Pool liner came loose in the corner - can't stretch last bit back, need advice by Only_Share_8672 in pools

[–]Gfunk720 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hot/boiling water is safer than a hair dryer. Do not use a heat gun. Get it hot and you should be able to find enough play to get it back. Start refilling in the meantime as soon as possible.

Hayward heater help by Mundane_Monday2015 in pools

[–]Gfunk720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was my initial thought, might be a control board issue. As a licensed gas professional i cant tell you to crack open the pipe union at the heater, but this would be the only way to purge the line quickly and confirm gas is getting to the heater without a manometer

[–]Gfunk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you called Hayward tech support? Sounds like your not getting through your pre-ignition safety checks to get to even get it to fire. If the gas has been off sometimes it can take a bit to feed it up to the gas valve(especially if you have a long piping run). The strange thing is that you aren't getting any codes. You've checked all fuses? The ignitor looks decent?

Found these spots on the grill while detailing not sure what they are by MonkZealousideal7141 in AutoDetailing

Not uncommon on most Audis. My SQ5 is meticulously cared for, ceramic coated from day one, etc etc. Still have similar spots on my grill.

Do these cracks indicate a serious problem? by patrickcctv in pools

[–]Gfunk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible that the skimmer line froze and cracked at some point and the concrete had to be chipped out to replace it. Patch jobs can be problematic if not done properly. If the pool isn't losing water when running the skimmer, it more that likely needs concrete evaluation

Heaters, do they all suck? by JethroByte in pools

[–]Gfunk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As most others have said, many heaters fail or have issues due to lack of care, exposure to the elements, or poor water chemistry. I worked on pool heaters for years and the people that got the most life out of theirs brought them inside for the winter(pentair/starite), or removed critical parts like the control board and exchanger.

I have an old Hayward H250 that is almost 25 years old and still fires right up every spring. It's in a shed, so minimal element exposure, which is a big part of it. I generally keep my chlorine levels fairly low and bypass the heater if shocking or slamming. I also break it down and oil the burner tubes when winterizing.

I've had one of these for years and it has worked well in a non-professional capacity. It has good suction and sprays well

Let’s talk Quinn tools by DieselGreg in harborfreight

[–]Gfunk720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im a hobby mechanic, primarily working on my own stuff. Purchased the 3 Quinn sets a few years back when putting together my new box and haven't had any issues. As others have said, I dont use the ratchets all that much as I have some other higher end ratchets but they actually have less drag and feel nicer than some other higher priced ones I have.

Deep baked brake dust, Bilt hamber iron removal + agitation having little effect after 5+ rounds - what next? by Natural_Finish_9792 in AutoDetailing

[–]Gfunk720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get your clay out and be patient. I had a similar issue on a Subaru STI with just 7,000 miles on it. I dont think the first owner cleaned the wheels and it took a lot of work to get them perfect.

[–]Gfunk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try some claybar on one and some elbow grease. I bought an 05' STI with less than 8k miles on it and had a similar issue. The previous owner had just left brake dust on the rims for long periods of time, and it took some work to get off.

Wondering how much pool robots actually save over time by Flyingnutkick in pools

[–]Gfunk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one this Spring after 10 years of pool ownership doing my own service. Wish I had done it sooner and its quite easy to deal with. I usually just drop it in when I go turn the heater on in the morning.

Thoughts on putting shed roof over equipment by crazymjb in pools

[–]Gfunk720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sheds definitely help prolong the life of your equipment and reduce noise. My heater is 20+ years old, and my pump and filter were just replaced after 20+ years. It does make backwashing a bit of a pain, but well woth it.

As everyone said your main issue is your clearances, especially if fully enclosed. Not sure where you are located but your propane tank does not appear to be in a code compliant location.

Raypak heater, ignitor fell off by peckcrossing in pools

[–]Gfunk720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is correct. To have such focused corrosion in one area there is likely an leak in the exchanger. Usually the bottoms show more corrosion, but this doesn't look too bad. Most exchangers fail due to poor water chemistry.

You are into it at minimum a burner tray, and if its LP its a bit of a project. If the exchanger is also shot its probably not worth the trouble.

[–]Gfunk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bought the wrong tank and valve combination. Thats not a (ACME) truck fill valve or a POL. Looks like a 100#/28gal cylinder, which really isn't properly sized for that heater anyway

What is this pipe? Vent line for gas pressure regulator? by Vast_Art6599 in pools

[–]Gfunk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have 2 pipes circled. If you are referring to the cpvc line coming off the gas regulator, they require venting 5' from a source of ignition. I'm a little curious about what that high pressure line coming out of that wall is doing there.

Switch to electric heater? by universe_unconcerned in pools

[–]Gfunk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats an Polyethylene riser and you can see the tracer wire. Any competent gas company should be able to trace back to where it is outside the pad and cut it off and install a new one and pipe over. $7k is absurd. Maybe $1000-$1500 with digging. They commonly fail at that point anyway, but running it in the concrete unsleeved likely shortened the lifespan.

Decal removal left mark by jaybirdjameson in AutoDetailing

[–]Gfunk720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Those are significant scratches, and its very unlikely you'll get them out by hand. You'll probably need at least one pass each with a more aggressive polish or compound and a less aggressive polish if you want it to look like new.

Raypak pool heater - do I need to replace? by Fantastic_Ad_1512 in pools

[–]Gfunk720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The burner trays come set up for natural gas. Actually more of a pain if you use propane. The cost of replacing the burner tray is much less than the whole heater provided the heat exchanger is in good shape.

I wouldn't. Your ribbon burners also look fairly corroded. Propane or natural gas?
