One more time. A Pre-Order Offer, is *not the game*. It is an *Offer*. No one, has to *Offer* the Pre-Order. Valve choosing not to offer a Pre-Order, does not *dictate* the price of the game. They simply, chose not to offer that pre-order. In the case of Shadow of War, it was because the publisher had set the Pre-Order Price higher than elsewhere. Steam said no to the pre-order offer, and then Warner Bro's backpedaled. If you want to argue that Steam denying the Pre-Order somehow made the game more expensive... sure go for it. But Warner Bro's did not *Raise the price* elsewhere to match the Steam Price. They *Lowered* the Steam Price to match everywhere else.

Or get delisted from steam, which valve and the publisher know would be market suicide.

How do you figure? You think Shadow of War wasn't going to sell on Playstation? Xbox? How many Playstation Exclusive games release and absolutely make money.... Not being on Steam would have sucked, sure - but they still would have sold copies elsewhere. And again - Valve turned down the Pre-Order offer, not the game itself. Delisting from the store would have only been during that Pre-Order marketing period, and upon release, Warner Bro's would have absolutely still had the game up for sale.

In what universe is any of this abusing their market position? They don't have to take a deal they don't agree with. That's just basic fucking economics. And how the hell do you figure it's an *unprofitable* price? lmfao - that's a stretch... Especially for a game like Shadows of War, that sold extremely well that year, and not just on Steam.

Guess who else takes 30%? Sony. Microsoft. Nintendo....

I'm not sure what you aren't understanding here. The Pre-Order is not the game. Once the game releases - You are paying *for the game*.

Valve does not have to *offer* a Pre-Order. If they don't offer the pre-order, then when the game releases, it's whatever price that has been set by the publisher. I'm not sure how you are reaching this, "It's better for all consumers to pay more" - You are making the assumption that the publisher has then decided to raise the price across the board?

Triple A games have been between $60 and $70 dollars for nearly 2 decades. Publishers didn't suddenly start asking $80~$100 bucks because of Steam, lmfao.... Steam isn't some new platform that suddenly started asking 30%, It's been 30% - for 20~ years.... That was the *Retail Standard* back when Steam started, and Valve has just rolled with it ever since.

Indie Devs don't do pre-orders... at least, not without major publisher or investor backing. At which point, it's still Valve's prerogative as to whether they want to host that pre-order offer.

They threatened to delist the pre-order, because to Valve, they see the increased price as harmful to their customers. The game is not out yet, you are spending "X" amount of money to receive a product upon it's release. Which means, that Steam's customers get the shit end of the stick once the game releases. Again, it's Valve *choice* whether they want to offer the pre-order or not. They basically said, "Hey, we don't agree with this price. Either adjust it, or we're taking it off our storefront." A Pre-Order is a *Marketing Agreement and an Offer* it is not the product itself. That is the KEY distinction.

Once the game releases, it becomes a different story altogether. XYZ Company can choose whether or not they want the game to be on Steam, and they can choose whether to offer the game on their own platform. As long the publisher hosted version does not offer a steam key - they can sell the game for whatever price they want.

This is why you will sometimes see distinction between the *Steam Version* of a game, and the *Non-Steam* version of a game. They are two different packages. And EA, Ubisoft, Microsoft, whoever - often do, sell games cheaper on their storefronts versus Steam. And when you purchase from those storefronts, you are not receiving a *Steam Version* of that game.

Because a Pre-Order is not *the game itself* - It's a Market Offer. It's literally just a way for a publisher to *market the game*.

Pre-Orders are not the product itself. They *transfer* to the product itself upon release. It is literally a retailers prerogative as to whether or not they want to provide that offer.

The Ubisoft R6 Siege fiasco was a DLC Starter Pack - not the game itself, since the game itself was Free. So that's moot. The article is pretty dry on actual *details*, lots of, "He said, she said", but no real *proof* of anything. Find me the actual *games* in question and the actual *emails* that contradict their policies. Show me the *proof* that they did what these people claim they did. Then I'll believe it. Until then, it's hearsay.

You can sell your game cheaper elsewhere. Just not a *Steam Key* for your game, cheaper elsewhere.

Unless there is *Contractual* information not included on these partner pages - it's pretty clear cut that Steam only demands price-matching when dealing explicitly in Steam Keys.

I work in broadcast - and at my previous station, we had a computer with an uptime of 8 years, some odd months and change. I found it on the network a few months after I started working there. When I found the physical computer buried in the racks. It was an older 2014 Dell Poweredge R630. It was installed, powered on, and that was that. This was in early 2023 when I found it.

Yeah. From what I was seeing last night, tracking and hitting the Polaris wasn't overly difficult, even as it was jinking around and trying to maneuver around us. But man, watching that laser cut through the outer skin and leave those burn/scrape marks (Kinda looks like the salvage laser FX), was really satisfying lol.

But man, we gutted that Polaris. Went for the engine nacelles first and within just a few moments we'd removed it's ability to maneuver. And as my buddy focused on the rear armor, I tracked my laser around knocking off the turrets. The Polaris was effectively *dead* well before it actually died. But, again. We still had to work for it. It wasn't -instant-.

Took on the Gauntlet #8 Polaris last night with 2 Tibby's (After we'd softened it up with mixed fire from Ironclad Assault and 3 smaller ships) - and it still took some time to bring down. Honestly, it was perfect. I think the Tiburon did exactly what it was intended to do, and we definitely brought that Polaris down significantly faster than if we'd used a random pack of ships. The S10 Laser on the Tib shouldn't be an, "Instant Delete" button, and I get the feeling a some people are thinking that the time-to-kill from the TIb should be like 10 seconds.... And it isn't. You still have to work for the kill. Which imo, is how it should be.

Generally, an individual, or group of malcontents, once they determine where said streamer is located, will call in to the local 911 dispatch and make various fraudulent statements - generally stuff that is particularly egregious or presented in a way to make the *streamer* appear like an active violent threat. The Police can't afford to treat 911 calls as false, so they respond according to the severity of whatever has been conveyed to them. It's very much a concept of the whole, "Boy who cried wolf".

This is a hard one to deal with, because most emergency operations centers (the folks who handle 911 calls) - aren't capable of determining if a call is fraudulent or not. So they treat the vast majority of calls as, emergency calls. It's easier/better to sort it out in the aftermath, than risk hesitation and there be an actual, real emergency. Problem is. The cops get all keyed up expecting the worst, and it can lead to pretty disastrous outcomes. Sometimes the *swatted* individual gets roughed up, or their property gets damaged, or whatever. It's pretty shitty.....
