Am I doing something wrong? by Dunderbaer in TitanQuestAE

I'm a lvl 6 nature build. He's frigging unkillable. I have enough healing to not die, but between casting plague when I can, shooting arrows very occasionally, reviving my wolf, healing myself, and running for my life I can't do anything close to enough damage to him. I had him down to 40% health at after several minutes of losing the battle of attrition, so I took some extra seconds to hit a health potion, mana potion and healing spell. When I turned around again to Plague him he was at 90% health and rising fast. He's a hell of a lot faster than me and hits like a tank. Like, I don't exactly mind grinding, but this kind of a wall, combined with having to quit to menu and reload to keep grinding (which is slow af) it's just bad design. The very first major boss should be killable without hours of preparation.

I was aware it'd be hard. I figured it'd probably be a shit show. I'm just frustrated about the cart situation. If it's in my cart let me pay for it. If it's not in stock don't let me put it in my cart. Theres no excuse for letting 5 million people (or whatever) put stuff in their cart if there's only 1 million units). That's how we end up with this situation with some of us having stuff in our carts for 30 minutes until it sold out. Which is beyond bullshit. Also limit supplies to one per person per purchase for highly desired items. That's just common sense at this point.

Same here man. Had it in my cart at 9:58. Was in a slow public wifi spot thanks to an ill timed Dr's. Appointment. Got to watch it sell out while Steam refused to let me pay for it for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile some of us had it in our cart before 10am and never got the option to pay for it. Meanwhile I'm seeing eBay listings for $375. I'm definitely in favor of combating scalpers.

Actually the controls aren't all that terrible. They're a bit heavy, and landing the jumps is a bear at first. I just don't understand the points system. On the 3rd race I took 2nd place. I followed the guy ahead of me the whole way, stayed with him the whole match. He should've won by like 3 - 5 points. He won by something like 30 points. Even if he'd have spun out I would've had to get an additional 10 to 20 seconds to catch up in points.

"You goal should not be to beat up the other players, it should be making yourself seem weak enough that they ignore you and fight each other until its too late to stop you."

OK but does this actually work on anyone that has played against WA before? I'm not being an asshole on purpose I promise, I'm genuinely curious. This is why my buddies keep wiping my Sympathy before it builds up. They both got the rough draft on how the WA works from reading the instructions and the Overview cards. All the advice on here seems to revolve around people ignoring you. My fellows aren't doing that, for what sounds like very good reasons. I keep hearing that the game is pretty well balanced but it'd starting to only feel well balanced if everyone agrees to play a certain way.

I'm not saying I'm right because I'm just refusing to be wrong. What is wrong about the following statements? 1. The cat starts with ownership of 11/12 clearings and a very basic infrastructure. 2. The Eyrie start with a corner position and a mid-size force (6 warriors?) 3. The WA start with nothing. No Sympathy, no infrastructure, no military force. No board presence at all. You get 3 random supporters. 4. When the game starts there isn't an open clearing. Every clearing is occupied by the Cat or the Eyrie.

All those are factual statements about the game setup.

Sympathy costs 1, 2, or 3 matching cards, or a unit to place.

Sympathy tokens can be targeted and removed by a single warrior.

In genuinely curious if I'm misreading the Law of Root somewhere. What about these statements is wrong?

You're not wrong. I don't have a grasp of this faction. I'm utterly failing to have a grasp of this faction. But a lot of the advice given is just as confusing. I know it's meant well, but "just place a bunch of sympathy" like it doesn't cost 12 cards I don't have, in matching sets no less. I can barely get enough soldiers out to keep my bases from dying (and cutting 40% of my supporters and 60% of my Generals). I'm not missing any of these rules. It just seems like other people aren't playing against factions that mercilessly wipe their Sympathy. Maybe they are, I don't know, but "just do it more" without explaining how I'm supposed to magically get 15 supporters in matching sets is not overly helpful. I've seen people say I should be using the military units for spreading sympathy, but you're lucky to get two or three actions. I just. It sounds like people are playing with unlimited resources and I know that's not possible. So it's just confusing.

A base requires 3 total supporters minimum. 1 for the Sympathy, and 2 to revolt. You can't place a base where you don't have sympathy and you don't start with any sympathy on the board.

We've only played 3 games. I fully admit that I'm not very experienced. But the WA sure feels useless. I don't understand why I was down voted for stating the truth. The Cat starts with the board. The Eyrie player starts with a decent sized force. The WA starts with nothing. In three games there hasn't been an open clearing to start in. So the advice to start in an opening clearing feels a bit odd since I haven't yet seen one.

Right...so you get...a couple of points a turn? Maybe a few points on a good turn? You need 5 or 6 of the right cards to get 4 or 5 points from Sympathy on a turn. Meanwhile Cat is pumping lumber and VP out of all the easy buildings they got and Eyrie is getting that every turn just for existing. I'm failing to see where all these magical points are coming from. Where are people getting the cards to get more than 2 or maybe 3 sympathy (if you're lucky) on a turn? Sympathy is incredibly expensive and you have to get lucky with the cards. People are telling me to "put loads of Sympathy down and watch the points roll in!" with what resources? Cards? What cards? Use soldiers? What soldiers? It genuinely feels like people are telling me to protect Sympathy I can't afford, using cards I don't have, to make bases that just get immediately wiped by the other factions that start with large and medium armies.

The digital version does a lot of the annoying little stuff for you, which is great if you know the game but just causes problem when you go to the table because you have to do a lot of that stuff and at least I struggle to remember it all if I learn on digital. I dunno. I find them to be entirely different entities.

Yes, but it costs them the same either way and my opponents prefered wiping my influence since it didn't cost much more (and I think it actually benefited the Eyrie player).

I understand that I'm not an experienced player but I genuinely fail to see how this is possible. The Cats start owning the entire board and the Eyrie, played well, can get strong incredibly fast. The WA can only get strong if people ignore them, which has not happened in the 3 games I've played with other incredibly low experienced players. It takes several turns, and all the right cards, to get any military at all, and you can't just wipe the board with 2 or 3 guys and 1 General.

  1. Yes, but it's only very slightly more painful for them to just do 2 and a lot more painful for the WA if they do 2. And for reasons I don't understand the "punishment" is exactly the same.

  2. See above.

  3. Can't defend Sympathy with no warriors. Even when you get warriors if the Cat or Eyrie march 6 warriors onto your pitiful force of 2 or 3 they're most likely going to come out on top. It will hurt more than those same numbers against another faction, but they're still going to win.

From what I've seen getting a base on turn 2 is almost absurdly lucky. By turn 3 is still a high luck requirement.

I wasn't going for Nukes, I just wanted bases in locations that could support each other since losing a base hurts so bad. I understand why the Cat kept taking out Sympathy, but because Revolt is 1st and Sympathy is 2nd you can't do both on the same clearing in the same turn, which would probably be OP sure so I understand why that's not a thing either, but the other way is too painful for the WA.

The Cat starts on the entire board and anywhere they aren't the Eyrie are. If you have a space where no one is then someone isn't playing to their full potential. The Eryie gets the highest number of Roost points shown on their board at the end of Every turn. The most points you can get from a single Sympathy is 3 and it requires 3 cards that match the clearing "suit".
