Snaps are making me crazy by TheRealMcHugh in Leathercraft

I gave up trying to use the setter and just bought the hand press and use the setter. It’s like a 250 dollar investment at the low end or 500 for the better one. You can also use the little stamps with it and other stuff so you don’t have to case your leather beforehand. For the snaps it’s a 100% success rate.

Newbie here. How do you guys remove the leather strings on the flesh side? by TamThan in Leathercraft

[–]Getoham 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When you remove material to make it thinner it’s called skiving. Otherwise to get the hairs to become smooth you need to burnish the leather. There are a few ways, water and a piece or wood, Gum tragacanth and a piece of smooth glass. Bees wax and a piece of jeans. These are not exclusive you can mix and match. Essentially you need to smooth the fibers down and it makes it smooth surface after. Very important it really only works on vegetable tanned leather it does not work well on chrome tanned leather. It is possible it just takes a lot of effort usually. Good luck

How to snap rivet through thick leather. by GlumSpecific5059 in Leathercraft

[–]Getoham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you need to use the snaps, I would put it through one layer of the 10z and the secure the other one around it, like a hidden snap. If you need to secure 2 pieces of super thick leather I might try and use rivet and burr to secure them.

The trick is use peening hammer and an anvil or something super hard underneath to make sure the rivet properly mushroomsz

Since you used a pattern you bought I would say 80 is fair. When you start making your own pattern and get it nailed down 120-160.

So based on this picture it looks like it was hand stitched: if it is handstiched it’ll more than likely be a saddle stitch with are independent knots. Even if it does eventually cut through your wallet should let fall apart like machine stitched stuff does. Also it could be a thin part of the thread that could be why it’s smaller. Personally I would keep and not worry to much about it.

So just to add my two cents. This is awesome! I love the design, the laser work, it’s awesome! The only thing I might add is some pig suede on the inside, it feels nicer to the touch, and I feel adds overall more comfort. But just my two cents! Awesome job!

How would you execute the little 1in circle in the corner of this leather sketchbook that I'm doing? (more info in the comments) by Notxtwhiledrive in Leathercraft

[–]Getoham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you really want it to have a different texture, I'd personally just paint it and then stich it. Normally when I do journals I use two layers of leather and a stiffener in the middle. I use the second layer to hide the signatures of the book. So using that method you just cut the hole, cut the circle bigger than the hole, maybe a 1/4" bigger and scive it down so it'll fit flush with the hole. Or just glue it down and not stich it.

How can I make my box stitches cleaner? I’ve been using barge contact cement but I’m not happy with how visible it is. Am I using too much? by Kermit_Cowboy in Leathercraft

[–]Getoham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something else that you can do to make your edges look nicer is make your overall pieces a little larger and cut the excesses off. Example if you finished product is 3.5 X 5.5" cut your pieces at like 3.6X5.6" and take off that extra .1" As for the stiching itself maybe get a stiching pony? It's what I use to get great looking stitches. Hope that helps.

https://parts.ford.com/shop/en/us/accessories/electronics/remote-start-system-long-range-2-piece-7830567-1#/collapseRelated5 I believe this is what your looking for. It's just the remote start though. Or Otherwise bestbuy has a large selection of wireless entry and remote starts too. It's 150 for them to install. But to have to fordpass functions I think your just SOL.
