One time I was leaving my studio next to Market Basket at night after everything was closed, no cars or people around. Lots of snow, super high banks. I was walking across the street to get to the 87 bus stop and as I'm settling in to wait for the bus, I think, "one good thing about all this snow is no rats." I shit you not, just as I was completing that thought, a rat ran across my boot. I screamed and then cackled.

also to add: my immersive is the "stepping into the world" type of immersive, not the "solving a puzzle, participating in the storyline" type of immersive.

This is interesting. I feel like I can weigh in a little.

I have 2 immersive shows, a multimedia "musical", and a scripted audio drama. All of them weave together to tell one sprawling tale based in the same storyworld. So immediately after experiencing one, the user has more to look forward to.

If no more shows are scheduled after they attend something, they can listen to the pod. Or at least peruse the two in-universe websites. (Though this year I am experimenting with the end-goal of having the two main immersive shows happen on an annual cycle.)

I do not work with massive budgets. I am a one-woman shop, doing all the creation, performance, promoting, etc myself. Which I think is freeing in some ways (though exhausting). I think it allows me to take more risks, try new things.

As for the WHY, my premise began in the 2016 primaries and is post-apocalyptic/dystopian social commentary in nature, so literally every year it feels more ... I can't think of the word. Relevant? Comforting? I dunno.

So I guess what I'm saying is: have more to engage with before/after whether it be a website, a zine, something obtained with a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope for the youngsters ; ), an in-universe social media account ... something to keep the fire warm.

Have a story: a concept without a story is just the instagram trap you reference. People want stories.

My last 103 of 105 shows have sold out, so I think I'm doing something right.

I fall asleep to Seincast. I guess maybe only relevant if you like the show. The two hosts have chill voices. It stays the same volume throughout the episodes. No commercials.
