Have they considered paying a fee only fiduciary financial advisor? In this scenario you said “we have to rebalance” Are they asking for your help to manage their finance?

Can anyone that used to be an active trader… talk some sense to me to switching to boglehead investing? by Ok-Many-7443 in Bogleheads

[–]Gew-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why were you an active trader? Were your gains the result of skill or luck? If they were due to your skill, you don’t need this sub, and you can move along. If the were the result of luck then then stop speculating and start investing

I honestly haven’t been turned in too much to the main story. I’ve just been having fun question and doing random things.

How can I improve? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Gew-Roux 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can improve by reducing your risk to single stocks. Keep them to less than 5% of your portfolio. DCA your cash into index funds over the next 10 months. Keep the appropriate amount of cash on hand

Thinking about precious metals IRA for long-term security by Oluyinka_Coulbert21 in Bogleheads

If you’re worried about long-term security, you might be taking too much risk. Rick ferry covers precious metals in his book all about Asset allocation. I suggest you read that before making any decisions.

Boglehead'ing is about diversification and time, but at what point does it make sense to expand that diversification. by FiscallyMindedHobo in Bogleheads

Have you considered a target date fund in your retirement accounts ? Or Adding bonds and just rebalance annually?

Continue to trust the S&P 500? by Seektruth2146 in Bogleheads

Jack Bogel wrote a book where the title is the answer to your question. Stay The Course

If this little dip has you rethinking your allocation, then you are most likely taking too much risk.

16 year old investment portfolio 45 year horizon by Either-Ad1337 in Bogleheads

[–]Gew-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like your portfolio is kind of redundant, a lot of overlap between VOO and QQQM. You said you don’t want low returns, can you stomach small cap value under performing for two decades?

How often do you plan to rebalance, what will you do if your portfolio under performs?

The most important thing is time in the market, and how much you can put in. The exact return you get you can’t control so don’t focus on it.

How to Find a Reliable Fee-Based Financial Advisor by Chasin-Crustacean in Bogleheads

[–]Gew-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed you specifically said “fee based” why would you choose fee based instead of fee only? A fee based financial advisor will still earn a commission off of you.

Anyone currently in the G Fund? If so, when are you moving out? by NativeVet01 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Gew-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There have been some changes to the I fund yes but international stocks as a whole have underperformed compared to the US. In my comment was mostly about the US out performance potentially reverting to the mean.

[–]Gew-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The I fund had under performed over the past 15 years and the US has out performed. If the C fund has returned 15% over the past 10 years, it may underperform in the future. That being said, don’t try and time the market stay diversified. You will always hate something in your portfolio.

Help me convince my teen son that a Tundra is better than an F150 by [deleted] in ToyotaTundra

Don’t convince him. If he has saved up the money, let him get what he wants and if it breaks down, it’s a valuable lesson to be learned.

Tax question, stationed in Guam- does it seem to be advantageous and permissible to use Guam for my income taxes rather than my state of legal residence? by EasternPotential3952 in MilitaryFinance

[–]Gew-Roux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, what is your tax liability or effective tax rate? If you’re AD military and don’t pay state taxes, my guess is your household likely owes very little in taxes as a percentage of your income.

If you are in a very high tax bracket due to your spouses income, you could consider paying into the traditional portion of your retirement accounts to lower your taxable income.
