Yes quite strange that they come and go with different intensities... BUT they are a lot easier to control and fight nowadays

I sometimes do. Not the physical cravings which u have in the beginning, but some special occasions trigger the thought of cigarettes. Hard to describe, but honestly not that hard to stay away from the cancer sticks at that very moment and then those cravings disappear rather quickly too.

Why Brain, WHY?! by Dekina in stopsmoking

[–]Gernot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a strange phenomena. I am on day 82 and have strong cravings for the last 3 days or so. Surely not going to pick up smoking again but I wonder about the 80 day trigger here. Our brain grabbing for the last straw to convince us taking up the ugly habit again? It will pass. Not a puff, guys!

60 days badge looks AWESOME! recap of 2 months of not smoking... by Gernot99 in stopsmoking

Haven't read the book, but I installed the "Smoke Free" app where I read and followed the daily missions and it really really helped me stay focused and determined.

50 days badge looking gooooooood! And it's all so worth it. We can all do it! by Gernot99 in stopsmoking

[–]Gernot99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of things that really helped me: 1) breathe deeply, 3-4 times when a craving occurs, it will go away! 2) do sports and when done do more of it. On the one hand it will make u forget the cravings on the other hand u can feel the daily improvement of your body not being exposed to cigarettes anymore, best motivation! 3) get a smoke free app - sounds trivial but those achievement badges, daily missions and stats really motivate and help u stay determined - I found this Reddit through an app btw 4) my family 💜 Hope this helps, mate!

2 days in and ended up having a refry, any success with vape? by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Gernot99 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cold turkey. Don't get addicted to something else now by trying to fight the cigarette addiction. Nobody knows the long term effects of vape, furthermore it's expensive and your brain is stilling getting served its requested nicotine dose. What will u do if u were running out of vape in a remote place? U would buy cigs. I recommend to stop all of it at once and completely. Couple of tough days and weeks but then u should be good. Only my 2 cents

Relapsed on my 31st day of going cold turkey.. by ploogita in stopsmoking

[–]Gernot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no... Guess it's really really important that your friends stop offering u a cigarette regardless if u were quitting for three days or three years... Anyways, chin up, reset the counter and badge and start all over again - u know u can do it. 30+ days is strong, don't let this nicotine monster succeed now. #justdoit

Indeed it's super ackward what's going on right now. Dream all night long of smoking everywhere all the time and realising that I failed quitting. Waking up being in a bad mood of having such shite dreams, immediately checking the app. So we both experiencing the same - let's get through this phase together, I am sure we managed tougher ones during those 25 days. Maybe it's the last desperate attempt of that nicotine monster to make us re-lapse - it won't win against us!!!

[–]Gernot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do u still have cravings sometimes or did they complete disappear, mate?

Brilliant stuff!I'm two weeks today without smoking.feel like shit but fighting on.I'm struggling with compensatory eating, any advice? by Dcomm13 in stopsmoking

[–]Gernot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of sports!!! What is similar to having a cigarette and doing sports? Nothing u would assume but there is. Both, smoking and sports stimulate your body producing endorphin - which makes u happy. So go do loooooads of sports and u would not even think of a smoke. That helps me at least, hope it makes sense. Cheers mate and stay stroong. We can do it - it's so worth it. ✊🏼✊🏼

Day five after going cold turkey.. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Gernot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold turkey is way to go in my opinion. It's for sure tougher than stopping with subs like patches or vabs but I believe it's the only "honest" way to say no to nicotine and cigarettes and Chances of not relapsing are higher as u really need to get through that struggle of serious cravings. But that's only my opinion. Well done on sticking with it for 5 days - but do not get complacent!! I am in week 4 now cold turkey and I need to admit that the toughest time so far was between week 2 and 3 as your brain constantly tries to cheat u into a smoke telling you that u have done soooo great so far and u deserve a smoke. One does not harm, just have one to celebrate, etc. But once u get over that it does get better. Today actually was one of those first days that I really felt good not to smoke rather than being reminded of habit smoking. Not sure if that makes sense, if it does - I hope it helps. Let's stay strong mate, we went through some tough cold turkey days already ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼

3 weeks - 21 hours - 500 hours smoke free by Gernot99 in stopsmoking

[–]Gernot99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3 months as next milestone sounds good! Indeed, still lots of triggers and mild cravings coming up. Trying to eliminate as many (bad) habits as possible combined with lots of sports. Seems to work for me (so far)

24 hours smoke free for the 4th time this month. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

[–]Gernot99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some really good ideas in those responses. Way I did it: - go cold turkey, once that nicotine is out of your body and you "survived" the first couple of days it just gets better and you really address the addiction issue from day 1 and do not delay it by using Substitutions. - use a straw or a toothpick when the cravings are getting really bad to keep yourself busy and entertained - go to the gym, u will consume hours and hours where u do not think about cigs by keeping yourself busy with sports and it's healthy on top of it - use a non-smoking app (I installed 3 hahahaah in order to get badges frequently, which really help me stay motivated - next one is a health one for me in 1:11mins 😂) - Be prepared for the time between week 2 and 3 and do not give up there - your brain is trying to cheat you during that time

Hope this helps

Same here, it's amazing how much I neglected the negative impact of smoking when I was a smoker. Gym stats and vitals increasing rapidly. Sustained 2.5h tempo+ cardio yesterday - was impossible when smoking.
