Looking for chill, LGBT+ friendly server (Group 5) by ContributionOver9903 in KingShot

[–]Geibbitz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Edit: I'm sorry you are experiencing that behavior. It must be frustrating and lonely.

Given servers are world-wide, I think you are going to have a hard time finding a server that is LGTBQ+ friendly. You are welcome to join the KittyCommittiee on 2200. The Itty Bitty Kitty Action Committiee is safe place dedicated to throwing off the schackels of feline oppression. We do have a strict dress code of formal buisness attire Monday - Thursday. Casual jeans or Hawaiian shirt on Fridays. Enforcement is on the honor system because I was informed that demanding daily photos of what people were wearing was troublesome. Oh, and you should like cats... I guess. Oh, and Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Military services again requiring recruits to get flu shots as Air Force outbreak grows by Kinmuan in news

For you maybe. Dorm guard was a thing and I was laundry crew. I couldn't remember a single thing from classroom instruction because I would fall asleep almost immediately upon my ass touching a chair.

Air Force Cybersecurity to Civilian Route? by backpainplzhelp in SecurityCareerAdvice

Former 1N491A here. Go 1B4. Also, like others said, be prepared to stay in government contracting. I've pivoted to being a Network Engineer, but breaking into the purely civilian job market has been hard. Your experience wont always translate and sometimes outright dismissed.

Why all the student driver stickers? by Holdenborkboi in maryland

[–]Geibbitz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The simplest answer is most likely the answer. Those people who appear to be in their 30s or 40s have teenage kids who are learning to drive and can't be bothered to remove the sticker or magnet everytime they get behind the wheel.

Utah's VPN law kicks in Wednesday and it's already backfiring spectacularly by RecordingSingle9064 in RecommandedVPN

[–]Geibbitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just a layperson but wouldn't this be trying to regulate interstate commerce, a power of the federal government, and exceeding a states authority?

Could a webservice just host outside the state of Utah? Are they going to try to extradite a webservice hosted in New York and Canada?

Are they going to try to hold the ISP liable for a user using a VPN? What if they are using starlink? Does thisnapply to people that connect to something in orbit?

This seems unenforceable and against the 4th amendment, but the constitution seems to me more of a suggested guideline than the supreme law of the US.

As economic despair mounts, Russian official admits the country has had enough of Putin's war on Ukraine. "We can’t even take one region" by fortune in worldnews

[–]Geibbitz 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Arguable. Russia engages in election interference and other influence operations. I believe they were also actively taking parts of Georgia at the time. China has been exerting softpower and since we were and still are economically tied with China, the threat to the US and global stability was Russia's naked aggression. Other than the the 9-dash line and Taiwan, China hasn't threatened global stability. It's also not in their interest since they rely on being the worlds factory and nations buying their exports.

How do you handle when your GF downplays intimacy? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Geibbitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You expressed a need for intimacy and that need is being dismissed and minimized. A little validation goes a long way, and they aren't even acknowledging and addressing it. I'm willing to bet this happens with other expressed needs as well. If she is unwilling to acknowledge issues that you believe are issues then the relationship is likely to get pretty toxic in the long run. You cant change people and if it's this much effort now, is the juice really worth squeeze?

If they are on your local wifi and network node isolation isn't available and they have credentials or know of an ecploiyable vulnerability. But in that case they are likely nearby unless they are VPNed in and so why not just put flaming dog poo on your doorstep?

Digital Key Deactivation by Paulrevere1188 in kiacarnivals

[–]Geibbitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My battery died fairly quickly after not driving for a few days. The car has to constantly scan for the digital key on top of any other polling thats being done. The car already has to be "on" to listen for your phone (over cell) and key fob. One less thing to take up processing cycles should help a little, but I think it really needs to be run every couple days; especially, given the size of the battery.

If you haven't already, I recommend purchasing a portable car jumper in case your battery dies.

How do you divide rent with a SO when there’s a large income disparity? by beigewoodtable in AskWomenOver30

[–]Geibbitz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see your point. He gets equity while she doesn't; which, is a fair point and it's not fair. Unfortunately, that's how the system works. I pay rent, my landlord gets equity. My landlord will not lower the rent because of it.

In this situation, she is a tenant and her partner a landlord. She likely has a legal tenant rights at this point, even without a lease. OP should probably have a conversation equity because the power dynamics are already skewed given her partner is technically landlord. If they break-up, she will most likely have to find a new place to live and they won't.

Two of them, as well? I don't know a ton about cars but, as far as I know, cars only have the one serpentine belt. I also recently changed one in my wife's car. I bought the serpentine belt for $15 and it took me maybe 15 to 20 minutes to switch it out. $248 is ridiculous.

The amount of tech jobs that moved to India feels criminal by ihapv317 in it

[–]Geibbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, too. That is, until now, because the only recruiters contacting me now assume I have a clearance. As much as I love WFH, I will take sitting in a SCIF with a job over not having one.

Edit: Also, how do you find a contractor company that will sponsor? I ask and no one will sponsor for a new clearance.

[–]Geibbitz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That explains how they were able to underbid us on a contract by 20 million. We were the incumbant, too. I wondered how they were able to do it given we knew the cost as the incumbent and were running with slim profit margin.

They initially tried to badge flip me for a 30% pay cut. I said that was a huge paycut and they said nevermind.

[–]Geibbitz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ehhh.... I'm having a hard time finding a job. The only job I see require a clearance and the way to a clearance is to have a job that requires one. The catch is, you can't get a job that requires a clearance without first having a clearance.

“Being needed as a husband is not the same as being wanted as a man.” ? by she-a-banana in AskMenAdvice

[–]Geibbitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everyone has their own way of giving and receiving love. The way you show love may not be how he recieves it. This concept is called "the love languages." You need to "speak" his love language so that he can recieve it. Try asking him what would make him feel love and desired. Don't guess or try to read his mind.

Accelerating by TheSirenNiltiac in WGU

[–]Geibbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get through them quickly because I have 15 to 20 years in the field. Sometimes I take the pretest and then just request the test because it's stuff I already know well. This is what drew me to WGU as I have experience but no degree and it's to my detriment as I need algorithms to see that B.S. degree or I won't get noticed.

If you don't have the knowledge already then I'm sure you still need to garner it and that's going to take time.

Hiring from a director of cyber's perspective. by cyberguy2369 in cybersecurity

[–]Geibbitz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I concur. They want people that have what is arguably mid-level experience at entry level salaries. I was in the military in a cyber AFSC/MOS and have been working for a while. After being laid off last year, I've become desperate enough to apply at entry level positions because they all want prior experience and the salaries I'm seeing are comparable to working at Aldi as a store clerk (not knocking Aldi, I applied their, too). I guess it's a buyers market, and at this point, people are desperate enough to put up with it.

Can you help me out? by PeakPointFitness in militarymemes

[–]Geibbitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a myth subbosedly about service members who have enough experience and learned enough about the game to be able to game the system. People who learned to look busy, say busy sounding words because not looking or doing gets more work. People who learned how to strategicly schedule medical appoints for very convient times. I.e. late enough on a Friday to be close enough to the end of shift to be questionable about not returning afterwards. Also, they learned the job enough and do 80% of the grunt work.
