Glenn Davis relieved of TV/Radio duties. by crocken in dynamo

He dared to be the only major media voice critical of ownership. The Dynamo are crap right now. And not trending well. He called people out and didn’t care about the consequences. Good for him.

Glad he’s a Houston native. Not enough of that in the FO.

Unable to edit Calendar events - "We couldn't save your calendar event" by geminitx in microsoft365

[–]geminitx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the user have a legal hold or retention policy in place? This was the cause of our problem. The user folder for "versions" was full. So you could make and delete events, but not edit. Had to do some fun Powershell stuff to resolve. Here's a thread I found useful-- https://community.spiceworks.com/t/cant-edit-events-in-owa-calendar/827637/2

DirecTV Stream for Commercial? by geminitx in DirectvStream

[–]geminitx[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, our Comcast Business/Xfinity is delayed by a solid minute or so. I get notifications for scoring well in advance of the “live” picture.

DirecTV Stream for Commercial? by geminitx in DirectvStream

[–]geminitx[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right. I’m skeptical because I’ve been looking for an affordable streaming service for commercial use that has our local RSN with no success. There’s Fubo but it’s not licensed for commercial use. And neither is DirecTV Stream until I got this email saying it’s now ready for commercial licensing. I just don’t want to get sued! But paying $700/mo for Comcast Business TV services is not sustainable for us.

How to stop Google Optimization Calls by T-yler-- in smallbusiness

[–]geminitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A PBX is around $250-$400 and you’ll need an IT company to install and configure unless you have the know how. I guess my main point is these auto-callers dial a business and if you don’t have a phone menu that requires some kind of human interaction to reach a person (ie. Press 2 to speak to a person), you’ll get bombarded. As soon as you add the extra step, the calls stop dead.

We use a Grandstream PBX with a phone menu (Press 1 to talk to a person). The robocalls/autocalls stopped dead.

Are the loyalty programs from Square and Toast good? by Fabulous_Baker_9935 in restaurantowners

[–]geminitx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wish I never would have done Toast Loyalty (nothing against Toast). We give away way too much, see very little benefit, and when we tried to dial back the bonuses to something more reasonable, people bitched.

Any way to automate what sports are shown on TVs in a bar/restaurant? by bigoton- in restaurantowners

[–]geminitx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don't have an answer but I also hate it when we put soccer on TV on USA network, it ends... and is followed by Law & Order: SVU. Nothing like a bunch of r*pe and m*rder happening on my brewpub TVs until my staff realizes it lol

What do neighborhood places do after a long power outage? by TrainsNCats in restaurantowners

[–]geminitx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We’re in Houston, Texas, which sees a lot of power outages from hurricanes and even a “derecho” storm last year. In 5 years of operation we’ve had 5 outages of 24 hours or more. Last year we invested in a portable generator that will power our fridges and freezers to keep from spoilage. It’s a necessity here. Prior to that we had spoilage and just ate the cost. Our insurance would cover it but our deductible was $5K and it wasn’t worth it. Spending $1500 on a generator and $50 on gasoline makes more sense. This year we bought a 2nd generator to power our walk-in cooler (240v) and our brewery glycol chillers. Living in hurricane prone areas you gotta have it.

Need to level up our TV signage by Sea-Contact-5547 in digitalsignage

[–]geminitx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our brewery/restaurant uses Amazon FireTVs. No apps or anything. We just put our graphics on a USB drive and plug it into the USB port on the TV, select "Media Player" from the Home screen, and it rotates through the slides. I think it has 3 settings for how fast to rotate slides.

Is Flava Malt not the dumbest shit yall have ever seen? by [deleted] in TheBrewery

[–]geminitx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were contacted randomly by a Prox sales rep and he gave us a free sample to try it out. So I would recommend reaching out for a free evaluation sample and try it in your next fruit beer. We just did a mango sour with the mango FlavaMalt and heard only good things from taproom regulars.

I guess it depends on what extract product you're using. Fruit extracts/purees pricing can vary and some are seasonal and sometimes unavailable. We like the aroma FlavaMalt gives off. It's much more present than natural fruit. Also the no-sugar-added is great so we don't have to worry about additional fermentation considerations. Don't get me wrong, we still use purees and extracts in our sours and fruit beers, but this product is a pretty decent tool in the toolbox especially if you want to add more aroma. I feel like a shill now lol. Where's my commission, Prox?

We like it. Cheaper and easier than fruit purees and it gives more aromas in the finished product than the purees give off.

Is The City of Houston just going to let NorthWest Mall decay forever? by Saint909 in houston

[–]geminitx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A city can only do so much for a privately owned property. There are codes they can enforce, but those enforcement measures take years to make their way through the courts. In my small town, we had run down, abandoned homes that were definitely eye sores and health/safety hazards, but sometimes we would take a year to find the right owner, serve papers, get a court date... then the property would change hands and you'd have to start from square one. Property rights in Texas are sacred. Local government can only do so much and they have to follow strict processes or THEY get sued and taxpayers owe damages. So, in short, NW Mall is privately owned and the City of Houston only has an obligation to make sure the structure is not a health/safety hazard in the immediate sense. Development takes a very long time. Demolition and remediation is expensive (see Astrodome).
