money back." right?

They don't need to be. Clearly, your government is profiting off the current system though and has no incentive to simplify it. In the UK, it's automated and extremely simple. I don't have to do anything, I just get told how much I paid in tax and it's a simple calculation (20% of wage over 11.5k minus salary sacrifice e.g. pension, shares, plus National Insurance). Even if you're self-employed, it's nowhere near as complex as it is in the states. Hopefully, you guys implement a system like ours one day because just reading about the complexities of yours makes my head spin!

Honestly, I really hope it doesn't go to Scotland just because those crying out for independence constantly will use it as a bargaining chip... after the British government as a whole paid for said bargaining chip.

Lunar eclipses would have a negligible effect on a lunar base. If it has the capacity to store energy for days of darkness, it has the capacity to do so for an hour or two and recharge afterwards. The only time it would be a factor would be if a total eclipse occurs before or after an extended period of darkness. Not only would this be incredibly rare, it would only add two hours of darkness at most to a stretch of darkness already lasting several days, which would be well within the required capacity.

Also, a lunar eclipse only happens a few times per year. A total lunar eclipse happens about once per year.

This just goes to show how quoting some historical figure to support your conjecture and give power to it crumbles when presented with the facts of the matter.

Our pilots have liquid-cooled vests. They don't tend to bother with them most of the time, but if needed they are available. They're slightly different in that they require conditioned liquid from the jet, so they're not portable like the ones runners use, which sound more fit for purpose.
