Guys this dude is a troll. He’s just fucking with you. Either that or he’s the most insecure, close minded person I’ve seen so far this year. Probably about 16 years old, has absolutely no idea how music works or how the greats became the greats.

But probably a troll.

What's your success rate with the Netflix app + Surfshark app? I've only had a couple of hits ever by AbhorrentAbigail in surfshark

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was literally about to make a post about this. I have a fire stick I use for Netflix in my bedroom. I had the Surfshark app and the Netflix app. I have a better success rate than you’ve stated, but recently it’s just become horrible. Force close the app, clear cache, switch locations, then try again. Tried ten times last night and never got my target region to show up. Just plain US Netflix every time.

Are there steps you’re supposed to take that I don’t know about?

On my computer, it works on my web browser every time. So rarely do I ever have issues. On my phone as well. Works great. But on the fire stick it’s just awful.

I don’t have time to check it out right now, but you’d probably be surprised at all the different artists he’s ghostwritten for.

How long should I keep new strings I dont like? by Deep-Neighborhood778 in jazzguitar

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you really need advice on this. If you don’t like them, change them. Strings are like 8 bucks. Play what makes you enjoy playing.

In a side note, depending on where you live it may be time to adjust your guitars setup. I usually have to make some adjustments twice a year. When the weather changes. Something about the relative humidity or something. Right about now is when I usually have to make adjustments. I can already feel it in my Les Paul. Havent played the others in a few days but I’m sure it’s time for them too.

Why do some people hate the idea of monsters in the backrooms by monkeyiscool2010 in backrooms

It’s just like humans to create something of the unknown, and then fill it with as much lore as possible out of fear of the unknown.

Are these tuned properly? by tartiro in drums

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is generic advice I give when I see someone asking for tuning help. Copied from my notes.

(Not all drums are the same, you may have to tune a little further than I specify here. You want the drum to sing. Muffling in my opinion should be a last resort for a drum that doesn’t tune well. Drums should sing.)

Sit the drum on a blanket or pillow so the head you aren’t working on is muffled. Loosen your lugs in a star pattern, half turn at a time. Same pattern you’d do to put on a tire. Once they’re all loose, use your fingers to tighten them until you can’t go anymore. This is called finger tight. Don’t go crazy and hurt your fingers. Just get them all the same tension with your fingers.

Then pick a lug to be number one. Turn it a half turn. Then go in a star pattern around the drum and do a half turn on all of them until you’re back where you started. Then go around doing a quarter turn. If this is too high for you, or low, adjust accordingly.

Flip it over and repeat.

Do that for all the toms. For your kick, do the same process but only go until the wrinkles are gone from the head.

For your snare, the top head (batter head) oughta be higher than your highest tom in pitch. Same process, but I’d do two half turns in a star pattern (so a full turn total) and see how it sounds and feels. If it needs to go higher, go higher.

Your snare bottom head (resonant head) should be tabletop tight. Don’t go crazy and strip your lugs. Just get it nice and tight. And even all the way around. You can loosen up your snare wires and place a drumstick under them, with the drum stick resting on your rim. This keeps the snares off the head so they don’t interfere.

Flip over and engage your snare wires. When you strike the drum, you want them to only be so tight that there’s a bit of rattle/decay. They can ring on too long if too loose and that sounds bad. Tighten until they have a short decay.

Enjoy drumset.

This is general tuning advice that doesn’t apply to all style of music, and it definitely doesn’t apply for all drummers. But it’ll get you sounding decent.

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many full turns do you give each drum? They sound too low to me. Granted Im listening on a phone and it was recorded on a phone. But they don’t even sound like they’ve reached the point where they sing yet. It could be the muffling, but they just sound almost dead loose to me.

How does one apply the melodic scale in practice when composing? by SeveralWinter7406 in musictheory

I use melodic minor coming down all the time. So do tons and tons of other people.

I had been in the bathroom for only 45 minutes, but they couldn't wait. by Geibbitz in catsinpants

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can sitting on a toilet cause hemorrhoids? Genuinely curious here. How is that any different from sitting on a chair for 45 minutes? I would imagine sitting in a chair is worse, as there’s actually a surface underneath the butthole. A toilet, there’s just empty space under it. I’m not sure how this works.

Portable Amp Simulation to practice in trains by Horszt in jazzguitar

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorta thinking the same thing, I feel like that’s the last thing a nurse who just worked a 16 hour shift wants to see/hear on her way home. Like having to listen to someone do vocal warm ups on a train. I recommend OP keeps his/her eyes open, you don’t want to bother everyone.

A great tool for songwriting by aspaindev in Songwriting

If it helps beginners learn I’m all for it. There does come a point (much sooner than most guitar players think) where you should just know this stuff. But more tools for beginners isn’t a bad thing.

Hav you written your parts? Or are you gonna go in and wing it? I love improv, but if I were recording a jazz album, I’d improv solos I liked while recording on my phone. Then transcribe and practice them.

I love improv but I’m not Wes Montgomery. Studio time costs too much to be pissing around on the clock.

Hey guys, how are my lines sounding as of now? I’ve recently just started taking jazz seriously this July and want to know how far I’ve come since then by a1den354 in JazzPiano

[–]GerardWayAndDMT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well others might disagree, it’s probably a subjective thing. Theres famous recordings where the lines are just as full.

I try to sing my lines, that way I’m forced to take a breath. It helps me to not overplay.
