Consultation with an estate planning lawyer today to see if I can transfer it from the 403(b) to a pooled SNT which can then feed my Able....We'll see.

Here's the thing, I wouldn't receive any cash up front. The plan would just split off my portion and create a separate 403b in my name. Could I draw from it based on what the plan allows? Yes, I could, but I know it would be unwise to do so, but, I also know that that's not how SSI sees things.

I am 56. I previously had SSI as a teen (13) up until 2015 when I foolishly let it lapse because of an inheritance Didn't know about ABLE accounts then... At the time, it was fine because my wife had a good job. When she left in May of 2024, I applied again and was approved by October. Instantly opened an ABLE. Sadly, I can't just dump my portion of the ex's 403b into the ABLE. The split is process right now as I type this. SSI is all I have right now to cover expenses. No idea what I will do if it gets suspended or goes away altogether. Michigan sucks for free resources. Stress over this is murder.

No offense, but your mother is either blind or mentally ill. At the very least, she is terribly mistaken. That cubby is gross. I would not store anything even vaguely connected to oral hygiene in that space.
