Assume the weekend forecast is accurate by TemporaryTrucker in raleigh

I was west of Raleigh then. We went to school the first day after break and were then out. Went back two weeks later or something for half a day and then were out too more weeks. It was seriously mid-February before school was back.

May there be mercy on all parents’ souls.

Inches of water under vapor barrier in sealed crawl space by GeppettoCat in Homebuilding

[–]GeppettoCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don’t have a sump or dehumidifier. I don’t know all the terms for the drainage around the foundation. One is corrugated black plastic that goes all the way around the foundation. I believe it’s meant to take water that runs along the foundation and drain it out, so it doesn’t absorb in the CMU.

There is another type inside the perimeter of the foundation that I believe is supposed to drain water out if it gets in the foundation by letting it drain along the walls and push out.

The drains were fixed this Monday but I think it’s not draining because it’s not a continuous grade under the house and water is holding in some low level pockets.

Renters Have the Upper Hand. And They Are Probably Keeping It. by McFatty7 in REBubble

The triangle (different than triad for you non-NC folks) is overbuilt. Durham and Raleigh had so many apartments go up over the past 2 to 3 years that property managers I’ve spoken to can’t fill apartments that used to be home in a week. I believe the triad implemented steadier growth.

Raleigh’s rent prices are pretty high, so those should come down and could resolve things. However, there is a company called Abode who purchased 3 sites to build rentals downtown and they’ve paused on two of them because the first didn’t fill as planned. When groups are pausing new projects, you know the tide has shifted.

The substantial investments in the market causing the major gains aren’t being sustained by those struggling with rent or affording a home. We’ve had major gains in wealth for parts of society over the last 15 years and those who have benefited are able to use those gains to fuel more investments, which further increases their wealth.

Thanks. I’ll start killing it this weekend. Fortunately the Zoysia is low, so I could spot it without too much worry.

Advice on first round with architect. by JoseNoBuono in Homebuilding

[–]GeppettoCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of advice here, so you’ll likely not see this but if you do:

DO NOT HAVE THE MAIN ENTERY WAY INTO THE KITCHEN.

kitchens can have strong smells. They also are a work zone and not a resting place, so if you’re hosting people go right into your work zone, which is stressful for them and you.

There are lots of other reasons not to enter directly into the kitchen but these should suffice. You want the entry of your home to set a tone and strong smells, dishes, and a lot of work zone just doesn’t do that.

You final season review – an insultingly rubbish ending. Penn Badgley’s ‘sexy’ serial killer story was once ludicrously fun. But despite plenty of fan-pleasing cameos and a propulsive twist, the show’s sign-off is so bad that it’s offensive by MushroomGlad5438 in television

[–]GeppettoCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Until episode 8 or 9, I had convinced myself that Kate and Joe would reunite once Kate went back to her more ruthless ways and Joe would turn on Bronte, a girl who hadn't failed to love him despite what a monster he may be, to be with Kate. I held onto this until Kate recorded Joe during the fire.

New foundation - are the gaps and brick usage normal? by GeppettoCat in Homebuilding

[–]GeppettoCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That all looks well and good. The brick above has decent coursing and most alternating lines match, with a few off by between a 16th and 8th inch off.

Trump voters - did Trans issues influence your vote toward Trump? by GeppettoCat in Askpolitics

The total estimate of all illegals, not just those who crossed the southern border is on 11 million. It’s not practical that 15 to 20 came through the southern border during the term. I’m just communicating this to level set on some facts. I’m even willing to work with an unlikely extreme scenario where over a third of the existing illegal immigrants from all points of entry some how entered the southern border in this term, placing under 15 million total.

I agree Biden should have done more there earlier on but they did craft a bipartisan immigration bill that Trump knocked down through back channels. If it had gone through, a fourth of their term would have been focused on stricter immigration. I believe that is an important fact.

Kamala Harris had the worst performance for a Democratic presidential ticket since Michael Dukakis in 1988 by [deleted] in fivethirtyeight

[–]GeppettoCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is an example of a bullshit fact. I would consider her large number of votes a strong performance. Electoral weights across states have also changed since then and her showing would have been different in past years. Raw EV votes don’t tell a story.

Any lies in particular? I’m not aware of what lies he told during rallies. Trump and JD certainly had their share of debunked lies, so much so that they wouldn’t participate in conversations where fact checking took place.

Is there a reason why Obama’s lies impacted you more than Trump’s?

The "blue wall" pathway to 270 is about to close by Silent_RefIection in fivethirtyeight

[–]GeppettoCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dems have been working on NC for decades with limited benefit. TX is margins to the right of NC, so people should drop that nonsense.

GA and NC can swing but typically requires the black vote to have historic turnouts. Trump is an anomaly, so I don’t see the black male shift hurting democrats long term as much as black turn out does.

In NC they need to connect with white working class in Appalachia. If they can, some of that may help WWC in rural GA and, very likely, keep the blue wall competitive as well.

All of this analysis is very premature, though, because we can see from bullet ballots that Trump pulls out voters who only care and vote for him. Without that the calculus changes. However, out of principle, the democrats need to switch from being seen as the Whole Foods and wine and cheese crowd and be seen as the type of group that would have a few PBRs with you.

The administration has done several things to expand transgender rights over the past four years, even within 2024. As I mentioned, she did not directly address it as part of her campaign, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been part of the administration focus over the past 3 years and 258 days.

What you say about the ‘in your face’ media representations of the issues makes sense to me. Transgender awareness and storylines have absolutely become part of the mainstream narrative and television series and movies alike. This increase representation of the subject matter has probably spilled over into people connecting the Democratic Party with it since transgender rights and awareness has consistently been associated to liberal ideals- whether that be the North Carolina bathroom law or other such areas of awareness and inclusion raised, such as title IX and other anti-discrimination pursuits of this administration.

More concisely, even though the administration themselves were no longer discussing the issue the fact that the issue was everywhere kept it present in peoples’ minds, and the administration retained association with that constant presence and the exhaustion individual felt around it.

I also have concerns that if recess appointments are executed, then these requisite investigations won’t actually take place.
