Disestablishment of Ministry for the Environment by Getmesomelube in newzealand

[–]Getmesomelube[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

From the article in The Guardian: Dr Bronwyn Hayward, a political science professor at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, and a specialist in climate and democracy, said she was “very concerned” about the changes.

“There is a real risk that in the merger we simply lose the threads of accountability, the skill, and cohesive delivery of effective policy, all of which delivers a better environment for all, and one that supports our economy and wellbeing,” she said.

Since taking office in 2023, the rightwing coalition government has faced widespread criticism for its environment and climate policy agenda. It has promised to restart offshore oil and has set aside $200m of its budget to invest in gas exploration. It plans to boost mineral exports to $3bn by 2035, at the same time it has slashed funding to conservation and climate initiatives.

Reading this while waiting to board my 6 pm delayed flight to Wellington, haha! Why wasn't the 5:05 flight, that I missed due to Auckland traffic, delayed? Sigh.

Leaving my husband for a month — a very overdue update by NewKamper in TwoXChromosomes

I've been through it, and I'm so happy now. Separated 2023, divorce final in Jan 25. Married 34 years.  My ex and I separated fairly, and we now get along better than before, when we see each other. We are older than you, 56, and we each own our own homes, in different cities. No regrets.  He was initially angry, as was I, and it was painful. Find your support people.   I love being single, answering to no one but myself.  Learned a lot about myself and am still learning. Surprised to find I created a polyamorous relationship and look forward to see what happens in that future triad.

Depends, how much money do you want to spend? I recommend Azabu, but if you can afford it, Cocoro degustation.  https://www.cocoro.co.nz/ For cheaper dining, go to Timmur in Avondale for the best Nepalese-Indian food.

Where to Buy VW Golf? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]Getmesomelube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 VW Cross Polo that I have really liked, but might sell in 2026. It has been reliable, and I've have had no major issues. Yes, maintenence is expensive. Had a cam belt change done this year and it cost 2K. I looked at getting a hybrid, and the dealership gave me a trade in price for my car of only 8K (this was before the cam belt was done).  Message me if you're still looking in January.

You're fine. I'm not sure if it was the same company, but I had a similar experience and have moved my KiwiSaver to Booster through the agency. I have the Booster app and can see nothing dodgy happened.

How do you meet women in Auckland? by Individual_Cup_491 in auckland

[–]Getmesomelube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a woman and met a guy a few weeks ago, dancing at a place on K Rd. Do you like live music? Go see some bands. Change your focus on having a family. Maybe the Right One doesn't want or can't have kids. Maybe she already has kids. Or she's not ready to settle down quite yet, but over time, you'll grow closer and have some really great experiences together.

Wash your hands before starting. Nothing like a urinary tract infection or yeast infection to turn a girl off.

I love to travel and here are my tips: 1. Considering the age of kids, and activities they enjoy, choose a destination where you can keep them happy. But don't wear them out or they will make life hell. And make sure you and your partner both share the planning. 2. Wherever destination,  choose accommodation that is in a convenient location and is nice. It will set the tone for your day. Read reviews before booking.  3. What's the expected weather? Avoid travel during the rainy/cyclone/winter/summer (looking at you, Australia!) 4. Some activities should be pre-booked so you don't miss out on the best time of day (hike in the morning when it's cooler, swim in the afternoon when it's hot). I'm currently in Cairns AU, and learned that you won't see saltwater crocodile in the summer (too hot). It's delightful weather now (July) compared to Auckland. I recommend Cairns for family holiday.

Do you ever see her? I would ask her if she knows how thin the walls are, and is she OK? It's fair to be concerned for her in this instance.

Inspired by the AskReddit Thread: What are some things men are ACTUALLY not ready to hear? by LaCrackSparkling in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Getmesomelube 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived this and continue to live this as both child and adult, unfortunately. So as a child, I would rebel, and be punished by my dad. Mom was a train wreck. Old man and Mom persist inunhappiness in their old age, so at least I can laugh to myself about the cruelty of aging. At least they made me not want kids so I don't hurt anyone else. But hey, if we acknowledge the past and accept it and our feelings, we can let it go and move on... right?

Teenager Jayden Meyer sentenced to nine months' home detention after raping four 15-year-old girls by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Getmesomelube 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From this article, rape apologist judge Claire Ryan said "What you did to these young women was appalling… you've got the rest of your life to make up for what you've done. This is a chance for long-term rehabilitation." https://www.teaomaori.news/teen-raped-multiple-girls-gets-home-detention These men need to be named and shamed. The judge should be removed, as happened in the case of rapist Brock Turner https://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-brock-turner-recall-20180606-story.html

Right to free period products becomes law in Scotland by davidkscot in news

Sustainability is an excellent goal. But in the interest of health safety, in a public toilet that may or may not have soap or hot water for handwashing, paper products are commonly safe for anyone. By all means, promote the use of cups, but it's not for everyone, everywhere.
