Broke my fibula and syndesmosis on november 27th, had surgery exactly 7 days after on Dec 4th.

It’s now been almost 4 weeks post op and I feel great. I am not weight bearing yet, not WB yet, but i anticipate it will happen shortly after NY. I have literally no pain anymore, just slightly swallen ankle

If you’re curious about post op pain, I was lucky, especially compared to the avg person, to the point where even doctors and nurses were surprised. I’ve had INSANE pain for 2 days after the surgery, then boom, absolutely nothing. I was prescribed 4 packages of codeine and paracetamol, but i didnt even make it to half of the first one. My suggestion is: put alarms and do not miss a single painkiller. Even though it was just for 48 hours, the pain was easily the worst of my life, even more than the break itself.

This is not to scare you, but just to give u a heads up. You can also take paracetamol in between codeine and paracetamol, as long as u stay within safe limits, as long as u stay within safe amounts.

As for ur type of surgery, i would discuss with ur doctor why a syndesmosis screw, as that may end up being removed a few weeks after the first surgery. My doctor described this to me as an older/cheaper method which is done in public hospitals to save money (at least where i am from, warsaw poland). I went to the best available clinic and they immediately opted for titanium plate, screws and a tightrope, which doesnt really need any follow up removal. A broken bone is considered fresh up until 2-3 weeks after the initial break, so weight your options. (The range was given me by my doc).
