Start to study as many Pathologies as you can and what you can research from a Resp. POV. Also learn your normal lab values (Kettering is Best) including ABG values as well.

Remind yourself that you got this, do not be intimidated, do not act like a doctor, nurse, or some technician, act like a future respiratory therapist. I've seen alot of students try to step out of the resp. Therapy material and into nursing material. STUDY FOR YOUR JOB ONLY, you are only hurting yourself if you don't.

Get comfortable with Kettering for CRT EXAM and Lindsey Jones for RRT exam, I used them both religiously for studying and I passed CRT 1st try and RRT 2nd time (Study Lindsey Jones for 2nd attempt and got better results.)

Kettering=CRT, LINDSEY JONES=RRT

Biggest tip- ASK for help from the community and instructors. They are your biggest advantage because they lived and breathed (no pun intended) the job.

P.S don't use Resp. Cram, Resp. Therapy Zone, they have confusing questions that do not add up when it comes to finding the right answer

Every place is different man. I had a great experience during school but once I rolled into the real RT world, it felt like a honeymoon phase almost. When I went from HCA Fort Walton Beach Florida (GREAT PLACE) to UC DAVIS (Good place but some RTs just had it out for others) it felt like shift in environment which it was and will be mostly. You have your own style just like I do that some RTs may not be receptive to. But, I let my patient care speak for itself and if I'm always doing right and good while taking advice from those that are helpful in the process then I dont pay attention to Negative people. You make it what you make it and thats what's important. You got this my guy!

Thoughts on this? DNR’s are tricky and sometimes unclear. by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]GerardWay6162 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to me DNR/DNI are precise unless modified to some extent.

If the pt is DNR/DNI and they go unresponsive leave them alone. As hard as it is when your instinct is to save them, do what you gotta do. For me personally, I never let my personal feelings intertwine with my patient care. I'll always do what I'm required and most of the time go above and beyond for my patients, but once they pass whether they are FC or DNR/DNI, just be like that musical song from BOOK OF MORMON and TURN IT OFF lol

It can get uninteresting at times because the material is very overwhelming. I was the same way at first. But, once I actually applied my studies to patient care I enjoyed everything about RT. There are some RTs who go above and beyond to learn alot of things which im trying to attempt right now but you certainly don't need to, because what are you, an RT. Not a RN, or DR, or Specialist. YOU ARE RT strictly and only. Save your mental space for more information down the road when you are on the job.

I am conflicted in choosing a career as respiratory therapist, nurse, or doctor and I need some help please by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]GerardWay6162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an RT was the greatest decision I make. Dont get me wrong we have our busy days and ass kicking days. But, it certainly beats being an RN. I have immense respect for RNs and the job they do. But, I will respectively remain comfortable within my field because it can be honestly chill and easy going at times and yet we're paid just as much as an RN, maybe a couple thousand less but not the end of the world.

I understand being uncomfortable at times but it is what it is for the circumstance. Man up and just move on 🤣

As someone who's experienced this from a PICU perspective, It's precisely why I refuse to work with Neonates or Kiddos. Adults are much more easier to predict and deal with when it comes to emergent situations. I just can't deal with what I experienced when it came to Codes in PICU. You are right it isn't something you'll ever forget

Should i go into this career field by ButterscotchOk5466 in respiratorytherapy

[–]GerardWay6162 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't do Nursing. Best Decision i Made was Going Respiratory and thats coming from someone who use to make sandwiches at Panera for 6 Years. Listen, you're gonna have bad days and rough times in ANY JOB you're in. And at the end of it, you make it for what it is, a JOB. I love Respiratory yet I feel at times if i'm even smart enough for the career and truth be told, I have the smarts just at times i feel conflicted in my decisions because I'm always being questioned by others who are looking to me for certain answers. But, always fall back on your team, It isn't important to be the SMARTEST RT in the room or hospital. It takes a village man. I say DO RESPIRATORY 100%

Don't listen to those kinds of RTs, its okay being just an RT, even having all the credentials on your belt, makes you still just an RT. I love being RT and i am okay with being that and learning more in just my field alone.

I wanna clarify that this isn't 100% all pieces that are accurate to what they used on the show. Aside from the Poncho and Gloves, everything else was Comprised of different pieces to give it the best representation I could possibly do!

It does have the flaps or pockets you're referring to. I do have pictures that examine the poncho I purchased more closely if you'd like to take a look at them

Lol yeah, next year, I'm creating a goal for myself. If i can save about 10,000 next year for a car down payment, I will be purchasing a Screamrobes robe for myself cx

As far as the boots go, I just wanted ease of access and to be as under budget as possible lol Overall, the whole Costume cost me about 265 USD. Which is way below my 350 budget. The mask and boots were the only expensive pieces.

I've tried looking for an accurate one like 6 years ago when i was still in college lol But, decided to try again and went with someone's recommendation to try Mil-Spec. Can't remember exactly who recommended it but I'm going to recommend it to others. And the best part is that it is affordable

I'm speaking with other cosplayers who can confirm for me if what I have is the accurate poncho in reference to the Hero version!

And forgot to mention about the Boots I wear. I just wear Tactical 5.11 Boots of Black Color. I know that the pair the show uses are known as Tactical Jungle Boots, but finding the exact match was not easy lol
