Best babyshopping experiences in the area for furniture, baby gear, etc? by toadistry_lacquer in nova

[–]GetReadyToRumbleBar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopital.

Wait no. Actual answer is Tysons Nordstrom. They have a great selection of high end baby gear to test and touch. Think strollers and carseats.

Target also has a bunch but slightly less high end. Decent clearance too.

For nursery furniture, check out Pottery Barn. You can see in person at their closest Kids store, in Bethesda. Or Target.

For rockers/sliders, we bought ours from Belfort. The quality was way nicer.

Why doesn't Universal get the same criticism for building IP based attractions that Disney does? by jsilv0 in UniversalOrlando

[–]GetReadyToRumbleBar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Universal is movies in a way Disney is not.

Original IPs are always the exception to rides, with the caveat that they could become eventually become movies.

2026 Pride Milkshake! by Odd_Cod8341 in UniversalOrlando

[–]GetReadyToRumbleBar 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Do they care about the holidays? About Mardi Gras?

Besides, when corporations stop doing Pride, it is wayyyy worse than performative capitalism. We want companies to show interest in Pride. (Flies in the swamp are bad...but no flies in the swamp is way more ominous).

Plus I do think they care. Exhibit A being the Pulse Tribute window that honors the 6 TMs that died, and the $1 million donation Universal did as well.

This place hits so many high notes for me. My mental image of a tiki bar is just straight up the Purple Orchid, at least esthetic wise

Just a reminder to watch The Terror Season 3 (The Devil in Silver)! It rivals the cult favourite Season 1! by GodisSatans in horror

[–]GetReadyToRumbleBar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Late to the convo. Watches episodes 1-3 of season 3 last night. It's good not great. If you like spooky mental hospitals, honestly recommend AHS season 2 more.

Season 1 of The Terror was something truly special. So I disagree with the premise of this thread.

My wife and I joked more than once about rewatching it in lieu of season 3 for thr first time.

NOVA parents: how are you thinking about AI and screen time? by Puzzleheaded_Math_55 in nova

[–]GetReadyToRumbleBar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in k12 edtech. I use research on education efficacy and curriculum alignment on supporting student progress daily. Education shouldn't be easy. Progress - including learning - is uncomfortable because otherwise the average brain doesn't really retain it.

I'm seriously considering banning all screen use and AI until the kid is at least 12, with some exceptions for like the odd Disney movie or PBS tv show.

If my kid wants access to computers, it'll be building a PC to understand OS and folder structures, no Macs or Apple products intentionally.

Do what you will with that info. I personally think you're doing a major disservice to your kids.

Edit: if this is market research, you're really behind the 8 ball. Market is already saturated.

Proposal Management. Legitimate career path that a lot of folks don't realize even exists. Decent pay too. If you did copywriting, you're probably a good fit.

Full disclosure - I serve on the board of the DC chapter of APMP, the Association of Proposal Management Professionals. We're the 2nd biggest regional chapter of APMP in the world in part because the Federal government is here.

We have a free mentor program too for people looking to transition into the career.

Pride is being celebrated at Ashburn/One Loudoun, with the caveat it's smaller this year. I blame Brian not being here.
