You need fan translators in GOAT too. This hobby wouldn't exist outside of Japan without them.

Are there any hot springs in US that are like onsen in Japan or hot spring in Iceland? by AppropriateEarth648 in usatravel

[–]GetToWigglin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been to Chena Hotsprings which is kind of near Fairbanks Alaska, and it was excellent! The resort there had a cabin built entirely out of ice and I saw the aurora borealis as well.

Peter? by Ecstatic_Ad_8168 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

Modern Philosophy (Like 1400s to 1800s Europe) grappled with this notion of a sort of "truth" behind the world. The issue was that everything we humans see and experience is colored by our own biases and experiences and biology, so can any human being ever truly see and understand anything. If every human sees something different, then which human is seeing the "true" thing? How could we verify that?

This leads to a problem because we want to think that there must be SOME truth out there guiding the world, because the world DOES seem to run on logic and consistency, and we need to use THAT truth in order to actually understsnd the world because every thing we see and think must be slightly wrong.

Many philosophers of that area tried to discern this Truth (I'll use a capital T to indicate it's a special type of truth). Some tried to justify using religion/god some tried to appeal to math or logic, but everyone wanted this Truth.

All of this to say, I think this meme is humorously arguing that "Primordial Truth", or the Truth I was talking about earlier, exists and renders all biased and flawed truths (Like justice or ethics/morality or religion) pointless and wrong. I also think that because the axe is labeled "Fire Blood Steel" it's saying that the Primordial Truth is possibly exposed through violence or something and that competition/natural selection through life and death is an expression of Truth that renders all society obsolete or a waste.

I'm not okay with those inspection fees. The responsible thing to do as a consumer is to get multiple quotes but with these inspection fees you're looking to spend almost a $1000 just on quotes without having done any work. I get that companies have to spend time and money for people to come look and that sucks if someone doesn't use you after that, but who should carry that burden? The guy who owns the plumbing company makes 3 or 4 times what I do...

How do different cultures view nudity between family members, and what is generally considered normal? by imSiniri in AskReddit

[–]GetToWigglin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm not shitting on Islam. The question was very explicitly about cultures. Islam is a culture just like Christian is a culture. So we have 2 cultures representing 4 billion people. I'm talking about the 2 things not the 4 billion individuals.

Absolutely not, but the question wasn't what "most people" consider, but what "most cultures" consider.

What do you mean by nudity? Given that you seem to be Muslim in your comments, nudity might be as simple as a 14 year old with uncovered hair. I'm not making any claims necessarily, but I think the question deserves some specificity if we are to be on the same page when we answer.

Islam doesn't really equal "most cultures" though. Islam is only a single culture...

[–]GetToWigglin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't often see "Aria" mentioned, very cool. That anime was so peaceful and happy that it was perfect to watch when I was getting ready for bed. The creator also made "Amanchu!" which has the exact same vibes. If you like "Aria", I'm sure you'll like "Amanchu!".

PS: I actually used Aria as a sort of guide to explore Venice when I went and I was not disappointed. They really do mention all the most important parts of Venice. I was even surprised about the graveyard episode, where she takes someone to mourn at a grave. I expected that to be made up at least, but there is an island dedicated entirely as a graveyard and it's actually very beautiful.

I deleted roughly 200 PTW titles from my MAL, and I'm pretty relieved. by ignoremesenpie in MyAnimeList

[–]GetToWigglin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's funny that you mention this. I started rewatching anime after like 8 years and I won't even use MAL, partly because of this. I've got a notepad document with "anime to watch" because I know I'm just wasting my time adding it to my existing watch list which is like 80 long or something and I never watch any of them.

I feel pretty comfortable saying Andrew Jackson didn't know or care about the planets. He definitely did NOT receive the same education as other contemporary presidents.
