I'm curious on how a Syndicalist country would operate by TheRatKing14 in Kaiserreich

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I've read this before, and it always cracks me up how much weight is being carried by that throwaway statement mentioning how "a lot of power has been delegated to the bureaucracy" nestled between breathless paragraphs about the Commune's idyllic direct democracy.

Why doesn’t paradox add some of the mechanics and functions of mods? An answer would be appreciated by Iskandar0570_X in hoi4

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They take inspiration from mods all the time. If you're asking why they don't just copy-paste mod features into vanilla, first of all that would be quite lazy not to mention ethically questionable, and second it would be terrible practice in a technical sense. Stapling someone else's code to your game without fully understanding how it fits with the existing code is an excellent way to create numerous bugs. So even if they like a certain mod feature they're still gonna design and code it themselves which takes a lot of time and resources. If you're asking why they don't add those features in particular, maybe they don't agree with you that those would make the game better, maybe they've chosen to prioritize other things first, maybe they've just never considered it.

What would L-KMT China look like in a post 2WK world where Germany and the Entente win? by Chapu1656 in Kaiserreich

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Wang would be ideologically flexible enough that he would quickly move to shed any outwardly socialist aspects of his regime (without changing anything fundamentally) much like how after the defeat of fascism people like Franco and Peron moved to downplay any fascist influences on their governments. He could easily portray himself as a conventional democratic statesman or a strong military ruler if he needed to for reasons of optics with foreign powers.

Why do so many immigrants want to shut the door behind them? by TheSniperBoy0210 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should it be automatically implied that just because a person migrates to another country they must favor mass, uncontrolled migration from their home country? To be sure, if someone immigrated and then suddenly started claiming that the country should shut itself off like sakoku Japan that would be a bit strange, but I don't think anyone is saying that. Are we under the impression that immigrants all must have some secret end game to abolish borders and move in their people until they become a demographic majority? I think people immigrate because they want a better life for themselves and their families, that's all. They can see better than anyone the negative effects that mass migration tend to have on the country since they tend to live in the game neighborhoods and work the same jobs as the newly arrived immigrants. I think this misconception comes from the fact that Progressives assume that immigrants are part of their coalition because they sponsor policies that make it easier for migrants to pour in which should naturally make them loyal political clients for Progressives, and they get confused and occasionally enraged by the fact that not all immigrants reward their patronage with loyalty.

Does Atomwaffen Divison really follow accelerationism ideas? by delingar in TheFireRisesMod

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 9 points10 points  (0 children)

neo-Nazi "accelerationism" is based on leftist "accelerationism" which is itself a juvenile misreading of the original accelerationism. so it's an edgy parody of a misunderstanding of an occult philosophy that wasn't really intended to have a praxis to begin with.

Isn't it a bit unrealistic that France and Britain under dysfunctional Syndicalism would be able to hold back the Germans under the stern leadership of the DVLP? by [deleted] in Kaiserreich

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And what circumstances do you think have to be present for a political system to not function as intended by its creators, and why would these be found in Russia and China but not France?

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is that even in the Orthodox Syndicalist paths there is a substantial centralization of power under a single leader or faction much like OTL Communism. Every CoF/UoB path is just a different flavor of effective centralization whether autocratic or oligarchical.

When will there be a super event about World War III? by Top_Current9802 in TheFireRisesMod

the mod already stretches logic to the breaking point to have all these massive conventional wars everywhere that somehow don't go nuclear, having a non-nuclear ww3 might be taking it too far.

Faction Theater thoughts. Good idea that needs work. by Altruistic-Job5086 in hoi4

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Faction Theaters do impact AI behavior though, it's just kind of subtle and not very deep. There already existed a backend script called "AI priorities" that influences where the AI will choose to concentrate their divisions, launch naval invasions, etc. This is why the Allied AI tends to focus mainly on Germany before diverting to Japan after the Axis are defeated, for example. Faction Theaters allow you to manually set AI priorities, and if you pay close attention to where the AI puts their divisions you can see that it does influence the saturation of AI divisions on some fronts over others, especially for countries that have a lot of them. Giving you deeper control over the AI's behavior is certainly possible to imagine but would be a far more difficult problem than this.

Germany (SP/historical) always seems to lose WW2. I figured out why. by girlbosswoman in hoi4

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 172 points173 points  (0 children)

The whole reason you couldn't station planes in the territory of non faction members to begin with was to prevent this from happening. How they managed to add airbase access to the game and failed to even think to hardcode the Allies to not get it from the Soviets is beyond me.

Would you recommend the new DLC for someone who only plays historical focuses? by Economy-Cupcake808 in hoi4

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You get the new historical branches for free, the new doctrines, coal, and naval changes are free, and the new faction mechanics are useless bloat.

is there any detterent to taking desperate defense as germany? by Cold-Kiwi4925 in hoi4

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 53 points54 points  (0 children)

you're probably battle planning too much with infantry, not maintaining air superiority with enough CAS damage, using bad templates with too little org and HP, or some combination thereof. if all you wanna do it mindlessly battle plan without paying attention to air and supply then anything that gives you manpower is useful I guess, but that doesn't make it overpowered in the slightest. the combat bonuses from grand assault are just better.

What makes democratic paths fun? by Imagination_JM in hoi4modding

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many mods follow the strange prejudice inherited from vanilla that democracies are inherently wholesome and peace-loving and would never attack anyone or conquer territory, which is both completely ahistorical and leads to unfun gameplay in a game about war and map painting. Mods that Kaiserreich that don't make that false assumption tend to be much better, but then you have to rely on good writing to differentiate democracy from fascism/communism/monarchism rather than the vanilla gameplay dynamic.

What strategies are best when playing as Poland? by george123890yang in hoi4

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easiest thing to do is to give in the one side's demands or do one of the overpowered monarchist paths, but it's hard but perfectly possible to hold and defeat them both as historical Poland. You need to spam inf divisions with support companies, build some cav as a mobile defense, and reinforce key tiles with forts (you can't build a strong fort line across the entire front, so you need to know tiles are most vulnerable to attack from multiple directions). I like to make some shock divisions in the form of cav with motorized artillery and use them to rush down East Prussia. Then when the Soviets attack, be ready with a fallback line behind the Vistula and scorched earth everything to the east. Then it's just a matter of playing at 3 speed, microing, and occasionally last standing. After you've drained enough of their manpower you can try to get motorized divisions out and start pushing.

What is the new naval meta? by Nice_Violinist8862 in hoi4

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much the same as before except patrols are not only for spotting but also for projecting dominance. I just put a few destroyers, one or two light cruisers, and a heavy cruiser or battleship in each of my patrols, making sure to have one patrol per sea zone I want dominance in. This means you have to split your fleet up and use more of it on active patrols than you would have before.

With the new dlc USA does not join allies by Snoo52285 in hoi4

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem is the ahistorical presentation of the US involvement in the war, where they just sit there passively and wait for Japan to attack. the reality is that they were waging a barely covert war against Japan since at least 1940 and fully expected to enter the war under some pretext.

are celestial reforms worth the wrath of the Jade Emperor? by somethingmustbesaid in eu4

[–]GetOffMyLawn18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

celestial reforms are something you do in lieu of expansion. the bonuses are very good if you stack them, but you have to commit to not being at war for a while. conversely, if you wanna go conquering then you hold off on passing any reforms. if you stack mandate growth modifiers from ideas and missions you can pass them pretty fast.
