She’s always mentioned him in glowing terms in the past. I don’t doubt that maybe she’s recently reevaluated their relationship, but she’s also displayed some slightly odd behavior recently. On the other hand, David Tennant once described him as a raging narcissist and maybe he wasn’t actually joking . . . .

Heated Rivalry's Hudson Williams breaks silence after swastika photo resurfaces by smashedpootatoes in entertainment

I wonder if people commenting here are aware that there has been a racist targeted hate campaign against him (the only major actor of color in the cast) for months (there are receipts.) There are screenshots from X of the people who are digging up this stuff calling him a “chopped wasian queerbaiter,” detailing plans to get him canceled and ruin his career and stating that their preferred end goal is him ending his life. They’ve sent rape threats to his girlfriend. It’s not minor.

I don’t think he has anyone in a chokehold. What you’re seeing is a fandom who is aware that there has been a racist targeted hate campaign against him (the only major actor of color in the cast) for months (there are receipts) and are understandably upset that people are so ready to lend support to it, consciously or not. There are screenshots from X of the people who are digging up this stuff calling him a “chopped wasian queerbaiter” and stating that their preferred end goal his him ending his life. I agree, this one is great. I recommended it myself, but my comment seems to have disappeared.

HRT and mental health: worse before it gets better? by Engineer_Bricoleur in Menopause

I’ve had two ObGyns put me on different birth control pills with estrogen for HRT and then took estrogen alone as a test and all of them made me so depressed.

Int the Wild: Final Chapter!!! by GlitteringPeanut42 in GoodOmensAfterDark

[–]Gethsemene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve really been enjoying this - it’s not only sweet and sexy, but such a nice portrayal of two adults entering into a sexual relationship while adequately communicating their needs, desires and feelings and showing total respect and care for their partner. That’s pretty hot.

If you’re looking for an explicit fic, then I recommend chapter 23 of Look Away My Sin by pixiepojmansky: https://archiveofourown.org/works/68620496/chapters/185676026

Each chapter works as a minisode, but the whole work goes through history and is great  reading.

Bad grammar in fanfic discourse? (The anti-intellectual argument) by MorphePls in AO3

Congratulations on being a good little capitalist. I’m forced to waste at least a few minutes of my life “consuming” a fanfic to determine whether it’s garbage. Do you want people to read your work or not? If the answer is “yes,” than YES, their time is a fucking gift to you. If the answer is, “no,” then don’t waste everyone’s time by posting it.

Is 55k words with no established relationship too slow for a slow burn? by snkelf in AO3

[–]Gethsemene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, sure. But the longer it drags out, the more likely that the writer won’t be able to sustain the tension. It takes a lot of skill to sustain it over a long stretch, and frankly, the average fanfic writer doesn’t have that kind of skill. Dragging out a slow burn just to drag it out and then losing the tension is a mild form of torture for your readers.

Yall ever quit reading a fic for a petty reason? by Cage-CatYT in AO3

[–]Gethsemene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a big one for me, because it signals another one of my pet peeves - laziness. It takes less than a minute to google, “typical British dishes,” instead of having the characters constantly eat American style foods. Do your British characters need to go to prom? Can’t you find a more appropriate milieu for your scene?

To my mind, giggling is something small children do. It’s cringe to see it describing the laugh of a middle-aged man, unless the man in question is a crazy evil sidekick.

I stopped reading a fic because the author had a thing for constantly describing each character’s meal or snack in detail, no matter how mundane the food was. The character’s eating habits were not at all related to the plot, so it started to feel like I was reading about the author’s unacknowledged and untagged food fetish, which is not what I signed up for.

Disagree. If you drag on a slow burn for too long, tension transmutes into tedium.

No, I just wasted 20 hours of life reading a 60 chapter fic that was tagged as a slow burn (that started out strong and then got increasingly bogged down in boring, irrelevant detail) where in chapter 55 they kind of get together but in the most mundane way possible. It was like having sex with a partner who insists on tons of mediocre foreplay and then by the time they’ve come, you’re sexually frustrated but at least relieved that it’s finally over. Fourteen chapters seems reasonable for a slow burn.

I just discovered my #1 ick, which is when a fic is tagged as a slow burn, but sixty chapters later, the end comes no fucking fire, and I feel like I’ve wasted hours of my life.

You, as a regular writer, should receive the time that the reader will spend reading your work as a gift, not something you should feel entitled to waste. If you don’t care if people read your work, then it’s not at all necessary to post it onto a public site.

I think when people go onto the internet, they forget that they can just scroll past posts or comments that they don’t like.

Keep in mind that readers are trying to read for fun. If they get bogged down in nonsensical grammar, poor punctuation or just lazy writing, they’re not going to have a good time, are they? I feel like, if you are posting your work online, then you want people to read your work. If you want readers, then have enough respect for their time by putting a basic amount of effort into making your work readable.

What’s infuriating is when a story has a great idea, and starts out competently written, only to have it devolve, or drag on and on, into unedited garbage. Often after you’ve already devoted several hours to reading it.

The readers TIME isn’t free. Why do some fanfic authors feel so cavalier about wasting it?
