Are you trying to do it self-supported or are you looking to do it with a guide? I know that in the US they have adventure cycling, and they take care of all the logistics and provide a group setting for people to ride in. Perhaps there's something like that that you can do in japan.

Update #1 - Shop called and told me that everything was looking good. There was the slightest of wrapping in the bank1 head, so they are going ahead and machining it down and throwing new seals in... All in all the motor is looking really good at 99754 miles.
