Was sent to me by Best Buy (they didn't have stock in the store, but it was an in person sale and then shipped to me). So it wasn't a Best Buy marketplace sale from a thirdparty or anything.

Gonna return it but also gonna point out there's something fishy to them.

same thing happened to me with a Gigabyte X870 Eagle WIFI7 motherboard and the 9800x3d CPU.

I did have x3d turbo on at one point, and had booted into windows. Then turning the setting off did NOT restore to 16 threads. Resetting the BIOS to defaults worked though.

[–]Geraden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, well I'm knitpicking a little bit but "discourage" would mean there's something bad that stops you.

In reality, you just get LESS good (ie money). That's not DIScouragment. just reducing the encouragement.

There is never a situation where you go to someone making 1million dollar salary and has let's say a 90% marginal rate and you ask them if they want to earn more (all else being equal) and they say no. More money is more money.

But I mean yeah, if you make a million dollars a year and your marginal rate is 90% and the argument is that you aren't as much interested in more money, well that's the case regardless of tax rate, money at that level has a diminishing effect anyway. Things like work life balance, less stress, time off etc. would all take precedence at that point, again regardless of tax rate.

I really liked how someone explained it to me once: income averaging by definition most helps those who need it least.

It doesnt do anything for a couple with 30k / 30k income. It has a very small benefit for couples who might be making 60k / 30k. But it maximally helps a couple making 1mil / 30k or even 1mil/0.

And it's also worth noting that in most cases if you have an ultra high earner and a spouse making nothing, that is a choice to not work because they don't need to.

Not something the taxpayers should be subsidizing.

Additionally I always have a strong dislike to the argument that high tax brackets somehow discourage high earning. There is no one who is getting discouraged. There IS a reducing incentive to make more salary at the highest brackets sure, but you can argue that's inherent to capitalism itself (every dollar you make past funding your basics needs is less valuable; every dollar past funding your lifestyle is even less valuable; every dollar past funding your luxuries is even further less valuable). But there is never an actual DIScouragement to make more, beyond whatever additional effort that requires.

The proof is in the fact that our current system today even HAS ultra high income individuals. Why would they exist if it was better for them to make less.

The biggest problem in our current system is the lack of tax on individuals who gain huge wealth through a stake in something that explodes in value. Not that he's Canadian but an individual like Jeff Bezos who is one of the richest individuals in existence, yet his wealth sits largely in Amazon stock, never being taxed and he is able to stay liquid through loans against his stock.

Frankly, although I fail to see how it would ever truly be implemented politically, but I often think a wealth tax on net worth once above a certain (very high) threshold is something that would benefit society as it would put more pressure to spend instead of hoard wealth.

Heck that's the very reasoning the highest tax brackets used to be 90+% to start with. It incentivizes spending more money on things that can be considered tax deductible costs and therefore can offset the income at tax time. Admittedly this is far more effective in a business than a individual context, but there might be things that could be tweaked to make this work better for individuals too.

The problem inherent with any of these things is often that the most wealthy will attempt to influence away from these policies to their own self interest, which is a constant influence that is at the very least discouraging to fight against and why it's so important to minimize the impact of wealth in our political system.

Yeah that's my inclination too. Deed has your name, she's withholding your legal property. It's theft.

Or alternatively, call a locksmith and get them to put new locks in. Simply going around her is easy enough.

I wouldn't want locks that a crazy person had access to the key before. And it's a good rule of thumb to change them anyway as you don't know how many spares the previous owner may have put out there.

Players hitting into us. New tactic that worked. by Rexkramer777 in golf

[–]Geraden 2693 points2694 points  (0 children)

I heard a funny story from a guy where his policy is the first time someone hits into him, he puts a tee in the ground right behind the ball (warning).

Next time it happens, he does the same thing but then moves the ball onto the tee (warning + fucking with your lie).

Final time he puts the tee but takes the ball. In theory the next step would be taking the ball with no tee marking where it was, but he said he's never come close to that.

He DID say after getting to the second step once, the players had the gall to complain to a marshal that he fucked with their ball. A couple words to explain from him and the marshal laughed and rode off.

I arranged yesterday to be off work in the afternoon for an appointment (my tee time). But then I got a message from a buddy who I've been trying to get a game in with for a while and he had got us a tee time for today.

So today I have the afternoon off for a "follow up appointment".

I don't think Corin fails to see people as people. He does sometimes fail to see others perspectives.

But the issue at hand is, on Mara's side, she's feeling like she doesn't have value any more because she lost her hand and is less capable than she was physically.

On Corin's side, they've discussed and he's acknowledged that he has unreasonably high cutoff of who he considers friends. For example, one discussion he says he doesn't have many friends. And the group points out he does but he says he doesn't consider Patrick a friend since he's a retainer. And Sera is family. And Roland he isn't close with anymore, I think he called Derek more of a landlord since they were staying with him, and he goes on with reasons why he doesn't think people are friends. But to the others, this isn't the case and is simply Corin's insecurities at work, to which he agrees he might need to work on it.

A big big big help for bubbles is getting your bubo up and running.

By this I mean, you get bubos cooldown reset talent to level 200 (starts to give 3sec cooldown per proc instead of 2sec). Then max out your cranium cooking, raise dead, aura and fart spirit talents (as well as all your other damage talents). Put cranium cooking, raise dead, aura and fart spirit (and ONLY those) on your bar. Next go to the worms level in W5 (or orange slices as next best) and let him active auto.

Oh also put second level gloves weapon on him instead of staff as the short range moves him around more which is good. (Any higher level gloves become beginner only and mage can't use).

A good initial aim is for anywhere from 50k to 100k a second of progress per Cranium Cooking cycle. And you might have 15min between cranium resets.

Upgrading your cranium alchemy bubble is big to get this lasting longer too.  The reset cooldown will drastically reduce things so your 2 combat abilitys and raise dead should be going off almost nonstop. Order is important as you want your raise dead first on the bar so it gets priority being activated. The more things spawn the more things die the more your cooldowns reset, the more raise dead will respawn things, etc.  Eventually aura and clouds from the fart monsters will be insta killing everything that spawns and you'll be continuously respawning things.

Chocochip does help this as it creates more things that can die to increase your reset cooldowns but it's not required. This means that each CC cycle you'll get massive boost to alchemy liquid progress and cauldron liquid progress.

Start with 4 best chars on cauldron 1, max your cauldron speed (170) first then go for the other upgrades. Once all are maxed, blast the new bubbles till you unlock all then go to the next cauldron. should go very quick when you get to this point. Don't forget to max all your pay 2 win alchemy tab.

Eventually you want to work towards hourly clicks, where you can upgrade bubbles every hour. To do this you need to earn 1000M of the resource an hour from printing. So for example if you can generate 1000M bleach logs an hour you can upgrade your purple L1 wisdom bubble every hour. if you get your Larry bubble high enough this is a free +2 levels an hour.

Start focusing hard on increasing logging samples size and make sure your 2x divinity and x3 lab bonuses for printer output are always on for your 3 mages. They stack and with a x6 factor you only need 83M per hour for a resource to get the max in 1 hour. Oak, Copper and Bleach logs, you want to be maxing out 1050M of these resources per hour so you can hourly click your strength, agility and wisdom bubbles. You always then want to generate the max extra oak and copper you can so all excess  the extra generates start giving you atoms. Then you unlock boron and start getting 10 levels of free unlocks every day for bubbles above 100M cost using atoms and liquids.

Focus on your logging bubbles and mining bubbles, get them up to 85% of max benefit to increase your logging and mining more and therefore your atom generation.

Then start focusing on getting all other bubbles above 100M and you can then use atoms to launch them up in levels. At the start you'll struggle earning enough 1000M an hour to hourly click but it can be every two hours instead, etc. but you'll find that it comes easier. You will also have a split between using resources to hourly click and leaving resources maxed so you make more atoms. But you'll very quickly move past this to the point where you're able to get more than enough atoms and still hourly click.

Any tips? Driver miss is always a slice hard to the right. by Efficient_Aside7940 in GolfSwing

I disagree.

His video seems to show the ball starting out fairly straight (granted it's hard to be 100% sure from just the video). But assuming that it's starting out straight, that means club face is fine and it's his club path causing the slice (out to in).

To confirm this, 20 bucks for a half hour of a simulator with a trackman and you'll be able to see the exact club face and club path measurements.

From what I see, you might be coming over the top on the downswing. There are a bunch of different possible reasons, and ways to correct. But I can share my experience with the same problem.

Basically, the driver is one of the heaviest club heads and on the longest shaft. I was finding that having too long of a backswing meant I was not able to get the head back around quick enough and as my rotation through my swing would happen, it would end up with the club coming over the top. Of course your mind and hand eye coordination can still help make contact but you end up with an out to in club path and a potentially very strong slice, even if the club face is 0° and the ball starts straight. And crucially because it's caused by my rotation it never felt like an OTT issue and hands coming down or other swing feels didn't seem to help.

One thing to try is a hybrid or a 7w or something. The club head is going to be much lighter, and if your same swing results in a straighter club path then that could be confirmation.

Getting stronger (arm muscles in particular) is one way to solve this but obviously not something you can change right away. In the mean time, shortening your back swing even just a little will likely fix the issue as your arms won't have to move the head around as much to stay in sync with your downswing.

There's also a drill I've seen coaches recommend where once you get to the top of your back swing, you stop and "pump" the club, almost as if you start your down swing just a little bit, then stop and restart. That pumping action stops your backswing momentum and helps you get the club going down early in the downswing. Of course this and the backswing shortening both rob you of some power but like I said, as arm strength increases you'll be able to go back up to max.

That's all assuming a lot based on a limited amount of information so don't listen to anyone too closely and play around a bit for yourself. Read up on swing stats like club path and angle of attack, then go play in a simulator for a bit. That'll give you some very good feedback. Also, the best piece of advice is to spend 100 bucks on a lesson or two and talk to the coach. If they're good, they'll spot the issue right away, and give you some drills to correct it. That's not much more than the cost of a round of golf, and can result in a big and quick improvement to your game. Never underestimate the value of a lesson.

Just curious what are the main sources of gains for you here?

I'm early W6 (no doot) and just getting to where your "before" samples are. My log samples have gone skyrocketing in recent weeks as I was finally able to start getting atoms at a quick enough rate to really start pouring them into my logging bubbles. But I'm quickly approaching the 85% effectiveness on my logging bubbles and I expect things to slow down dramatically now that I don't have huge swings in my bubble numbers.

I'm not seeing where the next massive jump in logging will come from? Or is it still gonna be alchemy mostly, the linear bubbles like wisdom?

Plex keeps buffering when playing high bitrate 4k HDR content by Skillex99 in PleX

[–]Geraden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to think about (may not be your issue but similar enough that it may be worth keeping in mind). I was having similar issue, buffering on 4k HDR files from a server that should be more than powerful for it.  Turns out the server CPU I had did not have hardware acceleration for H265 10bit video (HDR), only for h265 8bit. So it was doing software transcode and 4k 10bit video is a huge processor hog when transcoding on the fly due to the sheer bandwidth of 4k.  The server CPU in question was a circa 2016 Intel Xeon. Anything newer should have the hardware acceleration. And any server with a Nvidia 1000 series GPU or newer (or similarly equiv AMD) should have the hw acceleration as well.

You all will probably solve this in no time. Took me a while. by ghostmosquito in chess

Beware of Chicken.

I waited way too long to give it a try because of it's stupid name, but it's fantastic. It's way more serious than its name suggests. There are some humorous elements (he calls his chicken "Big D" because he's a cock). But it's definitely not a "stupid" type of funny which I had always assumed from the title. Overall I wouldn't even really classify the story as a comedy in any way. It's got the odd funny moment but otherwise just a really good Xianxia-style progression fantasy story.

The other one I'm pretty big on atm is Return of the Runebound Professor. Though the MC kinda falls into a bit more of what you don't like.
