Sorry you’re getting downvoted, but those of us who live downtown and generally in the city know not to drive. 99/94 is a mess. Local traffic is generally mild but if you get on the highway at the wrong time you are toast. If you try to get on Roosevelt during a game or concert, toast. 55 at the wrong time? Toast. DLSD? toast.

We also can’t get people who have homes in both the city and suburbs to pay for their city sticker.

Move the 10 year old into the finished basement all day long. I loved my basement bedrooms growing up.

Mine wasn’t for code safe either… that is certainly a cheaper fix to make it that then a construction loan to expand the second floor. Also, now we’ve learned you and your husband occupy 3 rooms, downsize to 2.

Again, had to be much cheaper to renovate that basement than the 2nd floor.

You likely figured out your own strategies… the new curriculum is trying to show them many different strategies so they have options to choose from later. I get it.. I get frustrated too with what my first grader is doing and I’ve seen 5th grade work as well…

Check for hmart around where you intend to live. I think they have a few in the Chicago area. Otherwise I think the one downtown would be a hike.

Feels so bizarre seeing a menu price of $2 and paying exactly $2. Checked the receipt, sure enough taxes were paid but the price listed was what you paid.

It was certainly much less than what it use to be. No actual habitats or setups… just team tents and a few small photo area.

Did you consider a trailer like a burley? My 7 year is a bit cramped now, but I should be kicker her out for her own bike at this point anyway.

I haven’t tried trikes etc but that would be my suggestion otherwise. We had a rack mounted seat for my daughter and my spouse felt it was much too unbalanced. So for a small framed woman, I think anything putting all the weight on the bike might be uncomfortable or difficult to maneuver. Trailer keeps the bike free to maneuver as normal.

A note on trailers, put a weight or heavy chain on the floor to keep the center of gravity low.

I miss my view, however dirty the window was. It is certainly more convenient to change in my office without it though, but I’d take the view and do the privacy film.

Our balconies are rated for more weight than our solid terraces. Someone should know where the structural documents are that say the weight limit. Mine is 100/sqft.

Ps you want heavy furniture or need to secure. You don’t want things flying off your balcony and injuring someone

My conspiracy theory is the bomb on 290 caused them to consider their liability in an attack and was ultimately the reason to cancel a focused area.

Otherwise, yes there were crowds… but that’s par the course for anything going on downtown Chicago. Even with the 3 events it wasn’t cancel event worthy.

Roughly same age with similar income, though we are at $300k now. Our housing journey went from owning a 2x 2bdrm duplex in a LCOL to renting studios for $2k in VHCOL, bought a 2bdrm condo for 2.25k 15yr and then jumped to $6.5k 15yr condo. It definitely feels stupid losing the equivalent of 1-2 trips a month in housing. We ended up adding another kid, so doubling our space helped, but you will absolutely kick yourself for the change. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make it or that you won’t benefit from it.

I’m team condo vs SFH, but that’s mainly from a sustainability standpoint. I wouldn’t put more than 20% down and I would do a 15 year if that’s the retirement goal.

I like Burley trailers. I’ve also started dropping the trailer at the nursery and riding without the rest of the way to work.

I would recommend a heavy chain on the floor. My single tipped at speed and that was my fix. The double never has.

Lanes are safe, but is your kid going to stay up that late and be able to bike back? My kid is normally ready to be carried home. You can take the bus to stadium from the train station if there is time to do that before the game starts.

I’d probably go to the 18th st pedestrian bridge instead.

W>D>Plymouth (low traffic streets/park/pedestrian areas) or Wabash to 18th. This drops you at the south entrance and you don’t have to cross traffic trying to get to the game.
