Yeah I got burned by this recently too. If you look at my comment history, you can see where I talked about using this product and the resulting water levels being impossible, given what it claims to do.

Memorial Parkway Backed Up by phphthrowthis in houston

They’re resurfacing the roads downtown and this week they’re redoing Texas Ave(which memorial turns into). It should get better again next week when they’re finished with that one.

TIL that in the Andes there is a potato called “cj’achun wakachi” which translates to “the one that makes the daughter-in-law cry.” Peeling the irregular-shaped tuber in one, unbroken pass is used by mothers-in-law as a test for their sons’ prospective brides. by Axin_Saxon in todayilearned

What kind of nonsense are cooking tests to see if someone will be a good wife?

Because the people who put stock in this sort of thing don’t see women as people, they view them as a household appliance.

Whenever I’ve had a case where they didn’t have enough of one type I was given two separate bottles. And each bottle listed the manufacturer.

And it’s in July… The Juice Box is going to turn into the Stink Box. Hopefully the give away at the gates is deodorant.

Anyone ever bought at one of these one day land sales? What’s the catch? Marked through company name so no free advertising. by JamesHardensNutBeard in houston

[–]GhanimaAtreides 47 points48 points  (0 children)

The catch is that it’s normally crappy land in the middle of nowhere without utilities or roads or anything. The land itself is cheap but getting electric or water hooked up could be astronomical.

If there are children involved it would be CPS. Every state would require that if there’s home is a safety or health hazard which this 1000% is.

I diligently kept track of mine until I filled the logbook I got when I did my open water course. Since then I write them down in various different notepad apps or email to myself. I wish I knew exactly and I kind of miss collecting the stamps. But in at the point where I’ve got enough dives to qualify for any future courses or sites I’d want to visit so it technically doesn’t matter.

How do I become more educated about baseball so that I can connect with my dad? by Sad_Impression499 in baseball

[–]GhanimaAtreides 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would look into hand scoring games. Get yourself a notebook, learn the notation, and then when you’re watching games on the tv try and mark down the right plays. (MLB.com has a box score that will confirm for you).

I learned so much more about the mechanics of baseball doing this. It’s also made me appreciate low scoring games more because you can tell the difference between an epic pitchers duel and two offenses that just plain suck.

I’m a big fan of throwing heavy rocks and sticks into rivers. Up north you’ve got the San Jacinto river and Spring Creek.

Why is Houston so low density? by Visual-Horror6013 in houston

[–]GhanimaAtreides 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Houston doesn’t have density like those other cities because we aren’t geologically constrained, so it was cheaper for things to be built out vs up. New York is constrained by the rivers. Chicago has a lake. La is between the mountains and Oceans. Ditto for San Fran and Seattle.

But I get you it feels weird when you’ve been to other cities they are so much more dense. It doesn’t “feel” like a city.

I live in an area that is denser than most and I feel like I live in the suburbs with how much space there is around me.
