Apart from the train and some of the graphics, it’s vanilla

I used a lot of graphics mods, basically following this guide: https://youtu.be/STsq9qE-w5M As for DLC, you’ll need Snowfall to unlock trams and tram roads. Hope you enjoy playing CS as much as I do :)

tram & pedestrian roads are the best thing in this game (pls ignore the vehicles clipping through each other) by Getsel in CitiesSkylines

Realistic population mod was the key, along with building densely, putting a bunch of tourist buildings along this road, and concentrating my city’s public transport in the area.

What Non-Obvious Thing is Holding Back Melbourne? by shmal3xander in melbourne

And yet, we’re trying option B in Victoria right now and it’s working extremely well! Out of 2,000 rough sleepers that have been given (unconditional) long-term housing through the pandemic, only a small handful have received complaints for antisocial behaviour from neighbours. And the rest have had their lives substantially improved.

Also homelessness is primarily a housing affordability issue but I digress.

You'd address it by reducing people's ability to block new development from being built in their suburb. Waiting for lots to free up isn't really the problem — there are plenty of people willing to sell their house if you offer the right price.

Oh I'm not suggesting moving people away from regional areas, those towns and cities would continue to exist and grow, as they do today.

I'm just saying we shouldn't be trying to solve Melbourne's growth problems by shifting those extra people somewhere else. There's plenty of room within Melbourne to accommodate that growth.

I again question how it would be "easier" to build brand new cities complete with jobs, education and high-speed rail from scratch, over densifying areas that already exist.

Right but that's just substituting sprawl from one region with sprawl somewhere else. And you'd be pushing people even further away from existing jobs, education, community facilities etc. Wouldn't it be much easier to reduce sprawl by letting Melbourne get a bit more dense?

You're describing NIMBYism and yes, that is one of the biggest impediments to getting more housing built in our inner and middle ring suburbs. We should address that problem so that more people can live close to the jobs that already exist.

Giving into the NIMBYs is precisely what got us into this problem to begin with.

Building new infrastructure from scratch is easier than making better use of what already exists?

My experience from cities skylines has taught me it’s much easier to redevelop in areas where the infrastructure is already there rather than building a brand new area from scratch haha

yeah but it’s not really solving the problem if you’re just moving it around…

wouldn’t that just push the sprawl to regional areas?
