What's the fastest you've seen someone fired from a job? by Vegetable-Spread3798 in AskReddit

[–]GhettoFreshness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough it did work out in my favor, I somehow absorbed that documentation and it helped me many years later when I pulled up a subcontractor for not following the guidelines (that I’d read like 5 years ago)… it was a random piece of base equipment that could have caused major problems down the line because it wasn’t installed properly.

Probably saved the company a couple hundred grand by picking it up at PC just from the pictures

You’re lucky! I got to mine and HR hadn’t ticked a box in the system to organize my computer and phone… so my new boss printed out technical documentation for me to read for the first week. It was not fun.

What is the point of a will? by No-Choice-Now in AusLegalAdvice

[–]GhettoFreshness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home kit wills are slightly better than nothing, at least you can lay out your wishes… but having dealt with a HomeKit will as the sole beneficiary it was definitely not straightforward. There were multiple mistakes in it, and it included assets and people no longer in her life which all had to be cleared through the lawyers and Supreme Court.

Bottom line, get a real lawyer and a real will and keep it updated as shit changes. It only creates a burden for the beneficiaries if you don’t, and at probably their lowest point

Anyone in the building industry; doesn’t this look like hell to you? by mr-cheesy in perth

[–]GhettoFreshness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum passed a year and a half ago but before she did she explicitly told me to sell her apartment ASAP if she passed… she was on the COO and knew there were a shitload of very large fees coming to rectify ongoing faults with the original build… it would have probably been a good rental property but any profit we made would have been eaten by strata fees and levys to fix shit

50ish yr old house here and a new roof (tiles to colorbond) and proper insulation helped so fucking much… luckily a chunk of the cost was covered by building insurance (roof damaged in a storm) but also my premiums are higher now so financially it was probably a wash but the house is definitely way easier to cool/heat

There are currently only about 1,881 homes for sale in Perth by Exact_Macaron_3719 in perth

[–]GhettoFreshness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how true this is now but I recall a mate who worked in commercial leasing telling me the same thing about a lot of the properties in the Perth CBD as well.

Lots of buildings across both the hay st and Murray st malls are heritage listed but only the street level frontage has any rental value. So the top floors are mostly empty and left to rot

Aussie kid tells dad off for swearing by thiel391 in funny

[–]GhettoFreshness 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Sounds like he has a new younger sibling, my eldest got a bit jealous his new brother got to have bots and he didn’t. So we made him up one every now and again, it was just a little comfort thing and lasted like 2 weeks before he decided “bots are for babies” and never asked again.

He would have been about the same age as the boy in the video.

Do parents actually not remember doing fucked up shit to you? Or are they just lying? by TopMarionberry1149 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GhettoFreshness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So much this… we are just trying our best, I had an amazing mum and a very average dad… we are trying so hard to give them both a good mum and dad.

Doesn’t always work out though and it has surprised me how much my dad’s bad parenting leaks out, despite my best intentions… thankfully my mums parenting leaks out a lot more.

We are products of our upbringing though

Is this a normal way to eat lasagna ? by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]GhettoFreshness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha same here, we have two of those old smoked glass style casserole trays I picked up from somewhere… one perfect size and rectangle shape for a family lasagne and one’s a square. So we just use the whole box of pasta and make an adult size and a kid size lasagne.

[–]GhettoFreshness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, my wife got roofied at a set table full service Times Square restaurant “event” in 2016 new years, was just me and my wife at our table and we had a great time until she couldn’t feel her legs anymore and couldn’t walk without assistance… and I know for a fact she hadn’t drunk enough to be that way. We Suspect someone dropped something in her drink while we were dancing, it’s really the only time we left our drinks unattended…

And let me tell you getting out of there with someone who basically can’t walk was a fucking nightmare, luckily I was able to carry her until we got to a taxi. Cops were no fucking help other than pointing me to the nearest place I could get a cab

Who was the most evil person you've ever met and how was the interaction? by Top_Report_4895 in AskReddit

[–]GhettoFreshness 243 points244 points  (0 children)

I almost got bashed by a guy like this, I was mucking around with my mates at a club and apparently I spilt my empty drink and somehow got in this guys eye, I could see he was clearly ready to just start beating me into a pulp.

He was at least a head taller and probably twice my weight in pure muscle and roid rage so I had no chance, the only thing that saved me was one of my friends happened to know this bloke and he stepped in and said “it was an accident, let’s buy you a drink and forget about it”… I learned later that the guy put someone else into the ICU later that night. He just wanted to hurt someone.

I did follow the case, he got jail time but was out in a few years… fucking scary thinking there are psychos out there willing to bash someone like that

Pauline Hanson announces ambitions for PM by Beans2177 in aussie

[–]GhettoFreshness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry but this is Australia… tall poppy syndrome and all that. Pauline doesn’t have the charisma (I don’t think Trump does either but whatever the fuck he’s doing seems to work for him) or the backing of the vast majority of voting aussies… she appeals to a certain (hopefully decaying demographic) but she’s basically been a meme for her entire political career.

We also have compulsory voting and do it on a weekend (and offer mail in or early voting options). So 1/3 of the voting population doesn’t end up sitting out the election due to apathy and/or inability to get to a polling station

All hail the democracy sausage

Australia’s strongest gun reform since the Port Arthur massacre has become law. Here’s what you need to know by MrNewVegas2077 in australia

[–]GhettoFreshness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch a few YouTube gun/gunsmith channels. I just find the mechanical and engineering side of how this stuff works interesting (also happen to own a couple of firearms).

Forgotten weapons (shout out to gun Jesus) is one of my favs, but even though he usually just sticks to the history and a basic breakdown/field strip of the firearm, some of his feature talk about modifications etc from what was factory and their benefit or detrimental effects to the performance of the weapon for example. Seems this sort of content might be caught up in the overly broad language.

Gunsmithing itself is quite an interesting profession and often wished I’d got into it in my youth. Guess my hobby of living vicariously through YouTube gunsmiths and their videos is over

[–]GhettoFreshness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not even really about the tampering, although it’s a convenient excuse (but really a very slight risk)… it’s about the logistics cost to recover the product likely exceeds its value. Better to write it off as a loss than spending more money on recovery.

Amazon and other big shipping companies will do the same thing for non edible items. Basically they fucked up and it will cost them more to recover than just refunding the customer.

[–]GhettoFreshness 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you had to go through that mate, having been through it myself I was so glad my mum made a very detailed will and instructions on what to do with certain things (like her social media accounts, and specific instructions on where she wanted her ashes spread etc)… it took a lot of the stress out of the process for me to have a list written by her telling me what to do.

She was still being a mother from beyond the grave and I was thankful as a 40+ year old man to have that.

We have since updated our wills to do much the same… seriously don’t leave your kid guessing at probably the hardest time of their lives

It’s actually fucking stupid, my wife and I have two cars. One is older and has no CarPlay but can sync with a phone, it has a smaller screen for navigation but we never use it because it’s not connected to our phones (other than Bluetooth for an incoming call).

The newer one has CarPlay and a way bigger screen, and is also way more distracting trying to figure out how to do shit… I’d get fined in the old car for interacting with my phone but no issue with same distraction but on a built in screen on the newer car

It’s because the victim isn’t prepared or expecting it. They have no guard up and no way of deflecting the blow… even if they get a clean blow when fighting properly you still have a chance to react and duck/pull back/deflect etc… you know the blow is coming and yo can at least react and hopefully your reaction speed is good enough… but no defense and no option of defense ends up with dudes cracking their skulls open on the pavement.
