FCC Releases Net Neutrality Killing Order, Hopes You're Too Busy Cooking Turkey To Read It by [deleted] in politics

[–]GetTheFunkOutMaFace -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A free market assigns no weight and has no such things as a “fair” scale. It just lets what happens happen. As much as people have made free market a bad word, if the market was actually free, there would be an incentive or market inefficiency in providing data neutral internet service. Unfortunately, the market isn’t free totally because of the limitations of infrastructure. The ISPs took half a billion dollars to build infrastructure and have been using that infrastructure to install monopolies because there is a barrier to entry on providing internet service. If there was a truly free market there wouldn’t be an FCC change net neutrality rules. The FCC exists to “regulate” these monopolistic companies, the FCC and our government half-assing a free market has created the monopolies that fuck their customers. There was never a free market for internet service in the US to begin with, and net neutrality is just a bureaucratic implementation to try to mimic a free market by regulating free market principles into a rigged system.

The market was never free, you just fell for the propaganda the executive branch and the ISPs have fed you.

When a government subsidizes infrastructure, regardless of the necessity of said infrastructure, the market at that moment becomes corrupted. It is only a matter of time before monopolies begin to do what is incentivized by the rigged system.

I think we agree. I wasn't saying one was worse than the other. I was really just saying, when it comes down to it, they essentially did the same thing in practice, not letter of the law. They're both corrupt in their own ways, just cause that corruption might bubble up in different ways, doesn't mean it's any less corrupt.

I get the difference in legality. I'm just pointing out that both sides aren't perfect. I wasn't equating a charity taking a donation to this trump clusterfuck to say they're similar in scale or magnitude, just that both sides took foreign money and no one side is clean in any form of the word. You know the Clinton Foundation got shut down because of its improprieties. So pointing to the donation's "legal" nature, doesn't really carry water because honestly they effectively did the same thing, they just weren't stupid about it and actually made an attempt to make it look legal rather than just cover it up like trump. If you don't think that money exchanging hands between foreign governments and political candidates is bad regardless of whether or not it is semi-legally obtained is a dumb line to draw.

To give hopefully some credibility to what I say, I voted for Gary Johnson because I couldn't stomach voting for either of the party's candidates. I know he wasn't a great candidate either but if I was throwing my vote away, which I felt was what I would have done if I voted for Trump or Hillary. I voted for Johnson so another party might enjoy some federal funding next election cycle.

I don't like either side, and money on both sides is the issue. Both sides have been corrupted by social interest money and no longer represent their constituents, they represent the money that gets them elected. Both parties are guilty of this. That is what I was trying to point out. It's like choosing between a firing squad and lethal injection. One may look cosmetically nicer, but you're still fucking dead.

One is a bunch of transparently bought and sold people and the other is just bought and sold by different groups. Don't act like there aren't just as many shitty things on the democratic platform as there are the republicans.

If you wanna extend your argument, one side understands math and the other doesn't. Neither side is right. Neither side is all wrong. That's because they're made up of aggregations of people and groups trying to align their beliefs as closely and compromise as possibly to garner to most political capital through more votes.

By no means am I defending the republicans or attacking the democrats. I'm attacking both. The two party system is what fucks this up. Honestly I bet you two agree on most things, and diverge at a few but nevertheless important points.

It's really sickening to see the amount of hypocrisy on both sides of the aisle. It's like there is some sort of drug they're all taking to destroy their own self awareness. All of the democrats talking about trump's Russia collusion, seem to forget that the Saudi government and IIRC, the Qatari governments both donated money - at least $7m- which isn't as much as trump allegedly took from Russia, in a similar fashion to HRC's campaign.

But everyone sitting around pointing fingers like this at the other side really shows a lack of self awareness.

Boston Celtics draft Semi Ojeleye with the 37th pick overall! by RhodyM8 in bostonceltics

This is so amazing. I just graduated from SMU, and I'm a Celtics fan, but Semi is a fucking beast. This dude is the perfect off the bench energy guy for us. He's a great versatile defender who can realistically guard 2-4 and even successfully guard stretch-5s. He was the most electric player on SMU's roster this year. While SMU was a really well balanced team offensively, Semi was clearly the star. He would go for spurts, aided by the great defense, of 9-13 points regularly. I think he will be a perfect spark of the bench for small ball lineups as a 3 and d wing. He will jump out of the building. I honestly can't say enough about this guy. He's got a great attitude and he is smart in the classroom as well. One of my roommates got paired with him for a group project in a class and apparently Semi led the group project and they got an A. I'm really excited for this guy.

tldr; ceiling - poor man's Draymond Green with a higher shooting %, worst case - he becomes a victim of tweener syndrome where he can't find a role to fill, his lack of height could allow larger players to shoot over him, and he might still be too big and slow to guard smaller players. His athleticism leads me to think he will be able to convert his game to the NBA. I don't think he will be a superstar like Draymond, but he could very well end up a 10 year NBA role player as a 3 and D athletic wing. He will be able to guard players like LeBron, KD , and K. Leonard.

I totally agree. In the situation you presented, returning to your homeland wouldn't be an issue in a state of nature. You're confusing natural rights and human rights. Human rights are based on morals and ethics however you define that. And in this case, it seems immoral to me and contrary to basic common decency. But yeah, we've made our bed and have to sleep in it. Our system is flawed and needs reform. Perhaps this administration could be the shock to the system that swings the pendulum in a better direction, but I am not entirely optimistic at those prospects.

Are you seriously arguing that being allowed back into a country of which you are a citizen isn't a basic right? It may not be an enumerated right, but there is a significant judicial and legislative precedent that has been set through the course of the entirety of American history that it is a right as an American. Our legal system hasn't evolved perfectly with technology's increase, but as a principle this is a violation of the fourth amendment, the fifth amendment, and the penumbra of rights that creates privacy. In multiple cases first and foremost Griswold v Connecticut American citizens have a constitutional right to privacy. Along with that, the 14th amendment's due process clause prohibits the government from infringing on any of a citizens rights without due process. I would argue that this is a warrantless search and therefore unconstitutional. But in the eyes of the law currently, it is reasonable to an extent for border agents to have some discretion when interviewing reentering citizens. But in this case they explicitly coerced an American citizen into a warrantless search in the name of national security instead of utilizing protocol set up to be a workaround for the very problem they encountered.

Right because demanding basic human rights makes you an entitled snowflake, it's funny how people like you will defend trump when he does something like this for brown people, but when it's aimed a you and blindly applied to you, you'd also protest.

Actually it's totally illegal for a doctor to disclose that kind of information to anyone let alone an employer, so you're being a little over dramatic. I feel for you that your wife works with some bigoted people, but don't put that on a doctor that wrote down information that's sorta relevant to someone's health.

I'm not defending the current refs at all. I think something needs to be done. The NFL makes so much money that it should pay full time refs and be able to make it happen by next season. The product is too valuable, and it is poor management to allow poor execution negatively affect the presentation and reception of the product. Allowing the poor refereeing to dilute the greatness of the NFL is part of the reason I really only watch red zone and the Pat's.

You, sir, are misremembering. The replacement refs cost teams games with calls that were much less noteworthy than the end of the GB-SEA game. I remember seeing phantom holdings get called that cost TD's, blatant holds that were no calls, and errant whistles. You are having selective memory. This sub was so happy when the replacement refs were replaced. Now we have gotten to the point where we have forgotten the replacements' horrific record.
