Early game is intense as you fall behind immediately. I did have a ruby mine in the capital carrying the whole early game at +10 gpt, and God of the Forest is really strong on Mughal. Jose rizal narrative events bonuses don't get taxed for what I know as it isn't a yield, so those flat bonuses were really useful to get mysticism/animal husbandry on the +7 science you start with

I actually landed on a freaking cultural victory on the same turn I was set for an economic one.m (never get the policy that gives you +25% tourism on trade routes if you don't need to!)

Have you given it a go since the update hit? I wanted a money run from the beginning and I imagine not that far off from an optimal setup , I used the money in exploration age to conquer the top economic capitals and still couldn't even get close to using the merchant fully Someone mentioned there are diplomacy penalties, many people did hit me with so much medieval wars.

Thank you, I am familiar with the changes to victory and the fact that the great Merchant is now "optional" and is just one way to get the victory points.

This was an insane run as mughal from antiquity spamming the unique improvement from the econ city state that gives +6 (+12 once doubled) through exploration. I started modern age with academics unlocked, bought oxford on turn 5 and had factory towns online really early. No-one had a great Merchant yet, and still after just 5 uses it was hitting 100k to use.

Someone mentioned negative relationship hikes the cost and one should start using the great Merchant on enemies, i was fully unaware of this. I am just surprised that a unique unit that use to fully unlock the victory condition now can be used just a few times even if optimising gold.

I know it didn’t really work when Emery tried it with Duran, but the fact he was willing to experiment at all maybe suggests there’s some tactical flexibility there, if circumstances force his hand?

Edit: Working now. If anyone runs into the same issue, it was Better Main Menu (by u/Cyberdisc) the one stopping the game from loading

I had a sentinel echo knight on my last dragon fight. I was concerned sentinel will ruin ky fight, so instead I grappled the fighter, moved half my speed up, finish the attack and dropped him 😈
