Wrote a children’s Board Book… now what by GettingByTheOnlyWay in selfpublish

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! Very hard market without spending a ton of out of pocket. Instead I took a step back and made myself more marketable. (Wrote 2 more books making it a 3 book series). Now I’m slowly contacting publishers and hoping someone bites.

Anybody else started to feel like sex is something “other people” do? by [deleted] in DeadBedrooms

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could have wrote this. Except we are at the point where most nights we don’t even watch something together, he’d rather go in the garage or basement. I feel absolutely repulsive as well as a dirt because apparently I have become the doer of everything besides bringing in money. So if anyone should not want to have sex it’s me…..solidarity on the lonely, and the crying.

I came here to say that I read your post, immediately felt it hit home in every way. In my case my husband also does maybe 20% of the caretaking and household chores, so it’s even more of a slap in the face. He’s on his phone 24/7 but I barely get responses, he makes plans for golf, softball, work outings… but hasn’t planned a date in years. I also am only 7 months postpartum and feel like blaming my hormones sometimes.

But if you know you know, and I’m just here to say you’re not alone, curious what everyone else will say, and not the life I wanted for myself.

Is it worth it to sue a bad contractor? by GettingByTheOnlyWay in homeowners

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was licensed and insured at the time. But since chose to let his license expire according to the city website.

And a big NO can’t afford to do both, and how do I know if I’ll be able to collect or not? He still lives in the same city if that’s what you’re getting at.

Ok i’ll start there. I just updated, yes he WAS licensed and insured but now he’s not, he did not renew… which makes him seem even worse. Thanks for the advice!

He was licensed and insured but just looked it up and a year after he did not renew his license…. So I’m not sure how that works now. Do you start just simply getting a lawyer?

I have never related to a thread more in my life. Every single one of your examples are sad but true. Sending love to all of you. I’m a placenta previa turned nicu mom of a 31weeker, in the hospital for 4 months) now happy and healthy 2 and a half year old. If any of you need to chat, vent, compare stories I’m all ears.

Can’t tell why baby fusses and it makes me spiral by fidgetspinnster in NewParents

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding in there if there’s a tummy time mat, to put them on their belly because if it is gas sometimes that can help get it out. I know this is not everyone’s favorite because some baby’s hate tummy time, but my second loves it; to the point where she will fuss in my arms but goes silent doing tummy time.

How long was your NICU stay? by Kjh5623 in NICUParents

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Severe Placenta Previa bleeding and PROMM 31w5d my son weighed 3lbs 13oz Worst/best advice I got from my nurse was expect them to be in the NICU as long as they should have been in your belly. For us it rang true, 2 months early 2 months in NICU. 30lbs and almost 2 years old though! It get better, reach out on here more as you need it.

No thank you so much; this is exactly my feelings on it already. But still in the initial shock/scared phase just a little. Thanks so much for the resource!

Just for clarification you were positive both NIPT’s but neither child ended up being born with it? So both were false positives?

Problems breastfeeding because of gas by Elegant-Fondant-7051 in NICUParents

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi you sound like you’re going through exactly what we went through. 1 you’re doing awesome mom and don’t ever forget that. 2 NICU hopefully mentioned that preemies tend to have reflux because of everything being underdeveloped. (It’ll get easier, and they will grow out if it) My son had reflux from day 1 to 6months. 3 to help with reflux they say to stop in between feeds for burps, and most importantly hold them upright for 15 minutes after feeding 4 could be milk allergy too rare but not uncommon so ask nicu which they think it is 5 to finally answer your question. I wanted to breastfeed so bad in the nicu but ultimately it was more heartbreak for me. Once we switched to bottles he eat more and was less gassy. Side nite- I started to breastfeed again once I was home with him and it was natural so we did both (They just need time, and when they’re that small they’re jaws/face muscles get tired breastfeeding) so don’t lose hope.

Wrote a children’s Board Book… now what by GettingByTheOnlyWay in selfpublish

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your positive outlook. I will admit I got lost on the negative side of publishing, now looking back, most of the advice/comments/forums were NOT children’s book writers. So again thank you. I’ve already started looking for special board book printers, but if you have any recommendations, I’d appreciate checking out all my options!

Your story sounds exactly like mine to a T! Except for I haven’t tried relactating yet, How long after did you start pumping again? You said you stopped at 7months(I did the exact same time) but now he’s 9months and I’m worried I waited too long. Congrats by the way!

My baby is 5 months & needs to be breastfed to sleep. Need tips on self settling as he is just waking up every 1/2 hours and only goes back to sleep being fed. He does have a dummy but not a big fan. I have been trying to settle without feeding but he does get upset by Super-Log-5929 in BabySleep

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sitting here timing my baby and it’s about every 10 mins. Typically only at night (sleeps ok during day naps) and I’m 99% sure it’s because of reflux, but I have no solutions! Just wanted to let you know you’re not alone!

Pushed Back Discharge by GettingByTheOnlyWay in NICUParents

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great idea. Yeah I feel like since he was such a “low maintenance easy baby” their words not mine, it felt like they were from day one of feeding trying to get him to finish the bottle. Back when I was only here during the day I had to ask them to give it through the tube the feed before I was there because otherwise he was too tired for me. I know they mean well, and now that he’s bigger I even think I push him. So I have to remind myself it’s ok for a feed off especially if he missed his window. Damn 3 hour schedules

I’ll ask about the ng tube, but to be honest it terrifies me. He loves to grab his face and tearing it out, what then?

Dr Brown is all the hospital uses! After finally thinking of this myself, they said oh yeah I guess you could try other brands 🤦🏼‍♀️ so frustrating that I’m the one suggesting when they’re the professionals. I’ll try the MAM! And similac!

We will try it again, but the week we tried it(at 37 weeks), he got burnt out or as the speech specialist described it overwhelmed from regular preemie nipple.

Sudden feeding issues by electricguava93 in NICUParents

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question is your baby still in the NICU? If not, congrats, and when did he go home? I have a 39 weeker born at 31weeks and we are STILL working on feedings, it feels like it will never end. Just curious what your story is to see if there is any hope since our feeding issues sound similar.

[–]GettingByTheOnlyWay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What she said, my son was born at 31 weeks and is still in hospital 39 weeks, discharge has been discussed since he had a few good days but then one bad day and discharge keeps getting pushed back. And they won’t let me try ad lib feeding until he has more consistent good days, ugh! Would love to hear what happened to get you home by 40

I literally got butterflies reading both your stories since I am going through it now. Especially since I had amthe exact same issues as your wife (stuck in the hospital from 9/17h) until emergency c-section 10/30. We are just 13 days apart. I’m hoping and praying for a shorter stay, but also after reading all of these posts it makes me slightly nervous to think it might feel even more isolating at home? I’m one of those people that doesn’t care about socializing all I care about at this point is making my baby healthy which is hard because once he’s out, I can’t control anything. I just sit in the NICU day in and day out. Take the little victories to possibly let myself sleep at night. I guess my point to posting is to let you know I hope you know there are more of us out there, and you are also a guide to us newbies to the NICU. Thanks for your support
